Hey there all, my friend is making a new character and we are coming up short on good names for lizardfolk. So hopefully you all know of some!
Thanks in advance!

A common convention for doing Lizard-y names (and language in general) is to make them full of hard consonants and repetitive vowel sounds, to simulate a sort of alien, barbaric feel. Try to make them multisyllabic if you can, other wise they end up sounding orcish. (if you feel up to it, Meso-american languages work great for this, but they tend to be a little difficult for English speakers to pronounce).
Examples: Probably want to avoid "Grok", sounds orcish, so
Garakta
Toakot
Nakai
Yektuxu

Maybe make it so no one could pronounce his original name so he just asked for words in common that he liked the sound of and came up with things like ssneaks

How about:

Sslique (Incorrectly pronounced as "sleek" by pinkskins)

It's a take on the old Myth Adventures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythAdventures) joke:

Skeeve: What's your name?
Aahz: Aahz.
Skeeve: Oz?
Aahz: No relation.

Point being here that humanoids just don't hear the subtle differences in the sibilant pronunciation.

@Mock: Bonus points for the Land of the Lost reference!

Re: Good name for a lizardman rouge?

For a lizardman rouge? Probably Eau d' scale, or Ravishing Reptile.

For a lizardman rogue...? ;)

Probably: Skrash, Shruk, Krahl, Nessk, or Shriv.

I am building a Sivak Draconian ("Dragonlance" lizardmen for anyone who doesn't know them) Fighter for an Arena game and so I ran into the same problems. Mine will be named Skagg, which if you like, you're more than welcome to use.
I'd suggest hitting the "SK"s and "SL"s.

I've seen this come up sometimes in my games, with characters who are either members of non-ape descended races, or elves. here's how the conversation usually goes in my games:

Elf: "I'm Quivnkjedn vsel;n lsrt, the elf."
Party: "We're going to call you Bob, k?"

Who would call it that? In a real organization, it'd get a nickname after about ten minutes.

Your sig, Prator, I must comment on it, as the creator of the Folding Chair of Salvation, and the entire concept of Stevery (Ialso had some minor input into Ted).

The religion of Ted is separate and distinct from the Way of the Folding Chair, though one may be led to believe otherwise, since I used to have a line in my sig regarding my status as a cleric of Ted.

The Way of the Folding Chair (full title: the Sublime Way of the Most Holy and Excellent Folding Chair of Salvation) is anorganization kind of like the Masons: you can be a member without renouncing other faiths, so long as you hold fast to the beliefs that the Way espouses: smiting of Steves, and playing a good, non-douche-like style of D&D.

Just a nitpick, though.

I agree with everyone who has suggested that this lizardman rogue should use a nickname (espesially if the guild is mostly non-lzardman). Maybe he'll be compared to a gecko if he's good at climbing, a chameleon if he's good at hiding or a monitaur or crocodile if he's dangerous in a fight. And let's not forget dragons....

Personally, I like to end lizardfolk names in a hissing sound, but some say that sounds more like a snake than a lizard (and others just hate me making hissing sounds, hence my name!).

Tokage: Japanese for lizard. Plus, "kage" by itself means "shadow", great for a rogue.

Ilkatuktak: ORcish curse words from Dominic Deegan. Sounds best when you say it fast.

Shink: A contraction of shank and skink.

When in doubt, use x's , s's and l's in ggreat amounts, avoding "voiced" consonants, favoring letters that can easily be spoken in a hissy voice.

Elf: "I'm Quivnkjedn vsel;n lsrt, the elf."

Easy solution.

When you create a name that is difficult to say, or write or is too long, then also create a shortened form or a nick name or title.

For example, you could say "Most humans call me Quiver" or "It means XXXXX in the common tongue" or perhaps the Elf's parents and friends called him Jedin for short from Quivnkjedn

A Lizardman's language may be extremely hard for any human to understand let alone speak, so his name might be unpernounceable, a series of hisses, if the lizardman has had any contact with humans he would have chosen a name in common for communicating. Either sound from his real name or else a partial translation of it's meaning.
