| oxanrd18002-27-04, 07:22 PM | im the only good one in my party and i am a paladin everyone else is evil so heres what usualy happens dm: you see a door players all listen dm: there seems to be a huge monster inside other players: we open the door and push in the paladin and close the door then i get mauled by a giant monster even though my paladin usualy survives would it be against my alignment (lawful good) to do the same to them and if it what should i do? |
| Harmor02-27-04, 07:27 PM | There would be no reason a LG Paladin would associate with evil. Actually if you did you would loose your paladinhood. So either: 1. Become a Blackguard (if your GM allows) and become evil. 2. Make a new character that melds with the party alignment. At least that's what I would do. Maybe others have some differing opinions? |
| PhaedrusXY02-27-04, 07:30 PM | Or 3: Decide they deserve some divine retribution and kill them all (in their sleep maybe). Then when you fall and become a Blackguard, they can make characters to rejoin you! |
| Thaman Starlight02-27-04, 07:32 PM | hmmm...Well, I'm assuming that your DM isn't a rule-lawyer, since I believe that paladins aren't allowed to hang out with the bad guys anyway. As a paladin you are supposed to get rid of evil. Since lawful good doesn't mean lawful stupid (that's a fairly common phrase :D ), and since you probably can't take down the whole party by yourself, yes, I wouldn't think there would be a reason to keep you from bumping them off one at a time in that manner. Still, eventually someone's going to wise up and make sure you don't wake up in the morning, but that's a fair possibility in any evil game. |
| Nahar02-28-04, 12:29 AM | Ah, Thaman's right. Paladins aren't allowed to knowingly 'consort' with evil people. By the rules - and not even that strictly - your PC should have lost their paladin status. I'd have to say it isn't going to work. I walked away from a group with mixed good/evil PC's because it was a pain in the behind. Talk to your DM, ask why this group mix was allowed to be, and find out if evil PC death or paladin leaving group and dobbing with the local law enforcement is the best idea. |

| flyingmoose02-29-04, 03:25 AM | I'm a monk in a party refered to in game as the "Champions of Chaos". I've been the butt of various jokes for over two years. Either pick a different character, pick a different group, or deal with it. I'm weak. I deal with it. |
| Salla02-29-04, 09:07 AM | Sadly, you'll probably have to switch characters. The DM and/or the other players should have TOLD you what they were allowing alignment-wise so you could have made an informed decision about your character, especially since they're playing a non-standard game by allowing evil characters. It requires a particular style of DM and player to play a Paladin correctly ... and this ain't it. |
| ehrin02-29-04, 09:48 AM | First, detect evil on the group at some point, so you know who is evil and who is not. make note of that. second, the next time someone "touches" you in order to shove you through a door, inform them that is assualt, and you will deal with it as an attack if it ever happens again (that's the warning). Third, after they shove you through a door, take a moment to shut and if at all possible, lock the door behind you. and then you kill whatever is in the room. If you can't lock it at first, do it immediately after you kill whatever is in the room. lock it, spike it, bar it, whatever. Then let the little SOB's try to get in and get a peak at the treasure. FOurth, what's in the deal for them? If you defeat the monster, then YOU get the treasure, all by yourself. that's lawful, and good. Stop letting them take treasure. If they try, inform them that is theft, and you will deal with it as such. Finally, snap... at some point, when one of them pushes you, tell the DM: I roll for initiative, and cut the little SOB down. There is no reason for you to be a constant victim of assault, theft, etc.. |
| SmiloDan02-29-04, 10:44 AM | Don't you also get all the XP for defeating the monster in single combat? Well, you probably should. And if this happens repeatedly, you should be a level or 2 higher than the rest of the party if you all started at the same time. Smite Evil! |
| eRaz0r03-01-04, 06:04 PM | Ask yourself why you're hanging out with these people anyway ? You have Detect Evil as a free ability. You have their constant evil actions to tell you what they're like. Are you a paladin, or a mouse ? If you're a paladin, start playing like one. Do you even know what Lawful Good means ? YOU ARE THE KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR ! Does Galahad hang out with cut-throats and thieves? Does Lancelot let bullies and swindlers push him around ? Would Ivanhoe let anyone push him ANYWHERE? let alone through a door into a room full of monsters ? You are playing a Paladin - start acting like one. Firstly. Get over this game. These people don't care that the game is now completely stupid. They're banking on the fact that you're playing someone they can push around. And you are. So don't care so much about what happens. It will make what you do next so much easier. Secondly - you have a choice. You can go several ways here. You can try the serious game - treat everything seriously. If your companions try pushing you , treat it as combat. When someone says "I push the paladin into the room" You respond with "This act of perplexing assault on my person must have been provoked by evil magic. I suggest you roll for your bull-rush attempt. I'm going to be dodging it, and I suspect you're going to fail your roll and rush right on past me. here's a d20." Alternatively, play on the silliness. If they're going to play stupid evil, you play Stupid Good. Don't be cautious - be heroic ! Don't let them push you into rooms - CHARGE in first by yourself. Scream "Have at YOU!" - a lot "Tally Ho! eh what ? Come on LADS, lets SMITE SOME EVIL" Completely ignore that your companions are evil. Treat them like they're good people. Tell them that it's your purpose in life to protect the weak such as themselves, so you don't mind that they cower behind you. Constantly be as arrogant and self-righteous as possible. Insufferably good and YOU KNOW IT. Talk down to them, pat them on the head, be patronizing - like they're little children who need a big strong Paladin to save them all the time. And when you're in combat, use SUNDER on anything you don't think you can use. Don't tell them that is what you're doing, of course, but when the party treasure consists of broken rapiers and shattered shields and snapped wands etc etc. some of your "friends" might not be so happy that they lock you in rooms to deal with the enemies by yourself. Also - when in town, make sure that you donate most of the party treasure to your church. Buy only what you need and what the party really needs. Don't save cash for future purchases -after all, your GOD will provide all that you really need. Most of all - be creative. You might actually have fun with this character before a) the rest of the party kills him in his sleep, or b) you die because you rushed in where devils feared to tread. The other option is c) Everyone else has so much fun laughing at your Stupid Good Paladin, that everyone becomes friends and changes their own alignments just to hang out with him, and one day, when the players are all grown up, they still tell stories to their geek friends about your memorable character. |

Personally I think you should chose to do the Silly road, Much more fun for you in the long run. In-game: let Your party members get angry ... That shows that you are doing it Right. Out-of-Game: Let them get :censored::censored::censored::censored: :censored::censored:, since your doing the job you should have the right to chose, what becomes of the Treasure. If they chose to lay back and let you handle the monsters, then they don't have the right to get :censored::censored::censored::censored: :censored::censored: ..... have fun and be merry. I would have detected Evil and then find ways to make a legal attack on the evil do'ers one at a time. But thats me. |
