About five hours ago, i was looking around at the D&D section of my hobby shop when i spotted these dice that where rigged. The twenty sided die had two twenty's on it and where weighed, along with various other dice, but i have a few questions.

First off, if the DM does not know, would you call it cheating to have these dice in the game?

Second off, who else had these scores for rigged dice:

d6: 17/20
d10: 14/20
d20:16/20

Trust me, they work and are great!

Just me, but yes, I would call it cheating, no matter who knew, because you are still doing something unfair.

Yes, it is cheating.

I dearly hope that any DM who catches you using those dice kicks you out, and any players who catch you using them while DMing walk out on you.

What if you had a die weighted to come up 10 most of the time, and the DM used it whenever someone wanted to "Take 10"
could be interesting >.>

You roll dice to 'Take 10'?

That way, though chances are with you, you can still mess up.

Yeah, i thought it was cheating, but i dont read the whole ****ing Players Handbook, and i want to know if it says anything about rigged dice in there
trapspringer

The player's hand book doesn't say it's wrong to bludgeon the person next to you with a ball peen hammer until they slip into a comma, but it's considered pretty in-friggin-considerate.

I hope the player's handbook isn't your sole source of moral guidance.

EDIT: Oh, and you should read the players handbook cover to cover (excepting the spell section) before you start playing regularly. It's all pertinent to you as a player and a knowledge of the rules is critical to a smooth-running D&D game.

Ok, keep the posts on the topic of the thread, not other guests. Otherwise, it is going to be considered Baiting which is against the Code of Conduct, and thus disciplinary actions will follow. Fair warning.

Yes, it is cheating.
Loaded dice = cheating...
this is the kind of thing that just doesn't usually get specified because everyone knows it. You probably won't find it in the rules for a lot of games, yet try that in Vegas and you'll probably end up limping home.

Uhm... what else is there to say about that?

Well, let's see.

Come play in my campaign. I just bought new dice.

Am _I_ cheating?

Just turn that around and see if you want those dice used on YOUR character. You just answered your own question.

I'd like to quote trapspringer as well.

Perhaps you'd like a nice computer game instead...

Hmm, tough question but maybe you could help me with one? I have this baseball bat, and for some reason it has cork in the middle making it much lighter and yet hits just as hard. Should I use that in my next game? What if the umpire didn't know :P

What if, say, I had a whole bunch of Aces that I discovered someone put in my sleeve? Would it be OK to just slip those in to my poker hand if I felt like it? What if nobody else at the table would find out?

And by the way, people always find out.

The only reason to buy fixed dice is to play jokes on each other "Wow, I rolled all 18s! I am so making a Druid this game! ... Gotcha! They're rigged hehe." such as that.

I'm pretty sure that you won't find anything about whether loaded dice are okay in dnd in the PHB. Its such a non-questions, so if you really need to ask this question, you have to do some thinking: why are you playing dnd?

I suppose that if you really want to use your loaded dice, you talk to your DM and your party first. It's not cheating if they all allow it. I don't know why you'd want to do this (or if there's anyone who'd allow it) but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. If you get caught using them without notifying your other players first the reaction might be something you really don't want.

Anyway, that being said I don't really recommend the usage of loaded dice. It takes away the chance part of the game, which makes for really nice roleplay sometimes. If you can always roll around a 20 on everything, there's no point in playing the game. Keep in mind that if you think your encounters are too hard, you could ask your DM to make easier encounters, instead of using loaded dice. Your DM just makes encounters tailored to form a challenge to you and your party. If you cheat and he sees his monsters die too easily, he might buff them up a litle without ever knowing you cheated and you'll still end up nowhere.

What I want to do is make some die, in the same color as my DM's dice, that roll 1's... Always... then take them to a game, and insist, and brag, and tell everyone that there my lucky dice.

correction pens are for suckas, real haxors use pencils. With pencils, its childs play to erase your base attack bonus, class, race, skill points, without leaving pesky white marks that DM CSI teams can use to uncover your shameful real stats.

Lemme ask you this:

Would you get upset if you discovered the DM had been using dice loaded to always come up the maximum possible roll?

If yes, then don't do it. If no, take your chances (and be prepared to take your lumps).

Because it is not explicitly disallowed it must implicitly be allowed, this is known as the air bud clause.

It doesn't really matter if you're not. Anyone who reads this thread and thinks about using loaded dice will now notice that it's generally not accepted. I believe your question has been answered, though: Yes, it is considered cheating.

Make a d20 with two ones. Roll that when attacking in case you want to miss more often because you think the game is too easy. When you die, switch to the dice with two twenties instead for a few minutes.

The irony is, I've actually fudged my die rolls down when I thought things were too easy ... but never up when I thought they were too hard. :)

Not anymore... now they just call the cops and you get arrested for cheating. I miss the mob run Vegas... so clean.

But back on the subject at hand... Wow I can't believe this question came up!???!!!??!?!

I would have to rule that yes... it is cheating even if the DM doesn't know.

I think he was being sarcastic, trying to see what would happen. Also, its not cheating if everyone else, including the DM also has dice like that. If that happens, the DM can institute an 3 20 instant kill rule, and slaughter the players

Actually, the Players Handbook only states that you have to use a (six) sided die. It never says that you're cheating if you use it, but your DM would probably ban you from using them since he can make up rules.

exactly, sarcasm

It's best not to post sarcastic threads under the guise of serious questions. It can confuse people, as happened here.

Loaded dice are not fair. It's just like giving yourself a few extra gold pieces. I have a set of loaded dice as a novelty item. That's likely what they're intended for.

Remember, you can't "win" D&D. There is no point to loaded dice, except to remove the risk of failure. Without that, the game has no point.

Finally, if you're the DM, you don't need loaded dice. The DM says what happens. They can claim any roll was something else, as long as the players didn't see it. I don't believe that they should, but if the DM is determined not to leave things to chance, they might as well not bother with loaded dice. If you have supreme power that you are determined to abuse, it's ridiculous to try to make it happen "naturally".

If you brought those into the game you would break a bond of trust that exists between you and the dm. Highly likely PK probability and maybe even banishment.

If he didnt, he would always check your dice, dice rolls, char sheets, etc, and he would probably never fudge for you again.

Considering you said: "First off, if the DM does not know, would you call it cheating to have these dice in the game?"

I didn't understand that you were looking for the RAW on using loaded dice - sounded more like you wanted to sneak them into a game without the DM knowing and wanted us to say it was okay. As they say, no dice.
