In my group it seems that I'm the only one who will play a sorceror, wizard, druid, cleric, etc.

everyone wants to play the melee, ranged, stealth and not the casters. what should i do to "make" them want to.

it gets a little boring to play clerics and sorcer/wizs everytime. yes i am very good with them, but dang it, once in a while i wanna play a fighter or better yet a paladin.

i will make another thread for the paladin......

You could just... not play a caster. There's nothing in the rules that says you have to have a certain party composition.

Tell them what you want to be before any one of them gets to decide what they will be, they will then have to fight amongst themselves who plays the caster.

It may help to start your campaigns at a higher level, like 3rd-6th. While the caster classes easily become more powerful and versatile than their counterparts, the idea of playing a wizard with 6 hit points that can cast Magic Missile twice a day isn't very exciting. But I'd definitely be a lot more exciting to play a wizard starting at 6th level, where you're already building up a solid arsenal of spells.

the starting at low levels really isnt a bother, when i play a pc i WANT to start at lvl 1.

its just that either they hate the casters, or they dont know how to.

i say learn through trial and error

I agree with this.

Also Drodain's suggestion too, if it is an issue that a party has to have a certain composition:

You don't have to play a caster. I have a group without one right now, and they're having a great time.

If you're the only one who feels there needs to be a caster, then try being more open-minded about what's needed in a group, and go and play what you want.

If the other players are trying to force you into the caster role, saying that the party needs one, tell them to play the caster, and go and play what you want.

This is, of course, if it bothers you enough to change what you're doing. I enjoy playing casters, so I usually volunteer for the job; actually, I usually wait until the other players have made up their characters because it helps me decide what to play. But I don't hold it against them, and if I really want to play something, I do.

Hope it helps!! :D

now that i think about it more i think its the fact they dont know how to play a caster.

i will talk to them more and maybe help them a little more. these are are not noobs at playing but by all means they are not veterans either, well i do have one noob lol. he always tries to play the get as many feats as possible to be the best all around player, i can shoot a bow with no dmg, swing a sword with not a lot of dmg, i can track but not that great, i can open a lock if it has a button........get what i mean, he plays the down version of the jack of all trades. lol. but hes new and im sort of taking him under my wing.

thanks for the help guys.

so for now, i am playing a bard, little arcane, little divine, but still ok.
