| Netak09-10-06, 02:26 PM | A wizard got a d4 hp at 1lvl. You plus that with the con. and for an examble; Jellder (Wizard) got a ability modifier at +3 (Con). That means she got 7 hitpoints. With ex. a kobold there use its halfspear, it makes 1d6-2 for damage. its only have to make a damage on 4/3. And then the wizards it dead. Just forth it wudden't be to fun to die so quickly. Can I do something to get more hitpoints without magical items and lvl-up. Sorry my english spelling:) |
| HauptSin09-10-06, 02:28 PM | Toughness feat will give you 3 more HP. The general tactic for a low-level Wizard is to cast Mage Armor on themselves, and hide like a pansy behind the fighter. :p |
| Netak09-10-06, 02:32 PM | Ahh yeah. Thanks:) I haven't played in 1 1/2 years so kinda forgot things. But thanks;) Tobias |
| Nickpire09-10-06, 02:41 PM | I always let thefighters types go in first at low levels and use my magic to pick off stragglers/fleeing enemies. If I make any attacks I use a cross bow since at low level I'm about as good with it as anyone else. |
| Crimson_Concerto09-10-06, 02:58 PM | Toad familiar will get you 3 extra HP, if I remember correctly. |
| mearrin6909-10-06, 03:04 PM | High Con and Toughness are your best bets. My current character is a wizard and, thanks to good rolls, Toughness, and +2 Con bonus he actually has pretty good HP at 9th lvl. But, yeah, first level would be scary (we started at 2nd). M |
| DarkNick09-10-06, 04:12 PM | Why does everyone always freak out about a mages low HP's? I never thought of it as a big deal. My best mage I ever played only had 14 Hp's at 9th level. I suppose I had a supportive party. The mages were always defended so that they had a chance to use their play making spells. I've had very few mages die compared to fighters. I think fighters have the shortest lifespan of any of the classes. You might be better off maximising your spell casting abilities than trying to minimise the weakess of low HP's. If everyone is left to fend for themselves at first level, I can see why you would be worried though. (toad familiar gives you +2 to Con I think) |

Now it gives +3 hit points instead of the Con bonus. I think there was a rash of PC wizards getting toad familiars solely for the Con bonus, so WotC realized it was overpowered. My Dwarf enchanter's toad isn't so amazing now. Fortunately, there's a cool spell to turn it into an earth elemental that I've been meaning to try. |

| igotsmeakabob!!09-11-06, 02:28 AM | Also, remember that you're not dead at -1, you're just unconcious. |
| dragonseth09-11-06, 09:59 AM | Personally, when I make wizards, I only minimally worry about HP. I know (depending on who is playing in my party) that I won't have to worry about getting within 50 feet of anything dangerous. Enemy spellcasters are an issue, but my own creative casting can neutralize that. |
| Moritz09-11-06, 10:08 AM | there is also the improved thoughness feat from complete warrior that gives you extra hp equal to your level |
| runestar09-11-06, 10:22 AM | There is a regional feat in PGTF that gives you +5hp. There is another regional feat called mind over body that lets you use your int/cha mod instead of your con mod to determine bonus hp for 1st lv only, as well as giving you +1hp for each metamagic feat you have. Toughness gives +3hp, a toad familiar gives another +3. Spells like aid or false life give you temp hp, helping you survive longer.:) I think improved toughness has a requirement of +2fort save, so a wiz can't take it until 6th lv...:( |
| Lunar_Shadow09-11-06, 11:59 AM | You should be so lucky to have 6 at 1st. When I started I had 3. *Curses the dice for his **** Con roll* |
| oxybe09-11-06, 01:02 PM | improved thoughness gives you +1 HP/HD, and a bonus 1 HP each level |
