| Biff Bifford12-04-03, 06:16 PM | Hi, I play D&D every Sunday at 4:00 with some quote un-quote friends of mine. We have alot of fun. Our Dungeon Master's girl friend sometimes brings us cookies and brownies to eat. For the most part they are very tasty and wholesome. It did however take me two Sundays to get over the fact that her and her friends drank my Vodka. He is just and fair. He also collects action figures. He has one or two from the Planet of the Apes series and some interesting Iron Maiden heavy metal band figures. He works with bugs. Cookies don't add up well with his Weight Watchers point system. A guy we'll call "Don", likes to smoke and drink. We think he has a ultra hairy chest, but he wears t-shirts so I'm not certain of this. "Don", frequents happy hours in the hopes of finding a wife. He currently is engrossed in the DVD "when you go black...you won't go back, Part 2. He informend us just last weekend that he can't hold out past the second "scene". My friend I'll refer to as "James" is like me in many ways except that he has a full head of Ronald Reagan hair while I on the other hand have a Folicle count similar to Charlie Brown. He starts and stops his "workout" plans on a weekly basis. His older brother did run a marathon in penny loafers...but for the most part he is normal. "Lee?" Ooh, he just moved to Kentucky...from Southern California. Yes...to Kentucky from So Cal. Nuff said. Well, ok...I'll say more. He tinkles on the toilet seat. We think he only remembers the first half of our games. His characters life span is aprox. 2.16 games. But he is a good Dad and a nice guy. We miss him. Oh yeah, you can always tell where one of his characters has been in a fight. There are Melf's Acid stains all over the ceilings and walls and none on the Orcs. "Lee" is most the likley to be accused of having "d*ck finger. D*ck finger is when you go to the restroom to pee during a game session and return without washing your hands. This comes into play when we order pizza and the person with said "d*ck finger" is seen tearing off pieces of pizza for themselvs while handling the adjacent piece. To my knowledge no one has ever been accused of poop finger.... Then there is "Bill". "Bill" is big and scary. He is VERY passionate about playing D&D. He spits alot. There are times when we are very frightened at the aspect of him hurting one of us. He ripps the limbs off of his character Figurine and tosses them with great force when they die. He owes alot of GPs to other people...mostly the law. PS: He hates nuts. It angers him when the cookies and or brownies have nuts in them.... Kev....Kev is the quiet type that you say " he seemed like such a nice guy" to the authorities as they question you about the killing spree he has just been arrested for. But...I like him. He likes to keep the game flowing. Top notch fella in my book. Me? Well...I'm a middle aged guy still trying to be a rock star. I have little or no skin color. Most girls have bigger biceps than i do. As stated before, I have the Homer Simpson hair style, yet I have quite the patch on my back. I am pidgeon toed and I take medication for panic attacks. So.....If these were the collection of dummies YOU played with...would you just flat out quit and take up needle point? Please respond.......... WizO Catoblepas: Message edited. | Talisman12-04-03, 06:37 PM | Well, I'm not sure what the point here really is...If you're trying to establish that your game crew consists of equal parts fruits and nuts you've succeeded. Is that a reason to leave them? Only you can decide that. To answer your question, HECK NO!! Give up gaming just because my fellow players are psychos or schitzos? There goes half the population...at least. |
| Asmodeous12-05-03, 02:59 AM | Very Nice post. 10 out of ten. Obviously written by somebody with more than half a brain. I think that if you have got your fellow dnd players this sussed out, then you have little to fear from them. Enjoy the dnd, keep an ever watchfull eye on your back and don't ever reveal your star wars action figures from the first movie to any of them!! |
| ante_up12-05-03, 03:51 AM | If you have fun playing D&D with them, isn't that enough? |
| Bubba12-05-03, 04:01 AM | I think you might be able to make a decent living off of writing a journal of your game sessions and selling it. I, for one, am already hooked. |
| AlteredEgo12-05-03, 04:35 AM | One can ony pray that this thread is never seen by the public outside of the gaming community... It would take many years of excellent Vin Diesel and Elijah Woods movies to erase the geekdom inherent in this thread. That having been said, who cares? :D As much as I think the personal details are a little TMI, if you're having fun playing the game, who gives a rat's patoot? |
| Silver Under Glass12-05-03, 06:38 AM | Well I wouldn't want your group but if you are having fun the only person I'd worry about would be the scary Bill guy. By the way you seem very interested in how much hair the rest of your group has... |
| Biff Bifford12-05-03, 02:45 PM | yes....yes....this is true. You tend to miss what you have been robbed of thru age and evolution.... |
| dafrca12-05-03, 03:00 PM | Very odd post. Interesting in some strange way, but odd. ;) dafrca |
| Legolas Greenleaf12-05-03, 03:00 PM | I could go into great detail about the group of guys that I play with, but I'm a slow typer and don't want to go through the hastle. But it doesn't sound like that bad of a group. Actually a couple of the guys sound JUST like the guys in our group. To me this kind of mix of people always makes for fun, as long as nobody takes things personal. If the big scarry guy takes things personal, you may wake up on day after a D&D session in the hospital.;) But I agree with the other posts. If your having fun who really cares what other people might think of them. |
