AmanitaEata 07-27-06, 12:20 PM	I am happy to report that our dilemma may be, at least for now, resolved. As many of you are no doubt aware, or gaming group has coped with a tragic situation (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=670433) – no arms, claw-like hooks, the inability to roll dice. It takes a better man than I. Horrible. We don’t give up, though. We stay ‘till the fight’s won. And that’s just what we did. We did it for the good of our game, and we did it for this wonderful, important person. Some great suggestions from you, the people of the WOTC community, resulted in our favorite young handicapped female role-player being able to quickly, easily and efficiently make her dice rolls, putting the spark back in our game. It was like Viagra for the D&D table; our campaign has been rock solid ever since. It was simple, really. We did the “box” thing some of you suggested. And it worked great! Oh, she protested at first. She always protests about things at first. You just have to coax her into it, let her know that change isn’t bad, that in the end, she’ll like it if she gives it a chance … And she liked it all right. Did she ever. She really liked it. Our games have gone really smoothly, she rolls quickly, and it seems like this issue is off the table. She even nailed a few crits that first night. How great is that? Thank you for all the great advice. This poor young girl may be living with strange and cruel looking devices instead of hands, but her heart is golden and her zest for life boundless. You have helped us make this small part of her life even better. Viva la Wizards boards!

Malruhn 07-29-06, 08:54 PM	I missed the whole first thread and won't go into it here - but I ran into something similar several years ago. Go to Wal*Mart or something similar, and look in the picture-frame aisle. There you can find small (about 4") cubes with a cardboard block in it to put pictures in... the cubes are clear plastic. Buy it for about $4 and when you get home, open it (it opens like two "C"s of plastic that fit at a 90 degree angle to form a cube), and throw away the little cardboard box inside that you would put your pictures in. Spend two hours getting one set of dice into the open box... and then close the box. Get a friend to get a couple small pieces of transparent (Scotch-brand) tape, and tape the box closed so it doesn't accidently fall open. Voila!! Instant see-thu 4" cubed box to pick up, shake and easily see your results.

There are all kinds of problems us gamers, through acceptance of people into gaming groups, can help with, just through simple human kindness being shared through a game. Like a situation I just became aware of yesterday. These twin girls had been raised out in the middle of nowhere for approaching two decades by their mom. They can only talk in a minimal way. They don't understand much of "society", they don't know how to read or write. I can go on, but you can probably fairly imagine the rest. All because their mother didn't trust the rest of the world (definitely out of touch with reality) so kept her children out of it, totally undeducated, no medical care, and I won't get into the living conditions. Anyways, these girls need to learn how to be social, how to communicate, how to not be so self concious about themselves, and many, many, other things. Games, and just plain old education, are going to be crucial to allow them to have the ability to live their lives to the fullest possible potential. It really kills me to see how much intelligence they do have, inherent friendliness, great enthusiasm, and to see how "crippled" they are by being almost 20 years behind on their education and social growth. Fortunately with a couple of years of intense help and education a lot of the lost ground can be recovered. We'll just have to see how much the hidden scars don't heal and hold them back. Anyways, kudo's to your group, and the girl, for having the guts to socialize with each other. She is human too, as you apparently have become well aware. I hope you continue to have the strength, and insights, to stand by your fellow human being.

Sinaz 08-02-06, 12:44 PM	Heh... I read through the other thread. I was surprised no one had thought of trying to disassemble a Pop-O-Matic bubble and put a couple of polyhedrals inside. Maybe the dome would be a little difficult to press with a prosthetic limb... but the idea is so appealing, that I may just go and entomb a set of my dice in some Pop-O-Matic bubbles. They can be obtained from Trouble board games for about ten dollars. If anyone knows of a way to obtain just the bubble, let us know. (Or if you happen to have a bubble laying around and can tell us if it can be disassembled without breaking it.) you can pop a lot of trouble with the pop-o-mattic bubble... trouble! trouble! ...sigh...

We see a lot of threads in here about people who treat one another with disregard and act with selfishness.
