This might be a dumb question, but it's not my first..

Last night we were playing and we had to fight the BBEG. He has something are group need and we have something he needs (Shield). Now we almost have him beat but he teleports away. Before he does this he touches the shield and the shield teleport with him... Can this happen?? If this can, i'm playing a Rogue/Wizard next time... ;)

Well, that depends. You can teleport while carrying X lbs of equipment. However, I think that the operative word there is "carrying". Like, you can't have your hand on something that someone else is carrying, teleport, and take that item with you. If the shield was carried by someone in your party, then I think the DM fudged things. If it was sitting on the ground, then it's fine.

If the shield was being used by someone or is magical, then it should have gotten a will saving throw. See page 177 of the PHB on saving throws for objects. If it was nonmagical and unattended, then it doesn't get a saving throw.

Yep - if the shield was just laying around, he can teleport away with it no problem, but if you had it in your hands, you get a save to keep it from teleporting.

The wizard also doesn't have to take anything he doesn't want to - so if you try to grapple him while he teleports, you're left behind, no save.

Thanks guys.. The Pal was carrying the shield at the time, plus the shield is very powerful (magic)... Will have to forward this onto my DM... lol

The character failed the will save using his will save instead of the items magical bonus.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and asume that the character (being a paladin and all) would have had a high will save then the shield, so that even if the shield had used it's saving bonus instead of the characters would have failed anywyas.

On an some what relate note, could I use t-port to abduct someone?

You are correct. The shield's save would have been far worse. I went with the paladin's, which was 10> than the sheild's.

On the second part, you can teleport kidnapped them, so you have to touch them, provoking an AoO and they must fail their will save. If you accomplish both, then the person teleports with you, if either one is not met then you teleport alone.

See now thats the way a dm is supposed to react. :D
TPK I don't think so
From the teleport spell: .....You may also bring one additional willing medium or smaller creature......
Plus the save is:none and Will negates (object)
Edit: Are you still looking for a way to kidnap the pc TPK? If so Have you thought about casting a Mord's Magnificen mansion on the door to her hotel room? Walk into the trap without a clue. :D

Damien_Hiro.

It looks from what you said that you did things right here. If the item is attended (ie someone was holding it) then there is a save to avoid the item being stolen in that way, and you should be using the higher of the saving throw modifiers.

On the subject of telepot-kidnap though, I am afraid that the spell does not allow unwilling subjects to be teleported. If someone is unwilling to be teleported, they are not teleported. No save is necessary.Teleport
Conjuration (Teleportation)

There aren't that many ways to directly affect an object in someone else's possession. Doing so with teleport is extremely difficult. Firstly, you must cast teleport, holding the charge. At the moment the spell takes effect, you must be in contact with everything you wish to teleport (willing creatures may form a chain). If the target object is possessed by someone else, you need to succeed in a touch attack on that object (provoking an AoO - this won't disrupt the spell, but it might hurt). If you successfully touch the object you can trigger the spell, but the object automatically gets a save based on its Will save (2 + CL/2) or its owner's Will save, whichever is better (PH pg 167).
