| HerbalTea02-07-06, 09:01 AM | I will keep it short and simple: What is your favourite prestige class out of all of those that are official? By official, I mean those that have been released in books (the assassin, the red wizard etc). Just wondering.... |
| Illithid1302-07-06, 09:19 AM | Illithid Slayer... I love psionics, it gives you full BAB, 9/10 Manifester level, and essentially what can be called selective mind block. IMO, it just doesn't get better than that. |
| Funes the Memorious02-07-06, 09:48 AM | Arcane Trickster... but its more of a personal playstyle thing than being the out and out "Greatest". |
| The White Sorcerer02-07-06, 10:01 AM | At the moment, dracolexi. Mostly because the picture is adorable. ^_^ |
| FinisofLife02-07-06, 11:09 AM | The Acrobat Thief. Its just fun to climb and flip around and rob people  |
| serow_#R02-07-06, 12:17 PM | i like a lot of them, but one of my favs is the elocater simply bcoz the sample elocater looks pretty cool :D |
| Suzaku45502-07-06, 12:20 PM | Mage of Arcane Order! spell pool rocks for Sorcerer ^^ |
| Otto the Bugbear02-07-06, 12:25 PM | Hrm. How about one per "archtype"? Melee - Dervish - just because I've really been into agile, athletic, mobile fighter type lately. Arcane - Fiend-Blooded - granted, there are requirement issues, but it's still pretty cool. Skilly - Thief-Acrobat - Too fun. Plus, it fits nicely with the agile, athletic, mobility type too. Divine - Radiant Servant of Pelor - It just doesn't get more cleric-y than this guy. Cheers Otto :) |
| Radin Of The Justice02-07-06, 03:40 PM | Favorite: Ghost Walker Next: Bear Warrior Next: Holy Liberator Next: Dervish Now if we might include a semi-almost-kinda-not realy-but still a presteige class id have to say Halfing Rock Skipper |
| Rhomphaia02-07-06, 04:57 PM | I will second the Ghostwalker. An awesome class I would have loved to have seen get a 3.5 update. Anyway, for 3.5 classes, I do like the Dragon Disciple for flavor (though I think they should have a celestial and fiendish equivilent to the class) and for sheer power, I love the Mystic Theurge. |
| Gaia02-07-06, 05:39 PM | I love the Initiate of the Order of the Bow. It's great for archers. |
| Crash16902-07-06, 06:08 PM | Kensai- Awesome to roleplay, and one hell of a crazy weapon. Master Thrower - I love palm throw, it's just cool |
| kraegor02-07-06, 07:29 PM | Warhulk... its so sickening that its beautiful. |
| Vaelan02-07-06, 08:49 PM | Melee: Chameleon (competence bonuses to attack rolls and damage are hard to get) Skill: Chameleon (Able Learner) Arcane: Chameleon (CL 20 at level 15, access to all spell lists) Divine: Chameleon (CL 20 at level 15, access to all spell lists) |
| akiir02-07-06, 09:02 PM | hmm i like the.......fleshwarper from lords of madness |
| ressurrector02-07-06, 09:43 PM | I like: Invisible blade, rogues can fight too, and feint isn't used enough. Enlightened Fist, Cool concept, fun abilities (picture sucks though) Ghostwalker (from 3.0) very cool concept, and very powerfull abilities that the DM can't complain about (cause he has full controll over if they can be used). |
| TheChilliGod02-07-06, 10:46 PM | The Whisperknife, from Races of the Wild. For 3 reasons: 1) Halflings are awesome. Don't you ever diss halflings. 2) If you take this PrC at level 6 (the earliest you can meet all pre-reqs) then by 14th level (8 lvls Whisperknife) you're potentially attacking with 4 ranged attacks in a round, all with potential sneak attack damage of at least 4d6 each, and potentially with 2 doses worth of poison, and potentially with stunning capability. That's one whopper of an opening attack. 3) The Whisperknife is like an assassin for halflings of all alignments, and assassins are awesome. |
| j_gunder02-08-06, 02:29 AM | The Hammer of Moradin, out of the Player's Guide to Faerun. Takes a while to get into, and kills spell progression for clerics, but has a host of spell-like abilities and fun combat tactics...and I have always been a fan of the dwarf charging in, sending bodies everywhere. I especially like the ability that allows him to throw his hammer and have it effect everyone in a line, like lightning bolt...awesome image. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs02-08-06, 03:41 AM | Oooh, tough call. Frenzied Berserker is awesome - take the meanest, craziest core class and make it meaner and crazier - but the strength of a Warhulk to pick up a wagon and beat fools over the head with it is extremely cool as well. (I could watch an angry Bruce Banner rip the turret off a tank and beat the hell out of another tank with it all day, btw. :w00t: ) I like the classes equally and would take both any time I could get 'em. But if I must choose one............. Frenzied Berserker. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/cw_ag/75409.jpg   She can rape, loot and pillage me any day. |