| westonjimmy12-05-03, 04:58 PM | I saw this post on another forum and am glad the people on this forum have the good sense and humor to see it for what it is and understand it. Biff, You should do some writing on interactions of said group. I tend to believe you find out a lot about people when your "Role" playing. It's funny how certain peoples characters are always big or selfish or whatever. Playing the game is one thing, watching people play the game, objectivly, is another. Good post. P.S. who role plays the best? |
| BlaineTog12-05-03, 08:11 PM | Wasn't this locked by the WizOs on the Classes Forum? |
| Willie the Duck12-06-03, 12:55 AM | Hmmm. Joined less then a month ago, hidden age, averaging almost 3 posts a day, nothing in the profile. let's see, carry the two...got it! Please don't feed the animals. |
| JasperDm12-06-03, 01:40 AM | I for one will actually respond appropo for this thread, by laying bare my own group as well. Hell, might be fun. Note, if my own players read this, eat me. You've said worse about me, and each other. ALso, while the WizO was right, and this didn't at all fit in the Classes forum, it should sit nice and cozy here. Okay, let's see. First, we have me, Hans, alternately, "the Mighty Hans", "that fat guy", "the guy who buys all the books", and for the learned, "The DM". Weighing in at 350+lbs, and 6'1", I am actually not the fattest guy at my table. My haircut is perpetually 20 years behind standard fashion, which at 25 is rather impressive, as it's hit mullet, rat-tail, and now, long undercut, while everyone around me seems to get the whole point. Screw it, I have a wife, I need impress no one. I've been gaming D&D for over 15 years, since 4th grade actually...and haven't been able to do much else well since. As for play, I stick to weirdos and freaks, from templated up monstrosities, to psychopaths, to necromancers, anatomists, and infernalists, anything to whack a party's regular balance. My group is sick of it. Also, apparently, I scratch myself WAY too much. Secondly, there's Ryan, star of what our group has referred to as "The Ryan Show". Ryan's ex-military, and has all the Charisma he needs to be highly intimidating in and out of game. This player, correspondingly, creates wave after wave of sonic-ball throwing sun elf bladesingers with a deep-seated genocide issue, i.e. "That sahuagin party ****** me off. We are now wiping the entire species off the planet." Carries a grudge against man or NPC to the ends of the earth. He's got a firm grasp of the game, scarily, munchkinishly so, but often he forgets he's got a party of merely average characters following him around, watching him get everything done. Then there's Bret, who is a thief in and out of game. Admittedly, more than once, our ignoble rogue has enhanced the game book bag by ill means, but we mostly overlook it, as long as he keeps his hands out of our stuff. Bret has absolutely no honor, and his life revolves around screwing over anyone who comes within reach. In game, he's been guilty of vengeful PVP, but we've mostly weaned him off it. Now he just played weird gnomes. Hm, then theres James #1 and James #2. Totally opposites in all extremes, James #1 is a veteran of White Wolf, and D&D newb, but learns fast. He's actually my most well-rounded gamer, but has a bad case of "get rich quick" in and out of game. Thin guy, stylish, and mostly popular. James #2 is the person I mentioned even bigger than me, he's truly gargantuan. With a feeble grasp of the game at best, he's a quiet statue until combat starts, when his clerics (all he'll play) start flinging nonsense spells. Our favorite was the fight with an epic lich and his clerical mass...into which our noble but ignorant cleric decides to belt out...Zone of Truth. *shrug* David, James #2's brother is a talented newbie, with a quick grasp of the game...and a love of reach. His current character, once his planned progression is done, will have gone from Meduim-sized human, to Gargantuan draconic killing machine. Out of game, he's generous to a fault, but very cool. Micheal, our final regular, is a complete cheater. Unabashedly fudging to 20's 10, 20 times a night, he can't seem to grasp the joy of success comes with the threat of failure. Don't know what to do with that boy... The rest of my guys are ghosts, you know, flickering in and out of the games when they're in town, or off work...but they're real characters as well. Maybe I'll get into them soon. |
| monkeybone12-25-03, 11:32 PM | This is a wonderful thread, a detailed characterization of the players that make up your group. Well-written, too. And there's nothing wrong with it being on these boards, for you can only gain insight from such an examination; depicting the faces behind characters often reveals more than the characters themselves. The aforementioned suggestion that you detail your sessions would be an interesting, if not cathartic journey, as you seem to enjoy writing and exploring the depths of the human condition. Take up thy quill, sir. |
| Leagle12-27-03, 06:09 PM | Channel 4 is proud to present their new reality TV series -100 most thrown together hotch-potch DnD groups... Coming this spring! |
| Big Dawg12-30-03, 09:32 AM | Hmmm. Joined less then a month ago, hidden age, averaging almost 3 posts a day, nothing in the profile. let's see, carry the two...got it! Please don't feed the animals. But it's so much fun! no really, this guy is great even though he is a troll! Biff, i want a full TPS report on your next session on my desk with the new cover sheet by Monday morning! mmmmmmk! Iron Maiden heavy metal band figures Wow, I have a Bruce figure!...Ed is not dead. I am going to see them at the hammerstien ballroom on Jan. 23 |
| Gnarl01-07-04, 11:25 AM | Hmm, from what I've read, there's nothing wrong with these players. After all, RP gamers are notorious for their bizzar looks and wierd quirks. |
