| quintar04-10-06, 10:41 AM | Hello, we're in a campaign right now. and we frequently run in to ghosts. now we're all having problems with these things. if a ghost possesses a player. how the heck do you get it out?? or can you slay the ghost with out killing the body?? thanks anyone. |

Ghostsight and ghostouch are the features to look for. Force effects can hurt/stop them (mage armour, shield, magic missile), as can protection from evil. |
| Lincoln Hills04-10-06, 11:45 AM | Possession-proofing is a simple matter. See the text of protection from evil. Note that, unlike the other uses of that spell, the ghost does not have to have the particular alignment listed by the spell - all domination and possession effects are suspended. Technically the ghost can remain in possession (inside your friend's body) to avoid your attacks, although it would be powerless to make the "possessed" character do anything. Actual eviction is probably possible through dispel evil or dismissal, since ghosts are extraplanar. |
| Johnny Cache04-10-06, 08:05 PM | Hm, does being in a body protect a ghost from positive energy? Perhaps you could hurt the ghost inside if you cast cure spells on a healthy, but posessed, character. |
| Feor04-10-06, 09:24 PM | Someone's gotta ask it: "Who you gonna call?" As to your question, your best bet is probably Dispel Evil. It removes any evil enchantments on a touched subject, and if you touch an extraplanar evil outsider with it you can force them back to their home plane. A possession normally falls under both those catagories in terms of mechanics. |
| Jacen LeBeau04-10-06, 10:56 PM | Google "Crystal Keep" and download their "Cleric domains list." I forget which book it's in, but there's an Exorcism domain. Sacred Exorcists (Complete Divine) gain an exorcism class ability. They're a great divine prc in general, too. Libris Mortis has a few feats that protect against/enhance your ability to fight incorporeal undead (ghosts, etc). |
| quintar04-13-06, 12:09 PM | So what if no one is a 9th lvl cleric to cast dispel evil?? we all assumed that a ghost's Malevolence would allow it to take control of the player and the the person was basically "trapped" inside their own body watching. now i'm sure that an exorcism could be allowed, a nice 2-3 hour ritual or something similar. but there's no other way to deal with a ghost? i guess as long as it doesn't control you, it's not the end of the world atleast :) |
