| GreatEye06-06-05, 10:42 PM | Okay, so we've heard of the Fellowship of the Ring, The Black Company, and the Apple Dumpling Gang...... Have you come up with a cool name for your band of adventurers? Maybe not even great, but how about interesting or funny? I'd love to read them as we're stumped on a cool name for our latest band of adventurers (Human Fighter/Rogue, Halfling Rogue, Half-Orc Monk and Human Wizard) |
| Faust Ragnarok06-06-05, 10:56 PM | "We" It's a bit confusing, but I will try to explain: My party is going through a sewer/underground base that is infested with Githyanki, and we meet some githzerai that have some of them cornered. They agree to let us by if we go down a dead end hall and clear out the Githyanki, we agree to do so. We get to the room they are in and they shout out: "Who are you?". I respond (I'm normally the voice of the group) "We are We!", Them: "Who are 'we'?" Me: "We have been sent by the Githzerai!" Them "In that case go away, we wont let you in!" Me: "Hey, you can't be 'we', we are 'we'" Them: "Fine, 'Us' won't let you in!" Me: "Then We must kill Us!" Them: "Us will destroy We!" Me: "Us will bow before the might of We, CHARGE!" Battle ensues, and we win. |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe06-06-05, 11:04 PM | Motely Crew. :P |
| kam_Islash06-06-05, 11:24 PM | I havent officially announced it yet, but if anyone asks us who we are....I'll have no choice. See we're basically trying to save the life of Ra and prevent the world from being plunged into darkness. As we are warriors striving to preserve the light, it makes us The Light Warriors! /// |
| The Man from Uncle06-06-05, 11:37 PM | I am currently about to join the 'Guild of Fortuitous Deeds' or just the 'GFD'. Basically they are mercenaries who have been lucky enough to get a, wholly undeserved, reputation as stalwart heroes. Their leader is an arrogant, womanising, self-important, completely unscrupulous, cowardly, liar call Harry Flashman. His number two is a rather naive, but easily bribed, self-preserving wizard call Hilikus Brinsen. Apart from that they have a gang of employees (rescued slaves mostly) who work for a virtual pittance on their boat, the 'HMS Floaty Boaty'. They have had a few adventurers come and go, but so far only these 2 have survived. They are currently looking for a replacement frontline fighter and someone capable of healing. They already know that I plan to bring in a 'chav' bard and they don't think he will last 1 session. |
| Skaughtisch06-07-05, 12:03 AM | The all female party that always seems to show up where the PCs are in my current campaign is called "The Blooded Hart" which I think has a very nice ring to it. In a previous campaign our party was lead by a Bard and we all had musical instrument non-weapon proficiencies (this was 2nd Ed, of course). We were known as "Bowen Laney and the Pot o' Gold Players". My character once criticaly hit a town guard with a guitar. Had to repay the guitarist of course. After one scooby doo induced comment by our DM, one of our parties came to be called "Those Meddling Kids". We kept joking that we'd get a carriage and paint it psychodelic colors. laters, Skaught |
| Super Guy06-07-05, 12:37 AM | I usually try to convince everyone in the party with any character I am playing to let us be called "The Nasty Crew" Despite the fact that the campaigns are typically good/neutral. Still, good fun. Half of us are desperate proponents for the name, half love to hate it. |
| Draco Strang06-07-05, 12:45 AM | No one's mentioned Order of the Stick? Gah.....amateurs. |
| Thorak06-07-05, 01:43 AM | Mrs. Goodbody's Happy Fun-Time Band. Preferably when every member is at least chaotic or evil, if not both. Or, my personal favourite, which always seem to end up getting tagged to parties I play with; Crazy Bastards; "Didja hear that some folks are gonna try and kill that dragon that's been harassing us for centuries?" "How many idiots have died trying to kill that beast?" "Yeah, well, we got another bunch. Crazy bastards, the lot of'em." |
| Deflare06-07-05, 04:02 AM | My pet name is the Band of the Phoenix; it's especially good for a campaign in which the characters go through some dramatic moment that redefines them, of if they're somehow working for or with a phoenix. Other, more humorous ideas: The Madmen of (insert homeland of group here). The Drunken Bastards. The King's Roaming Jesters. The Blazing Idiots. The Lucky SoB's. The Roaming Chaos. ...And so on. |
