I'm starting a new campeign and I wanted to know how you role play a half gold dragon Pladin. This is the first time I've roled played a lawful character. Anybody know of anyway of not being a totally up tight kind of a character?

"Thou shall feel thy wrath of thy Golden Dragon and God combined!"

Shouldn't be hard. Act like a do-gooder with pale-gold skin. Though I am not sure what diety you are going to choose...:P

Go for being a paladin of Bahamut, appease the dragon gods. Given a choice between normal gods and dragon gods, always go for the dragon gods, not only are they insanely wealthy, but they also have that whole "I breath fire" thing going on.

Ya but I don't want to be up tight to my party members. I also don't want to just do it for my god. I mean if I fight I want to do it because I feel I need to. Hope I'm not reading to much into it.

Bahamut huh? What alignment is he. How do you get this big wealth?

Unfortunatly, being a paladin means fighting for your god... I never really like paladins for that reason. Always bound to their gods and to do the right thing. Sometimes you get the urge to kill someone and you can't cause its not lawful good.

Anyone know of an alternative form of paladin so I don't have to be so god bound? I mean not evil, just alternative so I can be a bit more free

Sure. Look in the player's handbook, under Paladin.

I don't know where Rogue got the idea you have to serve a deity when you're a paladin, because it says specifically in the PHB that you don't have to serve any one deity, although if you didn't serve a deity, you would most likely be on friendly terms with followers of lawful good deities, and possibly neutral good and lawful neutral ones too, since you all have similiar goals.

You must have misunderstood me. I mean that you inforce your beleifs and you shoundn't go against them if you are roleplaying. I never said you had to serve a diety.

You think I'd be roleplaying right if I just live and fight by my beliefs and not enforce them.. I mean that might be just hurting others in a sence and I'm still doing the right thing if I just help others and do whats right.. theres a god and a belief system i can follow by that standard right?

You've hit it on the head Awaken Dragon. Brilliance before our eyes!

Just give a little enforcement. Nothing you don't feel confortable doing.

Ah ha, a little crusader have we now? Well anyways, thats just about right. Follow that path and your god will be the God, and who was the Paladin who spread his teachings? And who is the god who is insanley rich? ;)
Awaken Dragon

Well I don't know the paladin but why would a paladin need to be insanely rich. Not saying its a bad thing but I'm a holy avenger not a bussiness man. What alignment is this insanely rich god?

Why should you be rich? Because you are half dragon!!! Dragons hoard, dragons love wealth, it is only fitting that you a part dragon (possibly following a dragon god) would want a mini hoard of your own.

BTW Bahamut requires all his followers to be lawful good. If you decide your paladin needs a diety he really looks up to, I recommend Bahamut.

You should read the Draconomicon it has a lot of great role playing info on dragon motivations and goals. Youre only half dragon, but thats still more dragon than most. Note, I said read, not buy, just go to borders or blah local book purveyor that allows you to sit and read. I like borders (even though I used to work for barnes and noble) because you can just sit and read the books and they dont care, they even have comfortable seats and a cafe. If you like the book, by all means buy it, but if you just want good roleplaying info you can get that in a quick skim.

Something just came to mind. PALADIN'S CAN'T HAVE HOARDS! ITS UN-PALADIN-LIKE. So you have conflicting sides here... All excess money is supposed to go to your church. I suggest forgeting about a Half-Dragon Paladin. It is just a big clash. Like wearing pink and green.:behold:

Uh, no. Paldins can have hoards. Show me where it says they can't. (And DON'T say the Book of Exalted Stupidity...er, Deeds)

It says it somewere under Paladins in the 2e PHB. I was borrowing it from a friend, so I can't give exact quotes, but I know it said that only money set aside for a fortress or building or home of your own is allowed. Don't beleive me? Look under Paladins in the 2e PHB.

Except that this is 3.5 (or 3.0), not 2nd edition. Things have changed.

Were going by 3.0 for our characters. For the rest were going by 3.25 because its a good balance of power. I've talked it out with my other players. We decided on no hoard because were going to be traveling. However since were starting out at level 4 (excpet me half dragons got ECL +3) we have a sizeable amount of money.

Please don't call my favorite book stupid. It's perhaps the best alignment book ever written. (Which, admittedly, is not hard, since it's only competitor is the book of vile darkness.)

Besides, nowhere does the BoEd say you can't keep treasure, unles you choose to be an ascetic.

Don't have to. 2E doesn't exist. There is only 3E, as far as I'm concerned.

If you play 2E, then it applies, and you're on the wrong boards, the out of print boards are farther down.

Therefore, it doesn't matter what 2E says, because it's no longer canon.

My character does well. Hes was a little weak starting out ( no racail hit dice= 13hp) but he did well in combat. We were fighting some trolls in the forest and he flu up to a tree, got the trolls attention, just jumped down form the tree to attack with a greatsword and flu up and went to another tree. Then finaly after the blood letting of those nasty little buggers before they regenrated he kentucky fired them. It was fun:smirk:
