| Malkavianorlz05-26-07, 01:19 AM | Guys, it's been a while since i last played d&d. Nowadays only changelling for me. but to the point, i'm about to start playing in a campain with a Factotum and my brother is willing to do a sorc role. The rest of the company are fighter/barb, monk/warlock, cleric and rogue/cleric. I was willing to do the jack of all trades persona PrC Chameleon, but i think there might be another nice way to deal with the char (i think the factotum/chameleon is too much of a comon sense =\). My brother was willing to play a warmage-like char, charisma based. The attribute will be rolled, so just point out the better ones to focus :D Thank you all and just tell me if i need to put anything else in my thread :) []'s edit: would it be better to put this thread in the optimization chars forum? |
| Azezel05-26-07, 08:01 AM | To be honest - I'm not sure what you are actualy asking. Could you rephrase your question? Or just use a questionmark to point out which bit of your post is a question? |
| Malkavianorlz05-26-07, 08:16 AM | Ok, here is the deal. In another thread i chose the way my factotum will look like. He'll be human factotum 8/trapsmith 1/swiftblade x(probably 7 as i dont think we'll go further then that), but i could easily change my mind if someone come with a better set. So what i need for my char is: - Help with feats - Skills and for my brother char i would need a lot of help, building up a human sorcerer with level by level grow, feats, spells. He's planing on making a dmg dealer sorc. Is that enough? :D |

Feats - since your are going the skill monkey route, (normally I'd suggest Able Learner but that really ain't need with factotum) - If the only other person in the party is a sorcerer, you are going to be the de-facto melee fighter (CON is your friend). As for feats, mechanical there are a bunch of feat trees that work with factotum - what's your character's personality? It would help. Oh, I know that you already have your progression planned, but if you are playing the factotum for the 'I can do anything.' attitude I would suggest looking at the chameleon PrC in Races of Destiny. ------- Also, unless you brother has his heart set on sorcerer, if all he wants is a dmg dealing magic user you should look at Warlock or Warmage (or if he is willing to drop the magic thing) Swordsage or Warblade. ... way too may classes that start with war ... |
| Malkavianorlz05-26-07, 05:20 PM | First of all, thanks for the comments :) For the factotum you what as balanced stats as possible with INT being you high score by two points (wis and cha are the 'best' dump stats). Rather then that i wonder if mainly INT then DEX > CHA > STR > CON > WIS wouldnt be better. I think i could even have less then 10 pts in wisdom, as the divine casts would stand still fairly. Feats - since your are going the skill monkey route, (normally I'd suggest Able Learner but that really ain't need with factotum) - If the only other person in the party is a sorcerer, you are going to be the de-facto melee fighter (CON is your friend). No, you got me wrong. There're alread a Fighter/Barbarian, a Rogue/Cleric, another spellcaster (wizard, tho) and my brother and i. My plan on the Swiftblade is to atack with cleaver atack or something like that (any thoughts on that?) while hasted. As for feats, mechanical there are a bunch of feat trees that work with factotum - what's your character's personality? It would help. as i said i'd like something like power atack, cleaver atk... and stuff to be able to use haste quickened. So i could deal good dmg and be also supporter (not tank!). Oh, I know that you already have your progression planned, but if you are playing the factotum for the 'I can do anything.' attitude I would suggest looking at the chameleon PrC in Races of Destiny. ------- i know they synergise very well, but i would like to do something different. as i don't really plan on that "i can do anything" attitude :) Also, unless you brother has his heart set on sorcerer, if all he wants is a dmg dealing magic user you should look at Warlock or Warmage (or if he is willing to drop the magic thing) Swordsage or Warblade. ... way too may classes that start with war ... not warlock as there's alread one. He just said that any spellcaster who would help out this company would be nice to him. So any thoughts on that? Thanks |

| chava05-26-07, 11:28 PM | If he wants to be a sorcer dmg dealer I would suggest he pick spells from Player's Handbook and Spell Compendium that deal damage. For lasting power I would direct him to the reserve feats that can be found in Complete Mage. Metamagic feats will increase the oomph of his spells, but unless the DM is using a spell point variant - they severly limit what he can do, esp since they increase the casting time to a full-round action. |
| Malkavianorlz05-27-07, 12:50 AM | and about PrCs for the sorc? |

| chava05-28-07, 02:30 AM | Perhaps the reason that you aren't getting any responses it because you aren't giving us any details. You see there are over 350 PrC in the WotC 'core' books (non-campaign - eberron/faerun/etc). Thus when it comes to PrC, the concept of the character will get you more responses than just I need PrC for a sorcerer. I msged you an excel sheet that has all of the PrC that might be worthwhile for a sorcer with a short (less than one sentence) description. |
