| konrad_the_tall12-06-06, 02:37 PM | My DM is a nice guy, I like him. Previiously my Human Barbarian had an IC birthday and asked the other characters for a puppy. The halfling rogue in the party killed a puppy and naile dit to my pillow. I used the puppy remains as bait to catch a live puppy which he named scraps. Everyone one loved my puppy. Suddenly we are all woken in the middle of the night so I said that I was putting him in a safe place. The DM then said my puppy had died of cancer. One adventure later I stoped a load of people killing each other and did loads of other relly CG acts. as we were packing up after I said "My character suddenly turns LE." Thent he DM said ""ok, all the clerics kill you. you now dead" (there were a load of clerics about.) I had NEVER previously done ANY lawful OR evil acts. Any thoughts anyone? |
| Thiez12-06-06, 03:11 PM | I love the "your puppy has died of cancer" thing, but for the rest he sounds a bit harsh. I think he's the kind of guy who will let you break the rules to get hurt, but never to get an advantage. Like, you can suddenly change your alignment if this would result in a large group of people killing you, but if you would find some evil artifact and said "My character suddenly turns NE", he'd say "No.". Then again, I don't know how you and the other players like the game, so who am I to judge the DM. |
| Maxwell_Silverhammer12-06-06, 03:17 PM | were you at all upset by a dead puppy on your pillow?? and then you used the scrapps of the dead pup to have another puppy eat it? (cannibalism) |
| Maxwell_Silverhammer12-06-06, 03:18 PM | but the alignment change so he could kill you off while conveniently surrounded by clerics is BOGUS. |
| BlueBlazer12-06-06, 03:28 PM | An excuse or at least an excusable explanation would be that maybe he assumed your character said this aloud? Because some DMs are rather IC-happy, and saying "I'm lawful evil" while surrounded by goodly clerics would reduce your life expectancy. Sadly I doubt this explanation applies, however, and I suggest you have a good long chat with your DM. Ask if simple declaration of intent is enough to change alignment immediately and without behavioral shifts, ask how the clerics knew you were (suddenly) evil (I suppose they might've been Detecting Evil, but that requires concentration), and make sure you ask about that puppy, because I REALLY don't think it died of cancer... he's alive and healthy on a farm with lots of other dogs to play with and squirrels to chase and he's really really happy and there just wasn't room for him here and a dog like that really needs to stretch his legs and you see how this is what's best for Scraps, don't you? Aside from the fact that alignment shouldn't shift immediately like that (and that the Clerics would have no good reason to know about it even if it did) the DM may be resolute in forbidding evil characters, so saying "I'm evil" is like saying "here's my character sheet, I'm done with it." I also kind of doubt this is the case (the halfling nailed a puppy to a pillow? Hilarious, but not exactly mentally balanced). So my opinion is "that's screwed up" and my advice is "talk to the DM". Helpful, huh? PS. You caught a puppy using puppy-bait? |
| Sinaz12-06-06, 05:26 PM | Is this a group of six year olds? |
| Thiez12-06-06, 05:42 PM | "Is this a group of six year olds?" No, those would act more mature ;) But seriously, Sinaz, that's a bit rude. It's not like 'your' way of playing the game (whatever that is like) is the only 'right' way of doing it. Not to say that I'd play in this guy's game. Though I think the first 2 or 3 sessions would be hillarious. |
| Sinaz12-06-06, 05:53 PM | "Is this a group of six year olds?" No, those would act more mature ;) But seriously, Sinaz, that's a bit rude. Though I think the first 2 or 3 sessions would be hillarious. It has nothing to do with 'my' way of playing. It just sounds like the kind of exchange six year olds would have. Doesn't a guy get some kind of initiative roll before all the clerics auto-hose him? Is 'cancer' a kind of brick that fell on the puppy's head? He just exploded into a deadly malignant tumor overnight? No opportunity for a cure spell? "I nail a puppy to his pillow! HAHAHAHAHAAA!!! And if there are any girls around I wanna DO 'em!" Sounds like a table of six year old brats is all. Well... maybe 10 years old. I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'. And I agree about the maturity level. I played a G-rated campaign with my Art Director that was tailored to introduce his 9 year old daughter to the game... and she had a more mature perspective to things than this guy's group. In the end, if I spontaneously quipped that my character turned LE, and the DM told me the clerics diced me by committee - it'd be widely regarded as a stupid joke... I certainly wouldn't need to come to the boards to ask advice about it. |

