| Denilus04-13-06, 11:19 PM | Basic question . . . Do we have a chance? Our DM talked us (recent 2nd level Bard, Thief and Barbarian) into chasing gobins into their tunnels. A few confusing corridors and linked rooms later, we're jumped by a group of 19 goblin footsoldiers, and managed to whup them, but basically lost a third of our hit points each. Most of the things we did to try and intimidate them didn't work: the little buggers really tired us out (kill or be killed!). I've got some oil bombs and a "Flame-thrower" I stole (10 charges), and Al's got cure light wounds, but is there a stategy to keep from getting over-run? Should we follow the trail deeper into the mountain, or abandon the chase to get some rest (provided we can even get out)? I know if we get split up, we're dead. Suggestions? |

| Sjay104-14-06, 04:24 AM | I say set them up for a trap...given the fact you're in a cave gives you some opportunities, Try lureing them into a bottleneck situation, fight the little green bastards one at a time, and if you can manage to get onto higher ground you might be able to give the masses behind the 1 on 1 fighting a few of those oil bombs to chew on gheghe... Perhaps i missed the total amount of goblins you're facing, ofcourse if you're up for a fight against hundreds you'd best get the **** out of there....but in case they catch you try to go for the tactic placed above... |
| nyysjan04-14-06, 08:13 AM | I assume the goblins were basic 1st level warriors that didn't use any tactics can't see any other way you are still alive if you fought in their home turf. Regroup, rest, get some extra supplies and then go after them. The DM has played the goblins badly (or you have played extremely well/been extremely lucky) either because these goblins are stupid or because he wants to lure you into a trap. what type of weapons did these goblins have |
| OravennasBrother04-14-06, 11:38 AM | Your group is not designed to defeat hordes of Goblins. While the Barbarian might have cleave (if Human) neither of the other characters should be able to drop more than a single goblin with any attack sequence (save perhaps Alchemists Fire/whatever you are using for a flamethrower) this will leave yuo at a serious disadvantage if you get cornered by a large group which uses missile weapons or any tactics besides allowing you to call the tune. Thus it seems that without DM contrivance an advance by that party will result in TPK. |
| DaMullet04-14-06, 01:01 PM | A goblin Hoard... Why, exactly, are you taking and selling/using as currency goblin corpses? I also reccomend trying to get out, use an illusion spell to distract the goblins, have the Barbarian cover either the rear or the front (whichever one your DM is more likely to trow bad guys at you from). |
| Denilus04-14-06, 04:15 PM | Funny you should mention that last point... we are getting paid a bounty for goblin ears. Thanks for spelling out what I already thought... no future in continuing "down the rabbit hole"... THANKS! May you always roll a 20. ;) |
