Toran_A_Sunder 12-13-05, 06:14 PM	So I am making a character for my friends game. He is a Gnome Artificer/Effigy Master. He loves to invent stuff. he is huge on dragons, so the majority of his effigies will be of arious dragons. But as an artificer and inventor I am trying to come up with all sorts of things for him to invent. I have a handful of ideas so far: A headpiece that, through the manipulation of various lenses, gives various benefits (detect magic, detect evil, detect secret doors, +"X" to spot and search, etc. The party is a group of mystery solvers). A pair of gloves each with a wand affixed to it that fires either a bolt of repair wounds and cure wounds. Its a mixture of those spells and magic missle, so that it unerringly hits the target, but for curative purposes. Some sort of huge planar travelling device which could be the focal point for various adventures (finding an artifact to power to machine, the machine not sending us to the right plane, things of that nature) An enormous number of tiny constructs (not unlike clockwork horrors, but minus the whole evil thing) to aid me on my grander creations (huge golden dragon effigy) A number of containers that function like a bag of holding, except they are a mix of magic and technology, and they resemble dragon eggs. Thats what I have so far. I'd love some more ideas, either keeping with the dragon theme or just all around useful devices one could create. Thanks!

CaoSlayer 12-15-05, 10:51 AM	one of the most classical things to do by a gnome artificier it is to develop a metal gear, that it is use polymorph as base spell and build youself a iron body with the physical stats of a creature.
Toran_A_Sunder 12-15-05, 02:11 PM	I'm devising some sort of flame thrower (or similar) invention, because effigies of dragons have no breath weapons,and that just wont do for my gnome. I'm sure alchemists fire will factor heavily in my creation. I like the metal gear idea. I've already decided my gnome will invent the first "mech" for D&D :P What else can people give me?! :D

Thanks!"Useful" is such a relative term . . . :D I'd imagine a character like this would build all sorts of small items that would be of use to him in mundane tasks or serve as nice creature comforts even in the most dreadful of outer conditions. I have a halfling artificer NPC in a current game (low-level) who does things like that. He's currently got an eversmoking pipe and is trying to work on the satchel of endless bacon. Little things like that can help define a character, make him fun to play, and (with enough creativity, and a DM who's in for some fun) end up finding plenty of in-game uses for the most random and bizarre items, McGuyver style.
Toran_A_Sunder 12-16-05, 10:02 AM	The wings idea is good, but I will be attempting to outfit some of my larger flying effigies with a cockpit of sorts in the head. Though upgrades for existing wings would be cool (there is a raptoran in the party as well) Eversmoking cigar most likely, as my gnome has a weakspot for fine cigars. But I like the idea. More more more!
