Halfling-to-Warforged=? [Archive] - Wizards Community

A couple of sessions ago, my character (a halfling rogue 6/scout 4) made the mistake of touching a magic mask in a old crypt, and it basically consumed his body while trapping his soul on the Ethereal Plane. Long story short, we finally came up with a way to bring him back--by putting his soul in a newly-created warforged scout body (and yes, the DM house-ruled that it was possible). Granted, this is a pretty drastic change, and I wasn't entirely sure what would happen. What we did was reroll his physical ability scores (STR, DEX, and CON) while his mental scores (INT, WIS, and CHA) remained unchanged. He retained all of his feats, class features, and skill ranks. I figure he wouldn't qualify for warforged feats like Mithral Body since he technically isn't 1st level, but I may be wrong.

How far would you change such a character? A few changes like these, a complete rebuild, or something in between? (BTW, we took the warforged scout description out of the MM3.)

I think that you could meet the prerequisites for mithril body if you take it RIGHT away. Just say that the body was built with neat-o mithril armor...

And this isn't really going to help... but...

I really thought that your halfling got asimilated by the borg or something by the name of this thread. Hehe, I thought about the mini-borg, and I'm cracking up now :D

As far as the Reincarnate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/reincarnate.htm) spell, which seems to be the effect you are duplicating.

But I agree with metalmayhem80110 about letting him take mithral body right away. Or if he doesn't have a feat currently to spare, let him trade one of his current feats (probably the last feat he's taken) for a body feat. The main reason warforged can only take feats like Mithral Body at first level is because their bodies have to be built with the body alterations. But if the halfling's new body is a mithral one, it would come with Mithral Body, so to speak.

MM3 is the only place I know of that has the Warforged Scout stats, it looks pretty good I must say. As far as the feats go you should be able to "lose" a feat (blame it on the transfer) so the WF Scout could have Mithral Body, which of course means you'll probably at least consider mithral fluidity in order to negate some of the penalties you get from that feat too.

Shouldn't be too hard to houserule though, sounds like an interesting change for a character.

I'm with Fireclave on this. Re-rolling your physical ability scores seems a bit unnecessary. Instead, simply treat this transition as an oddball reincarnate.

A reincarnated creature recalls the majority of its former life and form. It retains any class abilities, feats, or skill ranks it formerly possessed. Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged. Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores depend partly on the new body. First eliminate the subject’s racial adjustments (since it is no longer of his previous race) and then apply the adjustments found below to its remaining ability scores. The subject’s level (or Hit Dice) is reduced by 1. If the subject was 1st level, its new Constitution score is reduced by 2. (If this reduction would put its Con at 0 or lower, it can’t be reincarnated). This level/HD loss or Constitution loss cannot be repaired by any means.

I'd allow the new form to come with one of the warforged body feats, with the understanding that opting for this takes your next available non-bonus feat slot. Depending on your level, this could mean as many as 6 levels before you get to choose a feat to progress your character concept (3 levels to your next standard feat, which has to be <<whatever>> Body and 3 more levels to your next standard feat). Seems a small price to pay for the benefits of becoming a living construct with no CHA penalty.

Well, to be honest, the rerolled stats ended up almost identical to the originals (the only difference was a +3 to STR), and the DM didn't dock a level. A warforged scout's STR and DEX modifiers are the same as a halfling's, anyway. I haven't spoken to the DM about it yet, but I chose to replace an older feat with Mithral Body (as per Fireclave and LoneStranger's suggestions).

Also, if it matters, his feats include:
-Nimble Fingers (DM house-ruled to give everyone in his campaign a free feat, on top of what they normally get)
-Dodge (1st-level)
-Point Blank Shot (3rd-level)
-Rapid Reload (6th-level, replaced with Mithral Body)
-Tactile Trapsmith (9th-level)
-Improved Initiative (4th-level scout bonus feat, level 10)

Thanks for your input, and if you have anything more to add, feel free.