| Sybill02-08-06, 12:04 PM | I second the frenzied berserker vote. They're so much to play, so long as the party wizard keeps a ton of hold person scrolls on him. |
| Vacerious02-08-06, 12:15 PM |  She can rape, loot and pillage me any day. :heehee my favorite PrC has got to be Archmage. Especially when you haven't told the rest of the party that you've selected the "Mastery of Shaping" secret. Fighter: Hey, we could use some arcane support over here!! Wizard: I cast a fireball right *puts finger on graph right beside fighter's mini* there. Fighter: WHAT?! NOT THERE!! YOU'LL GET ME KILLED!! DM: You sure about that, Wizard? Wizard: Absolutely. *Whispers something to DM* Fighter: OMG!! DM: Fighter, as you see a huge orb of flames start to consume the area around you, you duck and cover your eyes. After the sound of the explosion rocks the cavern walls, you open your eyes to find the charred remains of all of your foes. You, however, stand completely unscathed from the blast. Wizard: I took Mastery of Shaping. :D Fighter: You sunnava *****. |
| DMJustbumper02-08-06, 01:48 PM | Here would be my rundown: Melee: Dervish.....Not just for the crazy power, but because i like the concept Arcane: Seeker of the Song......Cant beat it...seriously. Divine: Divine Oricle.....Love the idea of a prophet that can see things before they happen Other: Golem master........from Kingdom of Kalamar PHB, you should really look it up. |
| FiestFan02-08-06, 09:21 PM | I'm a big fan of Pious Templar, but I really like holy warrior types. |
| Ganny.Harper02-10-06, 01:57 AM | Drunken master, there is nothing like getting in a bar brawl with the BBEG and smack him half to death with a beer mug, then drinking the contense of it as you didnt spill a drop of your beer. |
| InterSilva02-10-06, 03:24 AM | Mystic Theurge Planeshifter |
| ressurrector02-10-06, 03:36 AM | Drunken master, there is nothing like getting in a bar brawl with the BBEG and smack him half to death with a beer mug, then drinking the contense of it as you didnt spill a drop of your beer. Drunken master gets my vote as most fun PrC to play as. :D |
| Dhavaer02-10-06, 03:46 AM | Melee: Scarlet Corsair Skill Monkey: Teflammar Shadowlord Arcane: Magelord, assuming you houserule it (It's almost unusable without houserules) Divine: Fochlucan Lyrist. It'd be one of the Shadowbanes if they didn't require you to be evil. |
| The White Sorcerer02-10-06, 01:11 PM | It'd be one of the Shadowbanes if they didn't require you to be evil. If by evil you mean lawful good. |
| Andreas081502-10-06, 01:23 PM | I would go for a Soldier of Light Not anoying but paladinlike Fighter fdw... And that he gets fasthealing helps, too. |
| Father Tim02-10-06, 10:12 PM | Ooozemaster (MotW, 3.0, not yet reprinted for 3.5) Because some days, you just have to yell "Bring on the SLIME!" |
| SilverFoxKnows02-11-06, 12:43 PM | I won't say they're the most powerful but to my mind one of the coolest. |
| Mufflon02-11-06, 01:08 PM | My favorite is whithout a doubt the Incantrix from Player's Guide to Faerun, simply because Metamagic feats rule... And it's ridiculously powerful... |
| Aneul02-11-06, 08:30 PM | Flavor wise, I like the Fochlucan Lyrist a ton. My top three favorites would have to be... -Fochlucan Lyrist -Seaker of the Song (proving that bards CAN kick a**) -Weretouched Master/Elemental Savant tie for third |
| Kiklio02-11-06, 08:40 PM | Constructor from Mind's Eye is crazy cool, in my humble opinion. Nothing like unleashing your own personal army of astral constructs to brighten the day. |
| Kresalak02-11-06, 09:02 PM | For some reason, Ur-Priest is my favorite PrC. Also, it can get sickeningly powerful (CL 59!) with the right build. |
| LCD2YOU02-11-06, 09:19 PM | The best Prestige class, any character class, is one you can play as another individual, and not just yourself in different garb. |
