| Lokai07-13-07, 01:29 AM | Well recently i have started to play an artificer, i've really focused on just making items, being support and making one thing i feel artificers are king of... Golems. So focused on doing nothing but this. Here are issues run into though.... Golems are immune to Magic does this mean: i can't buff them? do the infusions like iron construct increase the damage reduction? or like i assume just give 14/Admantine which helps if bypass normal damage reduction. Is a book has more infusions help buff my construct? My main golem is actually a golem lets me ride inside of it,completely inclosed and it actsas my armor is any book gives a way or rules to custumize this? really like not having to use the basic template from a 3rd source i'd like somthing offical. Prestige Class: only found effigy master prestige but wasn't really what i wanted, are any prestiges focus on golem creation? Would making this a cohort prehaps resolve some issues, allowing it to get feats and advance?(just opinions here would help). |

Golems, unless otherwise stated, are completely immune to any magic or psionics spell/power which allows spell resistance. They effectivly have infinite unbeatable spell resistance. Certain specific types of magic/psionics can affect them in very specific ways according to their descriptions. That means no buffing if the buff allows spell resistance. No infusions if they allow spell resistance... As for the riding inside a golem, its kind of a cool idea but only a few specific types of golems are hollow and how does it open? There's no rules for this type of thing so I hope your DM thought it through carefully before allowing it as it could easily be abused. |

This is a lot like the inventor template I'm working on. 3rd level sorcerer crafts raygun of frost, adds lens of improved targeting, lens of enhanced damage, and a highspeed stock. All up a wonderous magic item usable as a weapon (with weaponbonus/ray& weaponfinesse/ray) that is quickened to the point of being usable six times a round. All within the rules but it is a process to continuously enchant and improve over a multitude of spellcaster levels to 14th level. Frankly if you want a Mecha sized Golem, then you need to think of it as a robot-can we add metamagic targeting and damage enhancement feats as a lens attatchment and a ray projector-damn right we can. Can we upgrade the frame quality to masterwork-you betcha. So if you want the MechaGolem, stack in a large- colossal size progression table, and be prepared to have it start out as a large unarmoured weaponless rideon until you pick up crafts on armorsmithing, and whatnot. As a "Robotics engineer" you can constantly improve the assorted parts of your "bot". |
| Lokai07-13-07, 03:09 AM | umm is a 3rd source book name eludes me its late, BUT it actualy has a golem called and i think is right " Golem Armor" which is basically an armor you wear, but it IS a golem in all respet. see if i remember all detaisl... 30 foot move, 90 fly, 60 swim 30/-magic DR immune to all magic except lightning: heals 1 per 3 damage, and cold does normal damage. it opens up in chest, and climb in and it wraps and seals around person, fully enclosing them inside. Air supply inside is infinite as long as vents are open, if close vents then you get a 2 hour air supply. the idea was actually suggested by my DM fit focus of my character and his golems, and i see what you mean by instead of buffs just upgrading outter shell and frame work, that is a great idea. |
| DrMorganes07-13-07, 07:35 AM | I'd say what you're describing is less a golem and more a wondrous item, like an Apparatus of Kwalish (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#apparatusoftheCrab). The SRD calls it an "apparatus of the crab" A golem would have a certain independence and ability to act autonomously. Given the fact that golems have no minds, and aren't very bright, I'd say that would be a bad thing for something you're wanting to ride/wear into combat. That said, work with your DM to develop whatever you need. I know I love it when my players give me plot hooks - er, input into the campaign world. Developing a Golem Master prestige class would be cool. (Off the top of my head, I'd say it would only need 3 or 5 levels. Golems just aren't that complex...) |
| DrMorganes07-13-07, 07:40 AM | Lokai: I've created a discussion thread in What's a DM to Do? to see if we can't come up with some suggestions - if not an outright submission - for a Golem Master prestige class. Check it out. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=13057718#post13057718) |

| snakeman83007-14-07, 05:19 PM | If you happen to be a gnome, a one-level dip into Maester will cut your crafting time in half for all magic items, including constructs. Maester is in Complete Adventurer. |

Check it out. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=13057718#post13057718) The Minimum Sorcerer/Wizard Level to become a GOLEM MASTER Prestiege Class should be Fifth level. These are the minimum levels you can have for Craft Wonderous and Craft Weapons/Armour. We Begin with the ability to make a Tiny or Diminutive Golem (Cloth Doll Golem where you require Craft(Weaving). Because you dont have the Spells to power it, you need a Permanent Magic item such as a Ring of Haste to provide the Motive Power. This Allows the Creation of a Tiny Or Diminutive Cloth Doll Golem At Craft (Weaving) DC 12 to create the Body.
