You find a group of people that say they can play on a regular basis, and for the first few weeks they do. So you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on books and minis, then, your worse fear starts to slowly be realized...

First one guy cant make it at the regular time for some reason or other...But that's ok, we ca nwork around his character not being there...

Then, 2 people cant make it, so you think, ok, we can cancel that session for that week.

Then, you start haggling over the time and date and duration of the session, but you still cant get enough people together to play...so your group just dies, and you cant find another group, and now you have $500 worth of worthless books and minis that will never be used again...

All I can say is...Thank God for EBay - at least I can get half my wasted money back.

:mad:Why would you spend that much on a hobby you've just started?? At most, a group needs the 3 core books. That's $100. Also, are there no other people who might want to play living within a reasonable driving distance? How odd....

If all else fails, there's always e-Bay!

Your former group is looking to play? You are looking for a group?? But you can't game together??? Something makes no sense.

And, the boards here are not the most efficient way to find a group. Go to your FLGS and ask if they have a board for posting things like this. Most do.

Think of friends. Just because they don't know D&D dosn't mean that they can't. Every person in my group, with the exception of one, I have taught the game.

Its not that hard to teach the game. Most of it you can learn through actually playing rather than reading the books anyways.

HA HA HA HAA!!!

The only reason I can laugh is that is happens so very often where I play (I use a internet pen and paper program... NOT MIRC or IRC)

If you can't play in real life play online... but I warn you, getting games that don't end in the first month is TOUGH!!! Most online dnd players will join like seven games a week and only stay in one if your lucky. The number of games that last more then 6 months is almost non-existant

You don't need to spend that much on D&D. All you need is the core 3 books and dice. Wizards suggests you buy minis, but you don't even need those. If you're short on cash, you can use anything really. Use coins or buttons or board game tokens. I do have minis but not too much, so I do this too.

Also, if the people who know D&D can't or won't play for whatever reason, there's no reason you can't teach others.

I don't know WHAT that is... but it's still the greatest picture I've ever seen.

Have you tried getting any of your other friends to play? If not, talk with them it make take convincing and a lot of patience but you may get enough new players to run campaigns on a regular basis. Try to use their intrest if any coincides with with a class in D&D. Ex. one of your friends wants to be a "good" cop you tell him/her about the paladin class. Just don't force it upon them and ask questions to try and find out what it will take to get them to play.

Our friendly GM, because of whom (well, it was not entirely his fault, there was one player responsible too dor driving three other players mad...) Masks of Nyarlathothep scenario for Call of Cthulhu was never finished...

Find new players. Check out the rpga, find a new group. dnd.meetup.com has a zip search for groups. Why did you spend that much $ when just starting? The core books & dice will do you man. Good luck!

This sort of thing is precisely why I started playing RPGA's Living Greyhawk.

For all the limitations of a shared campaign with arbitrary rules and paperwork, it does provide me with more gaming sessions than I can possibly play.

I started with the core 3.5 books almost 2 years ago. As people came in and out of the various groups that have come and gone over the past 2 years, they played this-or-that class/PrC, so I would buy the book that contained it, etc.

I'm up to about 40 books now....ugh I hate impulse shopping...

cant find players and/or a DM? Try http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga

First, as DM you set what books will be used. they want a particular PrC? they provide the book for you to see. Everyone gets their own minis, or use dice or poker chips or a tiny piece of cardboard cut out.

Don't be the doormat. As mentioned above, talk to friends about gaming, teach a couple at a time, then bring them together. suddenly , you'll have a group. Teach at least two of them to be DMs, also. That way you get to play! ;)
