Hey, guys, I've posted around the forums a good bit, and I've learned a lot about the game of Dungeons and Dragons thanks to the great members.

The only problem is, I don't really have anyone to play with. I suppose I could rephrase that, I don't have enough serious players, and I am not experienced enough to be a dungeon master.

I was wondering if you guys could suggest ways of finding other players, is there a secret code word I can exclaim that would instantly grab the attention of all players within earshot? I doubt it, but I honestly would like to find other players and enjoy a serious game of Dungeons and Dragons.

Also, what are the best classes to play to learn the various mechanics of the game? Wizards, Clerics, and Druids are all cool and fun-looking classes, but I'm somewhat intimidated by having to prepare spells. Combat rules aren't that big of a deal, and I think I could manage playing a nonspellcaster class, but one that requires preparation at each rest period just seems a bit overwhelming for a new player.

Check either a gaming store near your area if you have one or find the Gamer Classifieds on the forums here, either should give you a reasonable ability to find a game. If not, I've found playing over the internet can be as fun as playing in person.

As far as character classes goes, for new players I usually recommend the Fighter or some other simple non-spellcaster class. This is simply because hitting them with a stick is easier to explain and get comfortable with before you start worrying about spells and such.

The best around here we have in term of "gaming stores" is a Wal-Mart and a GameStop. I've never heard of "Gamer Classifieds" before, what exactly are you talking about? How exactly do you go about playing Dungeons and Dragons online? (P.S. I don't like the MMO, if that's what you're talking about.)

Yeah, I assumed starting with a non-spellcaster would be easy, what about a hybrid class such as the psionic warrior, or a bard?

And:
Play by Post (that is, by posting on a forum), right here:

The Gamer Classifieds are a part of this forum found here:

That's just a place where one can post their location and try to find games in their area.

As far as online gaming, no I wasn't referring to the MMO. You have a couple of options here. There are plenty of games in the classifieds that are listed as Instant Messaging games, or you can try Play by Post as mentioned before. Personally I play over the internet with a few friends from high school. I use a program called OpenRPG which has a built in dice roller, whiteboard for battle maps, and text chat, as well as plenty of other plug-ins. To speed up chatting you can use a voice program such as Ventrilo or Skype. Of course all of this requires finding other players. My best suggestion in that regard is either the Gamer Classifieds or try your luck with Google and see if you can find a listing of games somewhere else.

Good Luck

P.S. hybrid classes work in their own way for a new player. They're a bit more tricky than straight combat classes and in some ways trickier than pure spellcasters in that they have a more limited selection of spells and uses/day so it's a bit harder to make those count. I was suggesting Fighter as I normally do for any new players I DM simply because Fighters are one of the more straightforward classes and it doesn't require a hefty knowledge of game mechanics to work all that well.

Well i think people got you covered on where to find players.

But on you question for classes, well it depends on you really
Try to find something that fits you and not something you play
just because it does a lot damage. Like the rogue class they
are pretty cool they get kick a skills and you can really
do some damage with sneak attack. So try being a sneaky rogue that
steals for the party or steals for himself. (might not want to go as
far as stealing yet)

As for multi class Take rogue as your first and fighter as your second.
You get a lot of skill points and a lot of feats to back them up.

I played a rogue/Fighter my DM locked me in a dungeon and only strapped my hands to the wall so when the guard came in i kicked him in the face. Killing him by jaming his nose bone into his brain.:D (rolled 20 and then another 20 for instant kill) Whats retarded they were going to take me to the gallows to hange me. I escaped there grapple sleight of handed the guards weapons and fought my way back to my stuff.

( if that interest you any consider th rogue/fighter class.)

Have fun playing!

Click Here (http://www.penandpapergames.com/) to go to Pen and Paper games where after you register your location, the site will show you other registered players in the area you specified upon registration (which is free). And it is a forum similar to these WotC forums to talk with other players.