| gamerd0rk02-11-06, 09:49 PM | My all time favorite is the arcane archer, but the shadow dancer isn't far behind. For most powerful, at least for what O've ever seen was the inviible blade. Just take a rogue with far shot, quick draw, and rapid reload. Then use that and all the sneak attack available to throw some daggers like crazy. My frien ddi this once, and he was dishing out about 300 damage a round. |
| Galroth02-11-06, 10:41 PM | My personal favorite is Thrallherd from The Expanded Psionics Handbook, very flavorfull, and not too shabby when it comes to the power curve. |
| stabs02-12-06, 09:45 AM | Fightey: Lasher: Good abilities that a Fighter couldn't otherwise get (Flurry, Crack of Doom) and you can also get Improved Trip and Disarm without picking up Combat Expertise. Goddey: Ur-Priest, though I don't know how to make them powerful, and they're so hard to qualify for. Skilly: Nightsong Enforcer is nice although not overly useful. Good to get full BAB, 4 skill points and 1/3 sneak attack. Spelly: Suel Arcanamech has an awesome name, and seeing as I don't know much about Arcane PrCs I'll have to go with that. |
| Shar_the_Black02-12-06, 09:12 PM | Mystic Theurge, it takes a while to get going, but at higher levels well worth it. A must for fellow magic lovers. :mage: |
| DPStorm02-13-06, 04:37 PM | I'm going to do this in groups.. Arcane: An Elemental Savant at level 10 (of the class)... they're not that great before but once you become an elemental... pwnage :) Divine: Warpriest Skilly: Good ol Assassin, damage eventually just gets insane with the right feats Melee: FRENZIED BERSERKER!! :fight!: Hybrid: Spellsword just because it makes the fighter-arcane caster combo playable :shocked:or Blackguard because I've always liked dark-anti-paladins.. |
| Frodo Lives02-19-06, 03:28 PM | Nothin beats the Archmage. :D Although it helps that you are already a high level caster. ;) |
| Rivelstraz02-23-06, 02:21 PM | I personally like the dervish, the ur-priest and the arachnomancer, too bad arachnomancer's prereq are stupid (arcane class requiring +4 to base fortitude saves...ok) |
| Elbethamore02-23-06, 03:06 PM | Sublime Chord is pretty cool. My next character may be one. I also like the flavor of mindbender, but that's mostly because I'm on an enchantment kick right now. |
| feartheinvinceblehamster02-23-06, 08:45 PM | frenzied berserker and warhulk for my fighters. I dunno the others yet. |
| Crimson_Concerto02-23-06, 09:18 PM | Alienist Ashworm Dragoon Fleshwarper Coolest Concepts EVAR! :D |
| Sianger02-23-06, 09:45 PM | Go Frenzied Berserker!!! :D I agree with some others here that the Ghostwalker concept was really cool. It needs to be resurrected. But FB is still the coolest. And while not the most powerful, 80+ damage on a single hit at non-munchkin level 16 is quite crazy. |
| Dench03-01-06, 03:35 PM | Alienist, definitly... after that I guess Dervish make a good choice. |
| Nephew of Istvan03-01-06, 11:13 PM | Seeker of the Song is a great prestiege class for Bards, but there is one better. The Sublime Chord prestiege class from Complete Arcane (Page 60). Imagine: A Bard with the arcane might of a Sorcerer, but still having a fairly good BAB and a d6 hit die instead of the d4 Sorcerer's get. Plus, you get all the Bard songs from 1st to 10th level (Inspire Courage +2, Inspire Competance, Inspire Greatness, Fascinate, Suggestion), and the wonderful Sublime Chord songs. Song of Arcane Power can, in the hands of a competant bard, boost your caster level for spells by +4. The Song of Timelessness is situational, completly removing one target from combat, and the song of Arcane Fire is a nice Explode song. The only things you lose are stuff like the upper level Inspire Heroics song, a few skill points per level, and Use Magic Device is no longer a class skill :weep:. However, access to 4th-9th level Socerer/Wizard or Bard spells is a major boost (Hello Nightstalker and Tenser's Transformation! Don't hate, Enervate!) that i feel more than makes up for what you lose from not being a Bard anymore. |
| Denihilist03-02-06, 12:49 AM | I know it's no the most powerful and the cost feels a little high... but what other class allows a player to have the following moment: DM: Torgar puts all of his rage behind this massively crushing blow dealing... Player: Stop. DM: What? Player: You need to re-roll that You can tell the DM or anyone else to re-roll |
| GreatWyrm03-02-06, 01:25 AM | Which book is the warhulk in? |