| Black Kitten06-07-05, 04:32 AM | Ehm... we once had a discussion around our party and I believe since we were only kept together (and kept from getting killed) by a weak character (my cleric of Sune), we called ourselves 'IKEA'. Other names? - Mystra's Rejects - League of Not-So-Extraordinary Gentlemen - The Pink Riders - The slightly reddish Pseudodragons? - The apprentices of the no-so-very-round table |
| liquidfilth06-07-05, 04:36 AM | "Frog in a Frog Productions" We were a travelling group of performers somehow conned into investigating the moathouse (in the Temple of Elemental Evil module). When we were ambushed by the giant frogs, one of them swallowed our rogue/hustler whole. Another, larger and particularly ravenous frog accidentally landed it's tongue on that frog that had just swallowed our rogue... and decided to swallow it anyway. After this horror ended (with the rogue somehow surviving), we thought it appropriate to name our performance troupe after the frogs that would haunt us for the rest of our days (until most of us were killed in the Earth Elemental room). |
| Otaku Ashram06-07-05, 07:31 AM | In the game I DM, the party calls themselves Roscoe's Replacements, since Roscoe (the halfling rogue) is the only original character left. |
| MarkB06-07-05, 11:33 AM | If your party has a clear leader, try for something nicely alliterative based on his name, like "Tammal's Troubleshooters". Then again, when our group joined the Adventurers' Guild and were asked for a group name, none of us could agree on a name, until I eventually suggested "Adventurers Incorporated". That name stuck. I even had business cards printed up. |
| Tegarius06-07-05, 01:41 PM | My group once had a party of two humans and two halflings, so we called it "2 + 2/2" |
| eudas06-07-05, 01:53 PM | Our group calls ourselves the Order of Collateral Damage. Mainly, we liked the "OCD" (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) joke. eudas |
| dngnb806-07-05, 02:03 PM | The best group I ever adventured with The Band of the Green Hand Its been so long, I forgot how we got our name. |
| DracoDM0106-07-05, 02:40 PM | I think the best name of a party is the Silver Sword Guild. It is not because it is cool, but we had just come back from a dungeon to sell loot. So the bard says, "I think ill tell a story about what we did." Then the DM asks what she calls us. She says the Silver Sword Guild. There is only one problem, no one in the party uses a sword let alone a silver one. |
| OpheliaWhispers06-07-05, 03:51 PM | One of my current parties is called: The Red Dragons. Because earlier on in our adventure we killed a very yound red dragon that had been eating up all of the sheep and so forth from the neighboring village. We made a pit filled with nasty spikes, someone ( I think it was me) went out as bait, and lured the dragon there, and just before he could take off and fly over the concealed pit I did Tasha's Hideous Laughter on him and he rolled into the pit. After a few close encounters with it's head, any many an arrow loosed he was dead. After that we have been wearing cloaks made of his hide, one person even has a cod piece made of one of the horns! We chide him about this at EVERY game, rest assured! But anyways that is how we got the name the Red Dragons. By killing a young Red and wearing his hide for ornamental use. |
| Rim-Soulfang06-07-05, 04:26 PM | To counter "The Light Warriors" we're a party of Ninja-pirate-temple-raiders known as "The Dark Warriors". |
| Thanatos0206-07-05, 05:02 PM | My group once had a party of two humans and two halflings, so we called it "2 + 2/2" Wouldn't this actually be "2 + (2/2)" ? You should just start calling yourself "3" We had a group in Ravenloft called the "Matera Bay Huntsman". We were pretty much cobbled together as fodder to help keep the 'evil' population down, but it turned out we were working for a vampire trying to knock off the Kargatane and other nastys in order to make himself safe from predation. Craziest group that ever worked. A sad-sack drunken woodsman who'd seen his village destroyed, a lunatic halfling with a pair of handaxes, a reclusive elven weapon collector, and a fantastically morbid wizard. I can't believe we made it out of any adventure, but we were surprisingly successful. |
| wereooze06-07-05, 05:12 PM | Former adventuring parties.... Team Evil The Lesion of Doom (very few people caught this) The Nine Skullcrunchers Orc Slayers Inc. (naturally, there were very few orc encounters. Stupid DM with a bitter sense of irony) |
| mvincent06-07-05, 05:18 PM | Wouldn't this actually be "2 + (2/2)" ? You should just start calling yourself "3"I think Tegarius meant for it to be spoken: "Two and two-halves" |
