In two campaigns I am playing a gnome sorcerer and a gnome cleric, respectively. I was trying to think of good practicle jokes to pull as gnomes so often love to do, that won't tick off the party or interfere with game play.

Any Ideas?

Use Prestidigitation to make someone's rations taste like something horrible, I prefer Black Licorice.

Hey, I like black liquorice! And gnome pranks are a matter of practice. Just think of a trick you would play on your friends and expand it to suit your character's abilities. Just remember not to screw with their equipment while on an adventure.
If you replace the wizard's spellbook with a pornographic magazine when he goes to buy new spells fine. If you switch his bat guano with ashes mixed with glue expect him to be upset when a white dragon eats him.
It's just best to play pranks when not in danger, though claiming you hear a monster is always funny.

You heartless bastards, lol, j/k.

Excessivly greedy rogue + illusionary money over a pile of dung = priceless.

Sovreign Glue + Pints of Ale + Dwarves = Hilarious.

Find a Low Int. Half-Orc and cast Magic Mouth on his weapon. Use the magic mouth to convice the dupe that the weapon is a magical, intelligent weapon, with a "special purpose" to protect and aid gnomes. Reap the benefits.

Fake your own death in a dramatic fashion. (i.e.: Make it look like a Dragon killed you.) Come back using the Ghost Form spell and demand that your former comrads seek vengence on your behalf. (Snipe Hunting, D&D style.)

A small sampling of the various antics of Tomte Barbaerlun (aka Marbles Barbaloot), my favorite gnome rogue/illusionist:

1. Glue a coin to the ground.
2. Two words - horse laxative.
3. Watch the sky for no reason to see how many others look up as well.
4. Have someone hold the end of a rope, explaining that you're using it for a measurement. Unwind it around a blind corner. Have someone else hold the other end, using the same justification. Walk away.
5. Always - *ALWAYS* - carry a decent supply of itching powder.
6. Once per day, secretly shave 1/4" off the bottom of the wizard's staff.

anything that doesnt cause damage, damage equipment, or take free will (i.e. charm person) is usualy fair game.
telekinesis a pile of gems away from anyone who tries to take it (classic dollar on a string)
find the biggest guy in the tavern, then the second biggest, use ventriliquism to make little guy insult big guy (a helium induced squeek makes it all the better). hilarity ensues
major image yourself as a 10 story tall, extremely fat gnome (or do it to someone else). and enjoy the looks on peoples faces.
mirror image, cast 5-10 times, run through town. need i say more?

done the Zone of truth in a tavern... Party tiefling now hates me....:D . But seeing as I'm the primary healer at this time....

Ghost sounds in the woods. tinkling bells, giggles, etc.

Dancing lights around corners. Especially if it's late at night and the party's trying to avoid the watch.

Create water has a few uses.

Why the HELL would the dwarf be inteding on letting go of his ale anyway?

Ever?

To pick up a new full mug, that is the only time I can think of.

ooh! that reminds me of one that happened in my old campaign. the wizard had gotten a spell called Undaunted Fixture (works much like Sovereign Glue) and he applied it to the rogue's barstool. this was not too long before someone whom the party was supposed to meet showed up and waved them over to her table. needless to say, the rogue's pants failed their strength check before the spell did.

this was the wizard's revenge for what is now only known as "the Grapple Crossbow Incident."

I was mainly going for the image of a Dwarf picking up an entire table so that he could drink his ale. However, the truth of the matter is, if you can't think of a good Prank involving Sovreign Glue, you're not trying hard enough.

For example:

Most insulting way to finish off the Evil BBEG Monk w/o actually killing him...

Knock him unconcious. Put him in a set of Full Plate and attach it via some sovreign glue. By the way, a good "insult to injury" twist on this idea would be Misfit815's "Always carry itching powder."

Balance cups of water on doorknobs of closed doors. Knock on the doors.

(I've done this).

Cast that one Fog spell in a backroom of a tavern, then tell the barkeep that they're doing some drug back there.