| Draco Strang03-02-06, 01:41 AM | Fochlucan Lyrist is pretty wicked awesome due to all the options it gives you. I'm a fan. It's got a lot of options built in. |
| phelanarcetus03-02-06, 09:59 AM | PrCs I love: Archmage: sure it costs you a few spell slots... but boosting your CL, Mastery of Shaping, Mastery of Elements (sonic substituted everything!), and then you've got some choices. Arcane Fire if you worry about having the wrong spells handy, or pick something you cast all the time and make it an SLA. Loremaster: if you're a wizard, this costs basically nothing, and the benefits are quite nice. One skill focus feat, and any three metamagic or item creation. Well as a Wizard, you start with Scribe Scroll to cover one of them, at 5th level you have to spend a feat that qualifies towards this, and sure, you blow a feat on Skill Focus, but you just take the Secret that gives you a bonus feat to replace that. So it costs two feats, one of which will be useful, and one of which will be junk... but you can essentially replace it. And the three Secrets for +2 to each save. Add in Lore, and Identify and Legend Lore... very very nice for the brainiacs. Kensai: I haven't gotten a chance to run with this yet, but it feels like a lot of fun. Dervish: Constantly in motion making attacks... sounds like fun to me. Due to investigate a different path into it than I have previously, though. Champion of Gwynharf (or whatever the name is): Sure, it's exalted, but it's pretty sweet. Tons of power added for a Barbarian with some self-buffing, and it doesn't have those annoying drawbacks of the Frenzied Berserker, like the risk of killing your party. |
| moriarty1303-02-06, 11:24 AM | Dervish is really fun. I'm playing a thrallherd soon and they seem REALLY fun (since you can play any other character you want with 24 hours of game time to spare and a friendly DM:)). Sublime Chord / Ur-priest / Arcane Hierophant / Fochlucan Lyrist. There MUST be a way to combine all that power and get +16 BAB and 9th level wizard and cleric spells. There just has to be a way! :) |
| Dragen White03-02-06, 12:04 PM | WARSHAPER definatly, rediculously low level accesability, and insane powers, immune to crits, damge increase, etc. |
| Addimarchus03-02-06, 12:32 PM | i love these PrC: Warshaper-Complete Warrior-i have found new ways to tick off my DM with lycanthropes that are immune to illithid mind blasts!) Siren-Savage Species-i had a Sirine character (monster manual 2) and eventuslly her singing was so bad it would kill people! (song of death ability) Bear Warrior-Complete Warrior-yay for Beorn (from The Hobbit) like characters! Scaled Horror-Savage Species-this really ticked off my DM when i played my Lizardman character a while ago! Emancipated Spawn-Savage Species-what could go wrong with a human shade/16th level sorcerer/emancipated spawn? |
| JungeonJeff03-02-06, 03:44 PM | From personal taste: Forsaker (3.0 MastersOfTheWild) Occult Slayer (3.5 CompleteWarrior) ..and preferebly in combination  |
| Fanged Fremont03-02-06, 05:22 PM | 3.0 Loves me the Lasher. Gots style and utility. Mixed with the 3.5 whip makes it all the better. 3.5 Shadowcraft Mage. Because I'm a gnome illusionist at heart. |
| cypherx03-02-06, 06:19 PM | definitely any class that combines 2 or even 3 different "+1 caster level" i saw one that had divine, arcane, and psionic caster levels. never would allow any in my campeigns accept for true necromancer. |
| Asciiman03-03-06, 03:20 AM | Shadow Dancer. Purely for the flavor and I have yet to find another prestige class that lends itself to a better Liutenant of the BBEG. |
| Chimaera200003-03-06, 01:12 PM | Ever since I read Oriental Adventures, I've been in love with the Iaijutsu Master. Since we're going by category... Combat: The Pyrokineticist from the Expanded Psionics Handbook looks really, really fun. The Blackguard is a long-time favorite as well, particularly with the bad*** 3.5 illustration. Skills: Assassin, since you get versatility from spells, power from sneak attack, and a smug satisfaction that knowing that you have a death attack up your sleeve. Divine: I liked the Contemplative for a number of years. Arcane: I love the Archmage, as I'd gladly sacrifice spell slots for loads of cool options. |
| RogerWilco03-03-06, 02:47 PM | Arcane Hierophant, with Fochlucan Lyrist as second best. My builds with them: * Druid4/Diviner1/DivOracle2/ArcaneHierophant10/Whatever3 but at what level the AH should get Wildshape is unclear, see my signature. * Ranger9/Druid1/Bard2/FochlucanLyrist8 |
