In an exalted campagin, my character, the rogue (level 9 rogue/ lvl 2 slayer of domiel) needs an atonement, and thus has been told to do a good deed, like hero stuff, and as I am not sure whether this or not belongs in the BOED, I'm posted it here.

What good deeds would it be adviseable for the rogue to do, to gain the fame of a hero so he can atone?

Hm, perhaps something Robin Hood-esque? Find a corrupt, major overlord and steal his riches, give to the poor?

Er... well, that may not be exalted, so I'm not sure. Heh, sorry.

What is the rogue's alignment? That may be a major deciding factor.

Simply making a major personal sacrifice, say half of his current wealth may be enough in some circumstances, or the Robin Hood thing works as well.

Maybe take a month off adventuring and work tirelessly for an orphanage or leper colony or whatever reminding yourself of humility and the need to assist others and so on.

The choice is pretty limitless to be fair.

The rogue is lawful good as that is a requirement of the slayer I beleive.

I once offered myself as tribute for a summoning ritual needed to lift a curse some demon cast on an entire town..

That exalted enough?

I assume that you want to choose an heroic deed which plays toward your rogue abilities. How about one of the following?

Rescue someone who is imprisoned by an evil person/creature.

Steal an object which was unfairly taken from its lawful owner.

Infiltrate a group of bad guys and either capture or kill its leader (or at least find out information leading to his being captured or killed.)

I expect your DM is willing to work with you. Give him some heads-up. And make it big! Call him about 20 nights in advance and tell him 'My character heard about a black-gaurd holding a peasant-girl hostage in his castle, and her father is unable to raise the funding necessary to hire any mercenaries.' or some similar such tripe.

I think liberating a group of hostages from some sort of internment camp would do nicely, something like that would be more suited to a rogue anyway.

It is made slightly more difficult because of the Lawful aspect of your alignment. I would say that this rules out theft or breaking and entry and so on (assuming that these are the laws that you follow).

The way that I would look at it as a DM is that if there is no aspect of personal sacrifice and/or personal risk then it is not significant. Paying lip-service won't do the job. How you choose to fulfil these criteria is up to you.

Well, here is the brief history of the world situation. The kingdom we are in, is currently in civil war, because the King was Assasinated. A few of the members saw the murderer, possibly a doppleganger, and was imprisoned to be protected by the prince. The uncle comes, waits with an army outside for a few days, gets impatatient, thinks the prince killed the king and vice verca, we escape, we know prince innocent, we're wanted for killing king, then there is a duke who declared his own area a country because he can, so there is a 3 sided war going on, in addition to the south, there is some disruptions dealing with demons/devils. Our eventual goal is to find who killed the king and try to restore the prince to power. The thief was in the jail, part of the government to keep them safe, and now we have a good bounty hunter who tried holy balling us, thinking us evil, and has joined with us.
I also have the Hero Builders, so I am going to see if there is anything that I roll that can apply.

Edit: We met today, and just decided to kill the Duke, which would solve a lot of problems, and thus after some failed plans, we are in his castle, and me apart of the others, following some rogue guys of the dukes, who is heading down near the dungeons, or I can continue looking for the duke in the upper levels, with a +1 dagger that is coated in poison (Deathblade iirc)
