Getting accused of murder! [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-05-04, 01:53 AM I play the party cleric. I got framed from a shape shifter who tagged along with my party while I was in a rope trick spell (staying safe from an assasination). The shapeshifter took my form and the dm tricked me into playing the shapeshifter unknowingly as myself, saying i came out of the rope trick and returned to my party.

I was told another party member was going to try and kill me and I had a chance to kill him first, so still playing as a shapeshifter not unaware that i was playing an npc i convinced the party's best damage dealer to help me.

Well the pc that got attacked died. I am now in civil court of the town under a murder charge. Is there any spells that could help me beat the murder rap. I spent the day by myself. Divination spells only let me here what is true or not. And if I do speak dead with the dead pc it would still say i attacked him?

Is there any way out???

04-05-04, 02:20 AM Confess and ask for exile. It's not like you killed a local; they shouldn't care that much.

04-05-04, 02:23 AM I am already in jail and i have stated I'm innocent. If I'm found guilty I will either be hanged or drawn and quartered.

I know speak with dead should get me out of killing an npc in my temple. Is there any cleric spells that would reveal the truth, would the city/court system have clerics that would use divinations spells to determine if you were lieing?

04-05-04, 02:43 AM Looks like you might have to do an escape, then hunt down the creature that framed you. This might be something the DM has planned; hopefully the PCs will help you out.

You neglected to inform us what level you are; that could be very important.

Discern Lies is a 4th-level cleric spell; if there are any 7th-level clerics in town, they might cast it on you for about 280 gp. Thing is, be careful that the cleric is a trusty cleric and not the shapechanger again.

Let us know how it turns out.

Next: the shapechangers might want to see you in front of court. So, possibly, he'll be present in court (in hanged shape). You might use that to your advantage. Try to convince the court to find the betrayer in your midst. When somebody gets really nervous, you might find proof you need.