Helpful, huh? PS. You caught a puppy using puppy-bait? This is wrong. Sure, IC, the character would know about Good and Evil, but when someone stands up and says "I am LE" in real life, I think the general answer would be, "Yeah right, whatever, man", not "Really? Die!!!!" The DM is purposefully being a horse's butt, and I suggest that you talk to him about it. |

| High Octane12-06-06, 07:27 PM | then why post? *shrugs* |
| konrad_the_tall12-06-06, 07:32 PM | This one time, the dwalf cleric tried to run betwen my legs, so I said "I hit him with my bonner!" The DM ruled it was ripped off by the cleric's sheild spike. Fortunatly I prayed to Kord and it grew back bigger than ever (my character has a 14 out of 20 *****) |
| Sinaz12-06-06, 07:45 PM | This one time, the dwalf cleric tried to run betwen my legs, so I said "I hit him with my bonner!" The DM ruled it was ripped off by the cleric's sheild spike. Fortunatly I prayed to Kord and it grew back bigger than ever (my character has a 14 out of 20 *****) Ohhh, I get it... you must go to UT Austin. PS - why do you keep spelling 'dwarf' as 'dwalf'? |
| konrad_the_tall12-06-06, 07:46 PM | nah, I'm english. pip,pip. |
| Cael12-06-06, 07:55 PM | nah, I'm english. pip, pip. Good Lord. I vote that we evict the sodding chap that is sullying the cherished image of our glorious name, what! :D |
| d2447866712-06-06, 08:33 PM | You know you aren't helping your case *disturbing mental images with the dwarf and the first post* :twitch: Now, seriously, your DM overreacted. IIRC, you can't spontaneously change alignment. You're still Chaotic Neutral. You aren't good if you feed a puppy to a puppy. How could you? |
| 1hitparry12-06-06, 08:34 PM | Honetsly, the whole campaign sounds like bull honkey. First of all, I'm confused as to why your character would use his old puppy as puppy bait. I'm pretty sure most characters wouldn't do that. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but based of the description you gave, I think that using the remains of the puppy you were given as a birthday present does not fit. But more imporantly, though, having your puppy randomly die from cancer (of all things) is stupid. A bunch of clerics suddenly turning around to kill you is even more bull honkey. I have no idea what your DM thinks he is, but he seems out of line to me. |
| FeceMan12-06-06, 08:54 PM | My DM is a nice guy, I like him. That seems pretty doubtful from what I've read. Previiously my Human Barbarian had an IC birthday and asked the other characters for a puppy. The halfling rogue in the party killed a puppy and naile dit to my pillow. Why didn't you kill him? I would have. I used the puppy remains as bait to catch a live puppy which he named scraps. Ooookay...getting weird... Everyone one loved my puppy. Suddenly we are all woken in the middle of the night so I said that I was putting him in a safe place. Erm, sounds like a plan. The DM then said my puppy had died of cancer. The ****? Maybe you should have named your puppy "Lumpy" because of the half-pound tumor growing out of his neck, then. One adventure later I stoped a load of people killing each other and did loads of other relly CG acts. Okay... as we were packing up after I said "My character suddenly turns LE." 1. That's not allowed with a barbarian. 2. You don't just get to decide your alignment. Or change it. Your actions determine alignment, not vice-versa. (Though, this is arguable, but let's not ruin the thread.) Thent he DM said ""ok, all the clerics kill you. you now dead" (there were a load of clerics about.) That's a pretty crappy thing for your DM to do. I had NEVER previously done ANY lawful OR evil acts. Then why did you turn LE? Any thoughts anyone? Actually, I have a question: Are you playing with retards or what? Seriously. Nailed a puppy...to a PILLOW, of all places? |
| Furnok12-06-06, 09:07 PM | Alignment is a state of mind which is displayed by a characters actions in game. You can't just say "I'm CE now." Instead you'd have do things, (many in my campaigns) to warrant an alignment shift. When I DM the players select their alignment but after that I take it upon myself to judge their actions and adjust if really necessary. |

| Lord Karsus12-08-06, 07:02 PM | I have a fair few ranks in surival. -I'll assume you mean 'survival'. Anyway, what makes you think that: a) You will find a random ownerless puppy just wandering around, looking for an owner b) Said puppy will be hungry enough to consider eating the diseased ridden corpse of a fellow member of it's own species c) Said puppy will decide to follow your character around, after consuming said disease ridden corpse? |
| High Octane12-08-06, 07:04 PM | To be honest, if he has enough survival he wont need a dead puppy to find a live one. If that....would actually help. |
| Lord Karsus12-08-06, 07:27 PM | If that....would actually help. -To be quite frank, I don't think there is anything that can actually help the situation here... |

Nails just don't stay in pillows all that well. Your DM should have had some clerics kill him for that lapse of common sense, I mean what kind of game is he running over there? |
| Sphyre12-11-06, 04:37 AM | :wipes a tear from his eye: wow. thanks for the laugh. The puppy died from cancer? What? Is your Barbarian literate and have a PHD in medicine? Hahahaha haha hahahaaa If you're going to be silly, expect your DM to be silly too. |
