| Illeveun Bloodblaze05-06-07, 08:18 PM | Last night, my character ran into a little bit of a problem. He is a protectar Healer 17 and he ran into a bad incident with the deck of many things. He drew a joker and Balance. I really dont care about the xp loss, but his alignment changed from chaotic good to chaotic neutral. Seeing as he just lost all powers from 17 levels of healer, help would be welcome determining as he could become effective again. I've already ruled out wish and miracle, as I don't want the adverse effects of them, and the DM and I agreed that my character does not know why he lost his healing powers, and that he most likely would not want an atonement spell. So far I've been thinking of just getting a bunch of daggers and alchemical items and working to be effective with those, and also getting his cohort to help protect/ deal damage for him. Please help if you have any ideas. |

| Illeveun Bloodblaze05-06-07, 08:27 PM | I'm not so sure with Miracle either, as I said, but because, one, it is a low magic setting that we are playing in, and two, with my DMs, I'm not sure if it will grant me my abilities back, but have a side effect on my character that I don't want to happen. |
| chava05-06-07, 08:43 PM | I'm guessing that your dm said you lost your class abilities - but if not you should check bc I don't see why you would (not be able to continue advancing yes - lose abilities no) unless you did something horribly bad in addition to your alignment changing. You are now chaotic neutral - no where near as caring or kind of an individual but unless you have a problem with healing your allies or good creatures that you come across you haven't violated your ethos. Ex-Healers A healer who grossly violates her ethos (such as by refusing to heal an ally or a good-aligned creature) loses all spells and class features (except for proficiency with simple weapons and light armor). She cannot thereafter gain levels as a healer until she atones (see the atonement spell description, page 201 of the Player's Handbook). So what did you do to lose your powers? |
| DarkNick05-06-07, 09:55 PM | I don't see why you would lose your powers either... |
| danielinthewolvesden05-07-07, 12:51 AM | Nope, you do not lose your powers. You may need an atonement spell to advance further. |
| mercutio53105-07-07, 01:41 AM | I dont know the class, as I dont have the book that has it, but alignment can always be changed through roleplaying.. It takes time, but actions dictate alignment, not the otherway around... though I suppose if you got hit with something that made you evil right away, youd kinda have to go with it at least in the beginning and work your way back.. The Gods are all about freedom of choice... says so in every Divine type book. Maybe an atonement spell, but mostly use it as a story arc with your DM. Could be cool. :-) |

The Gods are all about freedom of choice... says so in every Divine type book. They do allow freedom of choice, but he made the choice to draw from the deck and has to deal with the consequences. I do agree with the others about this though, you shouldn't lose your abilities unless it was a decision by the DM for story reasons. |
| Conlan05-07-07, 02:27 PM | The only thing I can see is that his deity is probably NG and now that he's more than one step away in alignment, he can't gain spells anymore. As for not wanting to use Atonement, why wouldn't he? This seems like a failed wisdom check to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the character could think about it just for a few minutes and realize that one day he was able to cast spells, then he drew from the DoMT and afterward he couldn't cast his spells. Unless he was tricked into drawing the cards in a way that he wouldn't know what was going on, he should be able to put 2 and 2 together. Mind you, he might notice his loss of interest in performing good acts and his lessened distaste for evil. |
| Flan05-07-07, 03:07 PM | CG alignment should have changed to LE, or at least one axis should have shifted all the way, CN isn't a radical change. Helm of Opposite Alignment costs 4000GP. Characters with an INT score above 3 who aren't insane and who touch a deck of many things are being role played very poorly. Don't be surprised when your character gets destroyed by it. |
| Illeveun Bloodblaze05-07-07, 05:27 PM | Well, he didn't really draw from a deck of many things. The DM made a type of construct that was basically, when you kill it, it is like drawing a card from a deck of many things, I killed one and I didn't realise that until after I killed the construct. |