| feartheinvinceblehamster06-07-05, 05:18 PM | domato's delvers it had to be said...anyway, i have one: We The Fildarians figure out that abbrieviation... |
| mvincent06-07-05, 05:37 PM | Some other names: The Nine Life Stealers The Iron Band The Fallen Eight (i.e. the infinity symbol) The Allied Countries Regional Organization for National and Inter-national Militia (A.C.R.O.N.I.M.) The Staff of the Magi |
| Callista06-07-05, 05:41 PM | Disciples of Entropy (there were a lot of explosions...) |
| azoun06-07-05, 05:56 PM | Company of the Forgotten Star. Compagnie de l'Etoile Oubliée in french :king: |
| Tegarius06-07-05, 06:51 PM | I think Tegarius meant for it to be spoken: "Two and two-halves" That's exactly what i meant. |
| Radin Of The Justice06-07-05, 07:13 PM | we call oursevles The Warriors of Ragnarok. |
| Dave Stebbins06-07-05, 09:04 PM | The PC group in our campaign is known as The Guardians. In an early adventure we were given a child of prophecy and told to take him away and raise him in secret for he would play an important role in the world's future. The only downside was that we received the child at the end of the adventure, far past midnight when we were all so tired we were slap-happy. So we ended up grabbing onto the first amusing name for the child which was proposed. Therefore, the full name of the group is, officially, The Guardians of Testiclees. |
| braindead34506-08-05, 04:51 AM | I used to play in a RIFTs group called the Lemmings. We also played D&D but we never bothered to name our D&D party. I guess it was still the Lemmings. Our style of play was fast and unstoppable, like lemmings running towards the cliffs-with pretty much the same results. |
| LosGunD06-08-05, 11:11 PM | I'm always fond of the Black Rose Society... |
| Flushmaster06-09-05, 12:01 AM | After that we have been wearing cloaks made of his hide, one person even has a cod piece made of one of the horns! One of my characters took a personal grudge against a red dragon (attempting to go mano-a-draco can be, as she learned, a bad idea). After finally convincing the rest of the party to go back and help her kill it she made a thong from its face. And after all the stuff that they do and say and as much as they should by now expect from me, they actually looked at me in shock, disgust, humor, and awe all at once. The group in the game I'm currently DMing doesn't have a name, but I'm gonna drop a hint via NPC that any self respecting bandit gang such as themselves should have a name...it should be interesting to see what they come up with. |
| Unleash06-09-05, 01:07 AM | In one of the games I run (based in Cauldron, the first Adventure Path in the Dungeon Magazine Series), my players chose the following name for their party: Underearth Stonefinders What's surprising is that none of them are dwarves, they all have 13ish INT scores and only 1 of 'em likes old, burried things: my gf's gnomish bard/archeologist. As a side note, anything she climbs on comes to life... |
| Maerdash06-09-05, 01:20 AM | In my favorite advenduring group we called ourselves The Order of the White Wolves we were a very "good" group and each had a white wolf somewhere in a personal signet, then we turned on each other in mutually exclusive bids at WORLD DOMINATION! :D |
| ck2001wendt06-09-05, 05:49 AM | -In the campaign I just wrapped, there was a secret order of Monks named the Talons, as they represented the instruments of a Gold Dragon opposing an old foe. The campaign was, unsurprisingly, "The Wrath of the Talons." -The Longstriders. We were from all over Toril, had a Travel Cleric and two other members who could Teleport out of 6 total). -An MI6-esque organization called "The King´s Men." |
| digoraccoon06-09-05, 08:37 AM | My players in my current D&D campaign are known as the "SDMC Company" for their effective methods of not only killing BBEGs, but destroying the villian's lair/hideout/castle/etc with a very enlightening display of firepower. SDMC = Same Damn Mushroom-shaped Cloud. The running joke they use when separated is to look for the distant mushroom shaped nuclear blast on the horizon that signals where the other half of the team is. This has worked several times in dungeons too (don't ask how, even I don't know). They're actually sought after by mining towns looking for "Demolition Experts" to rid caverns of nasty creatures. :) They're still trying to figure out who came up with their name. In an old group I was in, I had jokingly named us "Team Dysfunctional" because we would spend 20-30 minutes coming up with a plan and then everything BUT the plan. This often ended up in accomplishing our goal, a bit by collateral damage and injuring half the party. :D |
