| Kolyana02-15-07, 09:02 PM | So I have an opportunity to build a 9th level <something> thri-kreen (total 12 ECL) and I'm in the mood for building a total killing machine; some insane buzz saw DM's nightmare come true. If I can pick from any feat, any class (let's assume that it has to be in print somewhere), are there any recommendations as to what i could build? I'd like to take advantage of the 4 arms, perhaps ensure he has an insane critical range, but I'm totally open on his class ... maybe a fighter, maybe a barbarian, maybe even a thief/assassin type? Aside from class, feats and such, what type of magical items would round the character off nicely? The sheer range of choice is killing me! :p |
| Thubby02-15-07, 11:23 PM | this should be on the char ops board. but since i dont look around there: rogue has serious potential, with 4 arms worth of sneak attacks, most stuff wont last long. pyrokineticist (psi), with hand of fire, touch attacks(or natural weapons) just got ver painful. dervish (comp war). with all the attacks you get, chances are your gonna kill everything in reach before your done with a full attack, the dervish lets you move around and spread the love. fighter or monk can go far in grappling (im a fan of the spiked armor/gauntlet combo myself), since you have 4 arms, you put out that much more damage. if you realy dont want to deal with the huge penalty for multi wpn fighting, you might want to consider using a g sword 4 handed (thats 2.5 str to dmg... ouch),or use a tower shield, and g sword 3 handed, for a +4 ac, and x2 str on dmg |
| Kolyana02-16-07, 12:46 AM | this should be on the char ops board. but since i dont look around there: eep! really? I wondered where to post this and the description of this forum seemed to indicate here. Sorry if it's in the worng place! As for your suggestions, they all rock! I know that the scenario this little critter will be in is undead heavy, so maybe rogue will not work, because of the negated backstab, but dervish sounds awfully interesting! I'm going to look that one up. I like the whole idea of the 2.5 or 2x str, too ... that could be worth serious consideration. |

| Deekin02-16-07, 02:23 PM | Fighter 2/Swash 3/Dervish 4. Take Multiweapon fighting chain. you Will kill things dead. |
| keith18702-24-07, 10:21 PM | If you want to make your DM cry take the multiweapon fighting tree for tons of attacks, and whatever weapons you use make sure that they have wounding on them. Anything that's going to take ability damage you'll be able to tear down in a couple of full attacks. The biggest problem with lots of attacks is they tend to have not so great to hit bonuses. You're racial traits play well for a monk and almost every thri-kreen I've ever seen used since 2ed was a monk. |
| Dragoloth02-24-07, 11:17 PM | Go fighter or psy warrior with multi-weapon feat chain. Use either 2 spiked chains or 1 spiked chain and two one handers(or for an AC bonus sword and board on lower arms). Although a 9th level tri-keen knight with a reach weapon in one set of arms and a sword(or other one handed weapon) and shield in the other would be awesome. If you like the knight thats the way I'd go. |
| Rillek_Denar02-25-07, 02:08 AM | My current build for a Thri-Kreen is a 6th level character, Ranger 4. He wield two of the Thri-Kreen racial double weapon, the Gythka. Feats include Multiweapon Fighting, Oversize Two-Weapon Fighting, Two-Weapon Defense. 4 attacks per turn and only a -2 to each. You should also look up the rules for damage from falling objects, coupled with jumping reallllllly high. I favor Ranger, btw, because of the Combat Style. |
| Krusk02-25-07, 02:36 AM | Go monk, for flurry of blows. Then pick up keen wounding kamas. Go dervish asap. Not only do you get an insane number of attacks, but you will be dealing 1 point of con damage every hit. Pick up some boots of haste while your at it. Not many living opponents will last more than a round or two. Keen kamas simply so they hit more often, the con damage is where you do your hurting. If the dm starts to favor constructs or undead pick up some way of simply running from combat, your a monk your fast. grab the spring attack feat chain if you can. run 40 feet in, hit a couple times, run 35 feet away. |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi02-25-07, 01:23 PM | Personally, I recommend a warblade or swordsage specialized in the Tiger Claw discipline. A few of its maneuvers depend on jump checks which thri-kreen have a (+30?) racial bonus on. One of them even has a save DC set by that jump check. :schemes: Tiger Claw also focuses on two weapon/multiweapon fighting. You may want to check out the downloadable stat cards to see what Tiger Claw can do. I'm especially a fan of the stance Blood in the Water. Cumulative +1 to attack and damage for every critical hit. So a scimitar and three kukris give you a lot. Plus a bite as a natural attack. Take multiattack and improved multiattack to really go crazy. I especially like the maneuver that lets you deal rending damage based on the number of hits. Really, it's evil. Warblade would give you better BAB and more chances to hit, while swordsage will take advantage of the + WIS racial modifier (warblade is hurt slightly by the intelligence hit). Although IIRC, warblade adds INT to crit confirmation rolls, which is really important to you. And you can still make a smart thri-kreen. |
| Chimaera200002-27-07, 07:45 AM | I'd also recommend the swordsage and/or warblade from Tome of Battle. The thri-keen's large number of attacks and +30 to jump synergize very well with the Tiger Claw discipline, as Omnirahk noted. With your huge number of attacks, going the crit-monkey route seems to be the way to go; the Power Critical feat from Complete Warrior can go a long way towards making sure you get as many crits as possible. Another thing that you may wish to consider is the Feral template from Savage Species, which is (under-)priced at LA +1. It gives a number of neat benefits. |
| Zumarai02-27-07, 08:18 AM | If you want to make your DM cry take the multiweapon fighting tree for tons of attacks 18th level thri-kreen monk (2 monstrous humanoid HD) with Greater Multi-Weapon Fighting and a 10 Str: Full Attack: Flurry of blows +13/+13/+13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and bite +10 15 attacks per round. |
| The_Ditto02-27-07, 08:47 AM | I'm currently playing a Thri-kreen .. using a Longspear, Light Mace and Heavy Shield ... :D (I'm not really "optimized" .. but it is fun with all those attacks .. hehe ... don't forget your bite ... ) I'm heading into Warmind ... Expansion is just waaaay too much fun ... ;) I was playing around with a couple other ideas for Thri-kreen: 4 daggers or 4 kukris (ie dagger-wielder/thrower - it's been done before ... lots of builds out there ... ) I like the idea of wielding 4 kukris in melee, however ... crit range of 18-20 ... You'll be critting a lot ... hehe 2 Composite Long Bows (+x Str) Yeah, dual wield bows ... :D |
