Hi there. In the D&D game I played last night my character became the subject of a curse by one of the cities crime lords.

The curse is every time a portal is opened, albeit a door, chest, backpack, sack, whatever.. it opens up to a different location somewhere else.

Here's a couple examples of what happened. The first of me finding out was I entered through an open door in a Pyramid Crypt that was layered with poisonous dust, and since I'm playing a Succubus (6th level in the SS progression, CG Alignment [tho I still carry the CE subtype. Think superman raised by ma and pa kent]), I'm immune to poison, so I said I would explore the room, but closed the door behind me so that the poison wouldn't go out and affect the party in the hallway. So once I collected the treasure and defeated the miniscule monster there, I went to open the door and it opened out to a second story window overlooking a street in a city that I'd never been to. Obviously I thought it was an Illusion. But that wasn't the case. The door was opened on my side, leading out a different world, yet where the rest of the party was, the door was closed, and when they tried to open it, it was "jammed." Easy enough, I had telepathy with those within 100 feet, so I communicated to my friends, to let them know what I was experiencing. While for a moment they thought I was off my rocker, they continued the door. So, I shut the door in hopes that trying to open it again would result in seein gmy friends, well. when I shut the door, they were pushing on the other side and once the door on my side closed, their door popped open and they tumbled into the room. No problem, minor problem solved there.

So, I ask them to remain outside, while another party member etnered the room, and closed the door, and I convinced him to open it to see if I've lost it, or if there was only one way to open the door correctly (on the other side) otherwise it would lead somewhere else. So, he opened it, and saw the party out in the hallway. Now most of the party is convinced I'm crazy, so the mage casts detect magic and notices that I have some sort of spell (aside from the poly self I have up constantly since I dont wanna walk around looking like a demon), and figures I'm under the influence of some sort of Illusion spell thats affecting only me. So, to test, I close the door again, and open it, and reveal that it opens back to the town, from a second story vantage. Now, I'm not the only one seeing this. So the Djinn we have in our party, flies out the window, and flies around the town a little bit, and sure enough, its a portal to a different area of the world. One which we guess, when the door was opened it opened a shuttered window at a Inn somehwere in a town we learned to be "New Haven." So, the party regroups, and on a whim I check the bag where I stuffed the loot from the room in, and sure enough, there's defenitely not the rest of the sack on the otherside of the drawstring, I'm looking at a floor, where this guy is picking up this money, treasure and goods off his floor. After yelling at him that is was my loot, he ran off freaked, and we rather figured out that I was cursed, since I remember spells being used against me by the Crime Lord.

So, I began checking everything in sight that could possibly act like a portal. Found bags of money, stuff various items beloning in other people's bags around the world One bag turned out to be someone else's bag of devouring, which was almost scary. One door in the dungeon led to a tavern in another random small city, so I decided to get a drink while I was there, making sure no one closed the door behind me (since we found out that depending on which side of the door you are on, it will open to a different place).. but while in the tavern, I opened a window just to be curious, and it turned out to be a chest in a dragons hoard, I managed to get out of the tavern before the dragon blew its breath weapon (don't know if there were really any casualities).

But obviously thats the curse part of the curse.

Now, don't get me wrong. I like the curse from a player and GM standpoint. I found it to be a really fun idea, out of character, but in character I don't know whether to try and seek a cure for this, or keep it, since it seems that its not always a bad effect, and the destinations of the portals don't change once they are assigned to a particular door or item. Now, to get stuff out of my own bags, I have to let others in the party do it for me. But is this really a hindering thing, as long as I have a friend with me. Yes it could get very bad, once I open that underwater doorway which floods the area and be almost impossible to close the door once water rushes in, or something simular to that affect.

But would this be something you a a player got rid of right away? I'm just tempted to take "craft door" and find a wand or something that shrinks item. in several levels as a succubus I will have Teleport w/o error at will, and I already have Clairvoyance/Clairaudiance at will... so I don't need to open doors, just see whats on the other ide of the door, and teleport in (provided its not dangerous and its not dead magic zone). I'm just tempted to keep this thing around. It makes an interesitng character quirk, and who knows what you could find on the other side of the doors. Thats true Monty Hall! ::grins::

Any thoughts?

Nothing to add really. Just give your GM a cookie for me for coming up with a creative curse. :)