| Elemental03-03-06, 06:15 PM | Arcane: Initiatie of the Sevenfold Veil. The defensive and battlefield control abilities are excellent, and it's even better against foes who aren't smart enough not to run through the green-and-violet wall on their way to tear you in half. Everyone underestimates the Abjurers. Divine: Sacred Fist. The cleric and monk have a good synergy, and the class makes them work well together, and adds some additional options. And besides, you get to do the Smite + Stunning Fist + held charge Plane Shift. Punch your enemy so hard that they get knocked into another dimension! Rogue: Invisible Blade. This one does what PrC's should--takes a suboptimal strategy (fighting with daggers and feinting) and makes it competent and lethal. Shadowbane Stalker is a close second--proof that LG doesn't mean "Frontal assault in broad daylight!". Fighter: Planar Champion. It's old, but it's weathered well. This one hits the mark for me--it feels like a good 'step up' from the fighter, and the sort of role that high-level characters would naturally lean towards. Plus, you can beat up incorporeal and ethereal enemies who thought they were safe from the dumb fighter, you'll never get ambushed or spied on by an invisible foe or arcane eye, and later on, you can go ethereal and plane shift the group without needing to depend on the wizard and cleric. Psionic: Psion Uncarnate. Being incorporeal is excellent protection from just about anything, you can take your stuff with you, and you get to brag about how you are a creature of pure intellect, above the fleshy concerns of lesser beings. Monstrous: Lurking Terror. Short and sweet. Deathly Power is good for creatures with multiple supernatural attacks like a Vampire or Ghost, and it's the easiest way to get Hide in Plain Sight, which is entertaining when it's combined with a smoky room and Spring Attack. :) |
| WhiteRaven81003-04-06, 12:06 AM | Martial: Tattoo Monk. Arcane: Red Wizard, Archmage is a close second. Wilderness: Nature's Warrior. Divine: A split tie between Pious Templar and the Void Disciple. Rogue: Master Thrower seems cool (note I haven't studied alot of stealth-based classes). Story: Eye of Gruumsh. Best Prestige Build: Eye of Gruumsh and Exotic Weapon Master. |
| MadApe1903-04-06, 11:16 AM | Hrm. I've got an awful lot  Melee - Forsaker, King of the Wild, Bloodhound, Hunter of the Dead, Disciple of Mephistopheles(only in worlds where Mephistopheles exists, of course) Arcane - Alienist, Fatespinner Skilly - Pfft. Gatecrasher? I usually like the rogue and bard classes for very tricksy folk. Divine - Master of Radiance, Sacred Exorcist, Ur-Priest Blend - Spellsword, Arcane Trickster, Geomancer, Blackguard(putting it here because it seems a bit of both melee and magic) A lot of them aren't all that great power-wise, but I usually go for flavor over ability. :) |
| Bryarr03-04-06, 09:24 PM | The fact that I'm always DM should be taken into consideration when reading my post. Arcane (If using Heroes of Horror and that book's taint rules): Tainted Scholar. If you maximize your wisdom, and actively seek to get high levels of depravity, your number of spells becomes obscene. I've built a nonspecialized wiz5/tainted scholar 7 with 20 wisdom and spells per day of 4/9/9/9/6/6/5. The "down-side" is that he was crazy as a loon. :D Arcane (if not): Red Wizard Divine: Runecaster Sneaky-types: high level Assassin Flavor: Ur-Priest I don't have any stong preferences for fighter type PrCs Bry |
| CryoSilver03-04-06, 09:34 PM | Shadowbane Inquisitor; a paladin that can actually do what needs to be done to fight evil. |
| Flaming Axe03-05-06, 07:47 PM | Mine would be: Arcane Initiatie of the Sevenfold Veil - because everyone loves the Rainbow user of DOOM Divine Bone Knight - some pretty cool stuff, goes great with a CHA build Sneaky Teleflammar Shadowlord - good times, good times Fighter FB - because its FB Others Master Thrower, Knight Phantom, and the Chameleon |
| DevilJimmy03-07-06, 02:33 PM | Can't believe noone mentioned this. Is one of the most unique PrC's out there...and very cool. Another that left an impression on me was in a non-reg book..it was Immovable Rod Master...now that was cool...pretty inovative as far as the different uses for the immovable rod and the deadly ways it was capable of inflicting pain. |
