| ROLAND IMIR09-30-04, 06:03 PM | I am playing a Gnome Bard in a new campain and when reading the PH I saw that Gnomes typically play practical jokes on their fellow adventurers.Does anybody have any creative ideas for harmless, fun practical jokes? |
| Lincoln Hills09-30-04, 06:19 PM | There are dozens, ranging from casting ghost sound on the wizard's spellbook (every time he opens it, it says, "Moo!") to swapping out the fighter's full helm for a well-polished spittoon and the rogue's picks for a large sausage (Sleight of Hand works well for such swaps). However, and this is important, remember that you want these folks to LIKE you. Never pull these pranks when you'll be relying on that spell-book, that helmet, or those lockpicks to keep the party going. The best time to spring these things is just after a successful dungeon crawl. They're so happy to still be breathing that they'll laugh at anything, except the barbarian, and he's probably too tired to chase you for more than a mile or so. |
| MortalPlague09-30-04, 08:30 PM | We had a short adventure where I allowed monstrous creatures. One player played an ogre, and was bullying the gnome sorcerer, throwing apples at him constantly. The ogre had picked up a barrel of them, and was just pelting the poor gnome. After a while, the gnome cast suggestion, and nearly everyone failed the save, so he made the ogre turn the barrel upside-down over his head, pummelling himself with all the apples, then made him wear it as a helmet. Then he made the ogre dance. It was a riot. Of course, the ogre later attempted to kill the gnome, but that's another story. |
| Callista09-30-04, 09:08 PM | Two words: Sovreign Glue... |
| Slate King10-01-04, 01:36 PM | bad story relating to soverign glue the gnome dumped soverign glue on the paladin's head. With a potion of glibness he convinced the paladin that the best way to get rid of it was to wash it off in the pool. The pool with the stone bottom. When the paladin bent down to wash off the glue. Gnome kicked him in the rear. The paladin's head was stuck to the bottom of the pool. Paladin lived for about 3 minutes. |
| simen_8810-01-04, 01:46 PM | Cows will go up stairs, but not down. Inns have stairs. Do I have to say more? |
| bradikus10-01-04, 01:59 PM | A nice harmless prank could be to provide a fighters weapons with a nice pink glow. When drawing thier weapon to charge into battle they would be weilding a pink blade. |
| Ratheus10-01-04, 04:53 PM | Ghost sound on another's weapon. When the fighter draws his sword for combat, the flight of the valkyries is played. In the gnome's voice, using words like "dum dum da da da dum dum..." In a bar, use slight of hand to switch everybody's drinks around. Magic mouth placed on somebody's shield. When struck in combat, the shield starts griping about how much that hurt. Play bardic music to inspire competence when somebody asks the barbarian a question that involves thought. Your improvised musical instrument is your armpit. Mage hand. Now that's just plain great for pranks. Flip the page when a wizard is studying his book, knock the fighter's ale into his lap, lift that big ruby out of the rogue's grasp, bean somebody with a pillow when settling down for the night. |
| Loren Pechtel10-02-04, 12:55 AM | Mage hand. Now that's just plain great for pranks. Flip the page when a wizard is studying his book, knock the fighter's ale into his lap, lift that big ruby out of the rogue's grasp, bean somebody with a pillow when settling down for the night. And presdigitation. Ideally, items that grant unlimited use of these, ideally that can be commanded mentally instead of verbally. Flavor the fighter's ale something else. Maybe fruit punch. |
| MortalPlague10-02-04, 01:40 AM | We had a mischevious rogue who slipped an elixir of love into someone's drink during a dungeon, making him fall in love with the icy female mage PC. It was quite amusing... :) |
| The Vorpal Tribble10-02-04, 02:23 AM | Buwhahaha... my speciality. #1. Cut the bottoms out of the warriors pants. Nothing like a breeze during battle. #2. Manure under the pillows. #3. Steal as much of everyone's coins as you can before they find out, divy it up, and sneak an equal ammount into everyone's pockets/supplies/bedrolls etc (make sure to do your own as well). #4. Shave the mane and tail of the horses of your companions. #5. Cut halfway through the stirrups on the horses. They step up to ride and it dumps them to the ground. #6. Get all the other players into this one. Pretend to find a magical scroll or object and looking around it and say, "Hey, there are odd words on this thing! What does 'Bajooglehamster' mean?" as you look at the one player not let in on the prank. Immediately jump back and shout the player's name. Have the entire group act like they cannot hear or see the player, and if he touches them, reach out blindly and say, 'So and so? Is that you?' #7. My favorite of all time: My character was somewhat new to this campaign, and it had been going on for years, but though OOCly they were friendly and enjoyed my character, ICly they were