My DM is talking about transplanting our party to Greyhawk. I don't have any information about this campaign world, but don't have any money for buying campaign settings either... is there a site where I could get basic information about the setting? I'm making a new character to replace my last (retired) one, and I just need to know enough to write a short (1-page) backstory. Maybe WOTC has a site somewhere on Greyhawk?...

Everything that's in the Core rulebooks but isn't in the SRD. That's Greyhawk.

Like the names of the spells--"Floating Disk" instead of "Tenser's Floating Disk"?

Most of what the differences seem to be, to me, are flavor things... the names of spells, the descriptions of monsters (the SRDs just have the stats), et cetera... is that what you mean?

If so, then how is Greyhawk different from the generic D&D?

It's not. Some people will say it is, but Core D&D is assumed to be in Greyhawk.

From what I've heard, Greyhawk is supposed to be a meaner environment. That's where they reccomend a higher point-buy.

Anyway, other than that, dunno what to tell you. Where are you transplanting FROM? Make a character for that game world, who gets caught up with the party that gets transporter?

Look into Living Greyhawk too. RPGA uses the Greyhawk setting, so all the maps and stuff are the same. There is a Living Greyhawk section here at Wizards, from there I'm sure you can get links to regional web sites, maps, setting descriptions, etc.

The Greyhawk Gazetteer is only 20 bucks I think, and you can get it most anywhere. It's a thin paperback supplement that does a fair job of explaining the world. In addition, there are a trillion websites online that have good Greyhawk info.
