Surprise

Hi all,

I'm playing a gnome cleric of Garl Glittergold in a DnD game and I need some help. My cleric's current goal in the campaign is to pull off at least one prank on a given party member every day (he's surrounded by serious humans who don't nearly laugh enough). My problem is that the poor lil gnome is starting to run out of ideas. Gasp!

He has access to the Trickery Domain, is a base 17th divine caster and has the following useful feats-quicken spell, domain spontaneity (Trickery) and extraordinary concentration. He also around 15k in gold that he can use to splurge on "equipment."

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas,

Heh... do you mind if the player you trick wants to kill you afterwerds? If you don't care then might I suggest you take watch at night, remove his cl.... nevermind. I'll get in trouble.

SPELLS
Polymorph any Object should be used very liberally. (e.g. turn the Fighter's saddle into a human, and enjoy hearing it complain about beint sat on all day.)

Use Gaeas/Quest in very, very, VERY silly ways. (e.g. compelling the rogue to shout SHAZBOT whenever he farts.)
Note: You'll need to voluntarily lower your caster level on this one by 2, so that you can later cast Break Enchantment once the humor has been fully milked.

Command, Greater, on the party's Faceman when he's trying to communicate complex information to someone (make sure that its not at a crucial time). You'll need your DM's permission to alter the spell to its 3.0 version for just this once, in order for you to choose a command not listed in the 3.5 PHB. The most amusing one in the above situation would probably be "Stutter."

Use Righteous Might on yourself...as you're strolling through town with your party.

Sending to any of your friends when they're doing anything personal. For example. "Whatchya doin'?" when your friend is answering using the little adventurer's room. Or, just as he's going to sleep, or just fell asleep: "Pssst! Are you awake?"

Late at night, cast Deeper Darkness on a gem or gold piece promptly before putting it into a friend's money pouch. Fun for the whole family on shopping day.

Inflict Minor Wounds = your own personal joy buzzer

ITEMS
Buy Tanglefoot bags. Use them often.

We could write an entire thread around uses of Immovable Rods. They cost 5k, I highly suggest you purchase one.
Amusing uses:
Activate right above the fighter's forehead as he sleeps, and then make a big ruckus. He wakes up with a start, and smacks himself on the noggin.
Shove into a friend's backpack and activate it while he's not paying attention. Then make fun of him for his lack of strength.

A normal strength Silent Metamagic Rod can help all you pull off all your above spell tricks. It costs 11k, and can be used on spells of 6th level and below.

Folding boats can be VERY amusing, depending on how your DM adjucates their use. If he allows you to use the command word mid-air, for instance, then you can throw it and speak the command for a very entertaining evening at the local pub. (Make sure you can run away, fast.) Costs 7.2k

Decanter of Endless Water costs 9k, and can be a source of endless fun when disguised (via one of your illusions) to look like a potion of _________. Simply replace it for a real potion in one of your friend's belongings. Shout GEYSER when your friend goes to take a drink, and he'll get very, very wet.

Dust of Disappearance costs 3.5k, and when used on a treasured item, can cause panic to quickly spread ("Uhhh, guys? Where'd the holy artifact of St. Euuuuu go?")

Dust of Dryness is CHEAP at 850 gp. Buy a bunch, take a day off and visit the river. Come back with a pocketfull of the best water baloons EVER.

See if you can find any Murlynd's Spoons that were not properly created. The idea is that it does its thing (creating a bunch of gruel) when placed in ANY container. Place it, you guessed it, in your friend's bag.

400gp will buy you a qual's feather token (Tree). Activate it (or several of them) in the most inconveinent place possible. Doorways, for example.

Sovereign Glue is pricey, at 2.4k an ounce, but has a huge range of uses, ranging from mildy useful to extremely annoying. Pick up some universal solvent (50gp), so your joke doesn't permanently ruin anything.

Stone of Alarm (2.7k) can be very very irritating, especially when applied to a friend's sword as he sleeps.

Whew. Great post, OP. I had a lot of fun making this (not entirely comprehensive) list.

Thanks, Bry, those are some great ideas!

I'm currently working on determining my other party members' equipment lists, so I can do some innocent "swapping" with a Rod of Wonder  .

I've already found the joys of the Immovable Rod and Tanglefoot bags, lol. I've pretty much exhausted Prestidigitation and Quickened Create Water (anyone remember You Can't Do That On Television?).

I will be sure to try out the different types of dusts, I completely forgot about those.

Anyone else have good ideas?

Use your ghost sound to make someone make the BIGGEST FART EVER. Someone as in the next angel that comes to you with a message from the gods :P

When the group is sleeping in an upstairs room at an inn, take a local farmers cow and lead it into your party members rooms. You see cows will go up stairs but they will absolutely refuse to go down. For added fun notify the innkeeper and/or farmer of the dilemma.

Buy a second immovable rod then alternate using the two to climb into the sky. Proceed to spontaneously drop out of nowhere on party member heads and claim the stork brought you.

