I'm trying to teach myself version 3.5, but I'm having trouble understanding grappling. How exactly do you generate the grappling "score". I know it's not a skill or feat, but I'm lost after that. My thanks to all who offer help! |
| anders03-23-06, 05:08 PM | Base attack + strength + size modifier There might be feats and skills that can increase this further. ex. lvl 5 human Fighter with 18 STR 5 (Base attack) + 4 (strength modifier) + 0 (size) = +9. edit: example |
| MrGrass03-23-06, 05:14 PM | A Grapple check consists of 1 d20, plus your Base Attack Bonus, Plus your strength modifier. So, for example. A first level human Fighter (BAB +1) With 18 Strength (STR Modifier of +4), would roll a d20 and add 5 to determine his Grapple Check. Sizes other than Medium modify your grapple check. Small creatures get a -4 to grapple checks. Large creatures get a +4 to grapple checks. Entries in the Monster Manual usually have what a monster's total modifier will be. For example, the human fighter above tries to grapple a first level Halfling Rogue (BAB +0) with a strength of 12 (modifier +1). The Fighter rolls 1d20 and adds 5. The Halfling rolls 1d20 and subtracts 3 (BAB +0, STR +1, Size modifier -4). Clearly larger and stronger creatures have the advantage in grappling. The feat Improved Grapple adds 4 to your grapple check. |
