I'm sure this has come up, but I wasn't able to find a thread.

I'm looking for a great name for a gnome fighter.

I'm going to avoid names that are puns (gnomercy, etc) or out of character references (tripod, etc).

I'm just looking for a list of solid, rp gnome names. Anyone have a link to a thread or your own pet names?

Have you seen the list in the PHB?

Personally I like to use French style names for Gnomes - like "Dominique de la Pierre" or "Pierre du Gateaux"

gnomish fighter eh? how about Useless? This gives me an idea for an entire party...

gnomish fighter: Useless
gnomish druid: Helpless
gnomish cleric: Pointless
orcish abjuration specialist wizard: Ridiculous

Truly a company of destiny.

GnomercyI am so stealing that name. It's awesome.

Anyway, the thing I like to do with gnomish names is to mash the keyboard a few times, and make sense of whatever letters pop up.

Eg: Mashing: esrpuzvr. Turn into: Esrupiziver
Eg: Mashing: rhwtapirsho. Turn into: Rwhatapirsho. (Say the first part like Rwanda)

Silly Gnome name every time!

In Races of Stone there is an excellent name generation chart (which will give you a name that means something in gnome). It also has a really great section on gnome naming conventions and stuff.
There is also a name generator on this site, just search for it.

For making up names, in general gnomes like names that sound fun and are fun to say. Just mash around syllables out loud until you come up with a fun name to say that isn't necassarily ridiculous.

That's funny, we use spanish for gnomish. French is elven and the dwarves are either Scot or German (there's a bit of a disagreement on the subject). Humans usually have a british accent.

Gnomes are ridiculous, so jsut go with whtever really silly thing pops into your head, like Plimble Booblescoop or Pingles Dishpilfer or Scooch Handlewax or Flink Pootwhistle or Whify Tingleberries.

See, it's easy. Just ask yourself "What would a 7 year old come up with after suffereing severe head trauma" and you're golden.

Whenever a server goes live on WoW, Gnomercy is the first name to be taken

Here's Ed's big book of Gnome Names.

Fumbus Grumbletummy is my personal favorite, almost every gnome character I make has that name.

As you can see I don't play gnomes much heh

gnomish druid: Helpless
gnomish cleric: Pointless

Care to explain why a race with a CON and AC bonus is pointless for a primary caster? Gnomes make better druids and clerics in my opinion than elves at least...

I've actually been working (or rather was working some time ago) on a gnome language for the Zil in Eberron. Following the convention of long names, I may recommend the following:

for a male gnome:

Adso Orye Elaranno evn'Ionasan Cenyasoeri esa Zolaren

'Adso Orye Elaranno, son of Ionasan Cenyasoeri of the house of Zolaren' Adso to his friends, Orye to his younger sister, Elaranno the Magnificent to any and all merchants, Adi to his mother, and Doz to his father.

for a female Gnome

Ismene Moiya Hianlassi ava'Iocasila Cientolo esa Zolaren

'Ismeme Moiya Hianlassi daughter of Iocasila Cientolo of the house of Zolaren' Isme to her friends, 'the relentless one' to her foes, Mya to both her parents, and to the greater public known as Asha.

I like making sure a gnome name has at least one, and if possible a couple of good shortforms.

I'm playing a gnome named Nergob, he goes Nerby, GoGo and Gob on occasion.

I admit I flipped through a dictionairy to create my character's gnome-name, smashing words together in combinations that could, with some effort, make sense.
In full, it's Pinkish (name given by her mother when she was born) Bluebrook (name given by the clan elder - the whole clan is called like that) Applepippa (name given to her by her father) Pifflepie Blinkfish Wittywitch Nimblekiss (how her friends call her - she picks the names she likes and adds them to the ones she already has). Her Father is called Husk Rube Wingfoot of Yonderthere (metaphorical, for story purpose), and her best friend is Brawn Bluebrook Eyriegarden, to give some male names.

Things to consider: how does he behave? Where does he come from, what does his house look like, what steed does he ride, what heirlooms does he carry, what scars does he have, what company is he often in, etc.

Sometimes, I use an online dictionairy to translate an important word towards some foreign language (elven, or quecha or hindi for that matter). Webster's Online Dictionairy is quite handy: 'Important' becomes "vigtig" in Danish, "saygın" in Turkish, etc. I just have to pick the one I find sounding best. This way, 'Ugly Prat that No-one Likes" becomes "Memble Fäne Yan Nimmen Gosta". Sounds nice.
