I've recently joined a new group. I'm some time away from them, being about half hour to fourty five minutes away from them. My car just broke down, so I can't even get there.
I'm supposed to be writing a character background, but I'm having problem with my race. The Grey Elves. I already have my character fit in with the champain and by class. I just need to know basic things about the grey elves so I can get a feel for what he left behind. What his home was like.
Getting this information will increase my roleplaying of my character. This will increase my value as a player and my skills. Please help me.

Like a regular elf, only snottier. :)

Thank you.

Thats pretty basic, I'm looking for more about their culture specifics, how they differ from other elves. Enough information so I have a flavor for it. If I played it snottier I woudl just seem like a noble elf of some sort.

In all fairness, being snottier would be the single largest difference in the cultures. Also, increase you xenophobia and ACTIVELY, not passively, show your disdain for those who arnt grey elves. Stick to your "racial nationalism" almost like nazis, as in you see the other races kind of like they saw the other peoples i.e. worthless and fit only to serve the chosen group.

Grey elves are like high elves... but anything bad about them is ten times worst. More arrogant.. More stuck up... More intolerant... Then again, being a kobold, i might not be a fair judge.

I made a Gray Elf Mystic Theurge before. He was a great character who was obsessed with knowledge and magic and the like. However, he was possibly the most arrogant character I ever played.

He was aristocratic, to be sure, looking down on most people (it was also a low-magic campaign, so my abilities to weild both arcane and divine magic made my guy's ego swell). He had issues with a half-orc ranger who he was contracted to work with. One time the two had an arguement because the ranger didn't like the fact that the elf was an arrogant jerk who assumed he was in charge of the group. The elf called him something along the lines of "an unlucky soul spolied by bad blood, and that no matter what he could say or do, he'd always be a filthy orc-blooded half-breed."

The ranger didn't take a liking to that and threated to knock the wimpy elf's head off if he ever insulted him again.

So, my character hired a bodyguard/hired muscle to attack the ranger if I decided that things got out of hand. It never really did, but we did have a cool new fighter follow us around for some time.

Anyhoo.... I believe Grey Elves live in secluded mountain areas, isolating themselves from the rest of the world to study magic and what-not.

Hopes that helped... somewhat.

This gives me an interesting idea: You could play it as a nazi, on purpose.
Just make it your goal to purify the Elven Race by systematic destruction of 'unter-elves'. Of course, Half-Elves are the worst scum existant. Other races are like animals: You tolerate them, because they are animals and thus don't know any better.
Call yourself Gritler or something. It's a shame that Gray Elves don't grow facial hair. :D

This thread is going ALL the wrong places.

That said, this would make an awesome idea for a campaig (either for or against the elf-nazis)

For would be difficult, since all party members should be grey-elves then. 4 wizards. :D

My bad, I didn't remember the exact spelling of Baum. Since I thought it was Baume, it was likely to be a female word. :)
And, are you sure it's Elfe? Not Elf?

Or you could be a party of dwarven heroes trying to stop the elf-nazis, while drinking as much beer as possible in the process.

This gives a new meaning to Beer Hall Putsch.

I tend to think of them as sort of akin to Vulcans from Star Trek...rather aloof
and unemotional. Of course with the negative physical stat modifiers, they're
not as tough as what a Vulcan would be if statted out in D&D. In fact, I once
had a home brew campaign where I changed the environment entry for Gray
Elves to desert from mountain. That's kust my take on them, though.