very skeptical and mocking of my rogue, so after they played a small practical joke on him, he with his 19 int (17 +2 from albino template, very interesting to play an albino) worked up this great elaborate scheme to get them back. He got a blank sheet of parchment and went into a library late on night as the player slept and paid a mage there to write what my character dictated in an obscure language. The mage was paid even more to keep quiet about it and not tell a soul. My character then poured ale on it, let it dry, urinated on it and crumpled it up and then smoothed it out and let it dry some more. Made it look stained and ancient. He then carefully, yet jaggedly, cut it into two. Read from one side it looked like the ancient history of something the other players had been seeking for years. However, put them together and it is my rogue going on about how he has had the last laugh. He then payed a beggar to watch out for him and his group the next day and myseteriously drop the first bit that sound like the start of an adventure as he passed, and hide. The players got all suspicious but excited once it was finally translated. Whoopee! So with my character giving hints and aid very subtely, he worked them into this certain area where he would disapear to everynight and work on difficult to disarm but harmless traps that eventually led into this cave he found. There, in an old looking bottle wrapped around with rope (which they thought magical), was the other half. They get this other half and spent another week finding someone to translate this other half, and together they got to hear the whole message as my rogue sat there, grinning smugly. At least one went for his sword but my rogue had also paid for some protection if need be and they desisted. They did, in the end, acknowledge his cunning to which he replied, "That was just the beginning, and I was being nice at that. Am I your equal?" the quickly nodded and accepted him finally. --- Hope you can use a few of these :) |
| Arakano10-02-04, 05:23 AM | My level one group was once resting in a gnomish village (that they had just saved from a kobold attack, btw). They were wounded, so they asked the village priest for healing. The priest, being a level 1 cleric, couldnīt do much, but he gave them some healing salves (cured 1 hp). This salves, however, were enchanted to make anything treated with them glow pink. So you see, when the players awoke next morning, all their little scratches and their few serious wounds were glowing pink. And mind you: They didnīt got mad at all! They even took some more of the salves with them on their next adventure. They thought the pink glow to be an unavoidable effect that went along with the healing... :D Nothing like a prank that is never known as such. ;) |
| MortalPlague10-02-04, 05:36 AM | Vorpal Tribble... lmao... That's a great trick, a seriously inspired trick. Just brilliant. :D |
| Talin Lightfingers10-03-04, 12:37 AM | Presigidation is great for pranks!!! Great for flavoring food and drinks!;) (and gnomes have that as a spell-like ability, too) And mage hand! Great! :mage: :) |
| IceFractal10-03-04, 08:27 PM | How about the "Gem of Telepathic Broadcast" trick? Get a fake but special looking gem, maybe enchant it with some simple illusion spells to make it look more magical. Also procure some Sovereign Glue and an item that will let you use ventriloquism without any visible casting components, and an impressive looking box. Now, this is the important part, wait until you're out traveling, not in danger but far enough from town its not possible to get anyone to Identify an item. Go out during the night and set up the impressive box to look like it was just dug up (put the gem, with glue on one side, inside it), and say you must have been guided by magic because you were asleep when you dug it up. Say you heard in the dream that it could only be opened by <some qualification that fits the party member you want to play the trick on>, and get ready. When they open it (or when they get near the gem if someone else opens it), use mage hand to stick the gem onto their helm, forehead, or whatever. Use your secret ventriloquism item to have the gem loudly announce that it is a telepathic broadcasting gem, activating right now, and then go silent. Then, a second later, it start broadcasting the wearer's "thoughts" (actually you using ventriloquism) out loud. The glue should keep it stuck on, so have fun announcing embarrasing "thoughts" until you get near somewhere that the gem could be identified. Then have it announce that its run out of power and is shutting down. If you're lucky they may never know who did it. There's a lot of different ways to do this pranks, especially in how you "find" the gem, and how it becomes known as a gem of telepathic broadcast, if you're the party Wizard, you could falsely identify it, or you could put fake runes revealing its supposed purpose on it. In fact, while this makes a good prank it could also be used to frame a party member if you're evil, although then it will be put under more scrutiny. |