Pour a potion of enlarge/reduce person in party members ale mugs at taverns

Buy a ring of the ram and use it on every tavern door the party's fighter ever opens.

While your party is sleeping in a dungeon use stoneshape to trap someone in the floor

Salve of slipperyness on the wizards spellbook/pants

When walking into town start screaming WITCh and point at parties spellcaster

use a chime of opening on someones belt buckle

Use gloves of storing to keep a large angry chicken handy at all times

get an npc wizard to cast sepia snake sigil on a scroll you give to the wizard. Improvise while he cant move

whenever the bard rolls a perform check shout you're joining in with your horn of blasting Get a broom of flying, offer it to someone to use, and when they accept, hand them a broom of animated attack

put sovreign glue in the fighters scabbard

(eep im going too expensive, backtrack a bit...)

Get a bag of tricks then throw the animal in someones bag

get boots of speed, constantly declare that you are running circles around the heavily armoured fighter

nail horseshoes to the bottom of someones boots. also consider sovreign glue

acivate a quaals feather token: Swan boat in someones backpack

Cast hold person on a robe-wearing victim, walk up, lift their robe over their head, and walk away.

Write "Property of the Nine Hells" in indelible ink on their armor or weaponry

Cast Darkness in someone's inn room just before daybreak

Forge an official letter from some government-type (earl, duke, ...etc...) to the victim demanding their presence at their high court at some time some day soon. They will attend only to be turned away. Later, forge another letter from the same person demanding their presence at the next meeting of the court since they didn't attend the last one. They will be turned away again. Finally, forge another letter telling them there is an official warrant out for their arrest due to their refusal to appear at the court. Sit back and watch 'em sweat

Paint your local elf black

Take a almost empty bag of flour and place the open end under the door of the victim. Then, jump on the full part. Flour will cover their room and everything will be white

Slip a "Amulet of Protection from Good" inside someone's back pack and invite them to accompany you to the High Temple of Healing and Justice

Give the victim a marshmallow. Cast "Enlarge" on it while they are chewing

Fill the victim's quiver 1/4 the way up with black concrete. They won't notice, and just wait until they try to draw an arrow

Purchase a sword hilt that looks _very_ similar to the hilt on the victim's sword. Take the sword from the scabbard, and attach the new hilt to the scabbard so it looks like the sword is still there. When they next draw their sword, they will be posturing with a hilt minus blade

Spread a rumor in the local mages' guild that the victim's plain old quarterstaff is actually a long-lost artifact of great power. It is so great, it has the power to mask it's natural abilities and hide the evil intent of it's wielder. But be careful!, it holds many powers and to get it away from it's wielder, they must be sneaky. Sit back and watch what lengths mages will go to to take the staff

Cast "Alarm" on someone's chamber pot

Please note that some of these came from this (http://www.planetadnd.com/humor/misc_humor/jokesnpranks.php) website.

Andrew_980, thank you for your concern, but I believe that you are missing the point of this thread. I'm looking for humourous pranks to pull on my stiff and boring party members. The jokes/pranks I'm looking for are not intended to be painful and/or dangerous to my friends. Indeed, my lil gnome's shenanigans has brought a lot of laughter to the game. If you have any ideas, feel free to share them,

Thanks for the link, Josheva, that will be very useful. I'll keep a lookout, Rabid, ;)

I think I need to buy a Metamagic, Silent Rod for some of these pranks to work out, but I think it's money well spent.

I look forward to seeing more ideas!

1. Doctor up the trail of a large creature through the woods. Make it a large near-cirlce (maybe a mile or so radius) and convince the party that they need to track down this creature.
2. Explosive Runes
3. Valuable objects and invisible rope.

Invest in some marvelous pigments (It had a name before it that started with an n) its 4000gp. You can paint 2d pictures onto stuff and have it turns into 3d real, non magical objects. I believe the 4 grand gets you enough for 1000 cubic feet, allowing for plenty of pranks left to the imagination.

Remember that as a gnome you have some arcane cantrips as spell like abilities. Dancing Lights, Ghost Sound, and Prestidigitation are all ripe with possibilities :)

rob some keys using spells and place them in a party members rucksack, inform the landlord, householder or merchant, that you just saw him rob the keys! I did this a long time back without spells obviously, very amusing. :D

It's a pity Shrink Item is Sor/Wiz only - so many possibilities.

Elixir of Love in a party member's drink is always good for a laugh.

Throw a handful of Dust of Tracelessness into another party member's room when you're getting ready to check out of the inn.

A vial of silversheen can be a life-saver against vampires, but try pouring it into a party member's money pouch instead, especially if they've accumulated some platinum pieces.

Bag of Tricks. Other party members' bedrolls. 'Nuff said.

My signature has an idea. Also, you could cast dancing lights so that it looks like two monster eyes in some dark corner, and ghost-sound some growls or something. Of course, this would be cancelled if your party has lowlight vision or something.
Also, the gnome has a talk to burrowing animals ability, and this could be useful (You can use diplomacy on animals if you can talk to them, right?)