| Starstuff06-09-05, 11:21 PM | In a 1E campaign from years past, we had 'Dave & Bob's Famous Ranger Correspondence School.' There was no Dave. There was no Bob. It was not famous. You cannot study to be a Ranger by correspondence. In 1E, you could never have more than 3 Rangers together at the same time (something about implosion of the universe or spontaneous gangrene, I'm not certain), hence there could be no school. Later, a member of the group drew up invitations to the school and mailed them anonymously to everyone in the group. *Star* |
| Black Kitten06-10-05, 04:17 AM | Wouldn't this actually be "2 + (2/2)" ? You should just start calling yourself "3" No, you can write it as (2 + 2/2), since mathematical dividing 2 by 2 is resolved before adding 2/2 to 2. So, you would calculate 2/2 + 2 in that sequence anyway. |
| GreatEye06-17-05, 01:07 PM | We finally came up with a name! The Order of Fortune This works for us because the dual meaning of the words fits so well with the differing aspects of the party's deities (Order= group, law; Fortune = good luck, wealth) |
| WolfSong06-17-05, 01:30 PM | TOok a lot of work for our group but we are Midnight Steel |
| RogerWilco06-17-05, 02:18 PM | Sun and Moon Guardians |
| HypnoticMonk06-18-05, 01:30 PM | We had an all Lawful Good group who called themselves The Holy Alliance. (Pretentious? Just a bit...) |
| hazel monday06-19-05, 02:46 AM | this may be the most useful thread i've actually ever seen on these here boards. now i can have a list of doomed npc parties that never came back from the next dungeon i send my players into. my favorites from my games damage control jiff and the choosy mothers the league the iron flag brothers dolokhov and the damned |
| Lyinginbedmon06-19-05, 12:28 PM | The Dead-Nicks The name was taken from the original Dead-Nicks, usually referred to as the Mortuss-Abigo, of which only three members remain alive, Morina Stormcrow (Half-Pheonix Rogue), Morganth Stormcrow (Unknown-species Wizard), Silverleaf Halfmoon (Elf Ranger). Recently re-opened by Morganth to pay the rent on the headquarters and stop it from eating up his gold stash. The name comes from a rather constant activity of the first group, whilst the -Nicks comes from another almost constant activity derived from the slang word for 'steal' |
| Koga:The ninja trick06-19-05, 10:37 PM | Team America: World Police. The evil group we were against was dubbed The Film Actors Guild. :P |
| CthulhuRyleh06-20-05, 08:10 PM | What about the Mongooses. the fighting mongoses. thats a good team name. -Fry, of the TV show futurama nawwwww. |
| pertoleum06-20-05, 08:48 PM | were "mike, joe, billy and rodriguez "even tough those arent our names that our "those drunk bastard who just saved your life" |
| Nurgan_the_drunked06-21-05, 05:40 AM | The Fearsome Foxes: So named because for ages, a fox was the only thing that survived meeting us, and we decided it must be our nemesis. The name kind of stuck. Finders of the Lost: Due to their habit of accidentally discover ancient lost civilisations. |
| cambric06-21-05, 07:53 AM | Way back in 1e, we had our first group called, "Adventures At Large"...the dm's brother came up with it when we were looking for work. It became "AAL" and 25+ years later, the AAL is like the Justice League in the Greyhawk Setting. In 2e, with another group, all the mages focused on the color red, so we came up with "The Crimson Storm"...for the 2 most powerful mages loved to drop fireballs, and later on Meteor Storms. My current group I dm hasn't came with a name yet...so some of these are great ideas that I'll pass on to them. |
| chrisnd06-21-05, 11:40 AM | My group is dubbed "The Bowlers", and I as the DM am aptly named "Lord Bowler". Now, a little background story. My friend, who used to work at the same accounting firm that I do, wanted to get back into D&D when 3rd ed came out back in '99. However, being that we were both stuffy accountants who supposedly don't play geeky "rollplaying" games, we didn't want other stuffy accountants knowing that we were geeks that played Dungeons and Dragons. So instead, as secret code, we would say to each other..."hey, when are we getting together for bowling next?" which really meant "when are we playing D&D again." Bowling was our code-name for D&D. As the DM, I was soon dubbed "Lord Bowler" by one of the other players, and "The Bowlers" became the group name. It really doesn't come up in play very often, but it certainly is a fun story to tell. |
