| Tallis_Carrick08-06-05, 01:26 PM | I need help building a Dwarf PC in the Dragonlance setting. Rules: no magic users (wizards, Sorcerors). Clerics are a go as is every other class. It is based around a main city in Ansalon. I need your help to make a great character to play. He or she needs to be a lvl 10 character. Thanks again to all who help me. |

| SilverFoxKnows08-06-05, 01:59 PM | personality traits or weapon/ feat selection or a little of both? Do you want to play a belching beer drinking fighter or an intelligent rogue focused on locks and devices? Pious or irreverent? Married with kids, widowed, confirmed bachelor or quiet and withdrawn? Is there a certain god that tickles your fancy? Waraxe and shield or repeating crossbow? Leader type or rank and file soldier? Will he be more concerned with the acquisition of gold or knowledge? Miser or gambler? You gave us a blank slate. Is there a concept you're leaning towards? |
| braindead34508-07-05, 10:16 PM | Longbows are better than repeating crossbows. Go ranger and take the archery build. |
| Nom08-08-05, 12:53 AM | I'm sorry if this is a bit rude, but do you want help with mechanics or characterisation? If you need to ask such an open-ended mechanics question, you shouldn't be playing a level 10 character; level 10 play is a couple of orders of magnitude more involved than level 1, and most newbies will be quickly overwhelmed. Worse, they probably won't have the skill to play a really (mechanically) interesting build, and thus won't benefit from it. In contrast, if you're thinking characterisation, SilverFox's post is a good place to start. |
| SilverFoxKnows08-08-05, 06:14 PM | Longbows are better than repeating crossbows. Go ranger and take the archery build. but a crossbow looks more natural in the hands of a Dwarf, at least to my eyes. |
| Tallis_Carrick08-09-05, 12:37 PM | Alright sorry for the lack of info. I do not need any help with the background...I am cool with all that. My regular campaign has two dwarves that have headed back to a major dwarf city in hopes of diplomacy and so forth. This means our DM is having a side adventure in which everyone is making Dwarven PC's to play with. It should be fun. Normally in the campaign I play the hulking ex-military charasmatic fighter/legendary tactician. I am looking for something different then that type of character, but still dwarven. I am thinking something opposite of that for a change of pace. As stated before NO wizards/sorcorers. It is also a 28 point buy system. Go nuts with that! |
| Devinstater08-09-05, 03:27 PM | I did this once in almost the same situation you are in. I had a blast with a Dwarven Barbarian. Put your highest emphasis on Con, for super-long Rages and lots of HP with your medium armour. You can play him him not as an idiot, just as a person that's not sophisticated. (Why NOT bathe and wash all the blood from our last adventure off in the town fountain.) Very Dwarveny as well. Don't forget dwarves make great trippers if you want to go the spiked chain route since they have a racial +4 bonus to stability to avoid being tripped after a failed attempt. Here's a rough sample build. lvl 1: Extended Rage lvl 3: Extra Rage lvl 6: Power Attack lvl 9: Cleave, or add something else to your fancy, like Leap Attack, This is assuming no Prc's. If you like the barbarian idea (since I'm the first to suggest it), Try Frenzied Bezerker. I'm a single-class kind of guy myself though. |
| Calibron08-09-05, 05:05 PM | Dwarven Bard. Use Oratory and/or Sing as your chosen perform type and sing/recite ancient Dwarven Battle Hyms to boslter your allies in battle. Your Charisma needn't be too high, just however much you want. I reccomend weilding a Large Sized (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#weaponSize) Heavy Mace in combat. An interesting attitude for this character to have is that he's doing his duty to his clan by using his natural talents rather than taking his preffered path as a warrior or possibly cleric. If you like that you might try to get your DM to let you be lawful. |
| Sargon08-10-05, 12:23 AM | By Reorx's Hammer... Thats all i have to say.. But incase i need to say more. Cleric of Reorx Lemm ebust out my DLCS for ya see what it say about reorx. Maybe Riteous Zealot? I know it doesn't have an appealing name but as relgious as dwarves are totally a cleric riteous zealot of Reorx.. If you really wanted to to the fighter thing though check out the hammer combat style in complete warrior. |
