| Ecthelion03-02-05, 05:38 AM | I recently was asked to create a couple of NPC's for my DM. He specifically wanted a ranged type, a grappler type, and a cleric. I made them and found that the grppler guy worked out very well. Just thought I'd post some him here for thoughts on how to make him better: Human Brb1/Ftr 3 Str 16, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8 Skills: Climb +10, Jump +10, Ride +9, Survival +5, Listen +5 Feats: Knife Fighter, imp.unarmed strike, imp.grapple, weapon focus [handaxe], imp.initiative While raging this should give him a grapple modifier of +13, and an attack bonus with a masterwork handaxe of +11. Not bad, eh? |

Although for a Frostrager build I wouldn't put a feat into hand axe since once you get One - two punch and Rend you'll be strictly a HtH combatant and ranks in Tumble and Escape Artist are pre reqs for Reaping Mauler. What book is Knife Fighter from and what does it do? I don't remember ever seeing it before. |

| Ecthelion03-02-05, 08:09 AM | Knifefighter is a regional feat from Player's Guide to Fearun. Eliminates the penalty for using a light weapon while grappling, which is why handaxe works well for a low-level grappler. Initially, this character was created as an NPC, and with Knifefighter I can maximise BAB and damage (I think) |
| Mad Daerek03-02-05, 07:25 PM | The reaping mauler is a great PRC. I've just started to use grappling in my playing. What is the Frostrager? It's not in any of the books I've seen? |
| Nom03-02-05, 09:34 PM | Not very 'noble', but grappling works best when you've a rogue buddy who sneak attacks the enemy while you hold him. |
| Ecthelion03-03-05, 07:58 AM | Frostrager is from the Frostburn book. Good point about the sneak attack. Is there any way of getting to sneak attack on your own when you are grappling? E.g. if you pin the guy, do you get to sneak attack? Does the feat Earth's Embrace stack with those nifty Reaping Mauler attacks in any way? Is it worth the feat, or is it more of a substitute for not going Reaping Mauler? |

For that matter, what's so good about the Reaping Mauler? I made a grappling character but I didn't use Reaping Mauler because it didn't look that good. Is Frostrager a grappling class too? I have Frostburn but I didn't look through it when making my character. |
| Ecthelion03-05-05, 06:59 AM | The reaping mauler kills a guy if he pins him for 3 rounds or something. Frostrager isn't primarily a grappler, but he can dish out much damage and gains an extra attack, and he needs imp.unarmed attack, so he works actually works very well as a grappler. Hmm. |
| deusxmachina03-07-05, 02:42 AM | Knifefighter is a regional feat from Player's Guide to Fearun.) If using Faerun stuff, then can use the Jotenbrund feat that gives a +4 as if you were large size. Oh Yes. |
