OK, so my rogue goes into this room and picks up a scroll case. He opens the scroll case and time around him is acclerated 750 years instantaneously. Being human, this kills him and his body falls to dust (no save).

How do I get him back?!?

Um sounds like a ****** DM

But you cant do a thing. the rest of the party can use a wish to get you back tho...

No, my DM is great. Its the module. Its something from 1st edition I think that he modified. Yeah, its pretty bad...no chance of survival or ressurection. And he was lvl 22 too :(

The Module wouldn't be return to the tomb of horrors would it? I remember my DM saying something about a missing a trap like that once and i think that was the name of the module.

As for advice...what level are you guys? i know by the time we went through the module we had a couple of favors stacked up from gods, that woudl probably help. HMMMMMM otherwise i would say a wish or to could fix you right up. "I wish billy bob had not been aged by picking up that scroll." as long as your DM is a cool as you say he'll probably go for that.

good luck and don't touch anything in there. that place is DEADLY! On the other hand a wizard looking for lichdom will love the place, I know I did :D

EDIT: DOH! Missed your level there. assuming you have a party equal level, either wish or epic spells should fix you up...surely the gods owe you one too. :)

I was curious about something with this scroll..

He opens the scroll case and time around him is acclerated 750 years instantaneously.

..if time AROUND him is accelerated 750 years instantaneously and he dies..does that mean that he basically stands there for 750 years while time goes by as if in a moment to him? That's how it sounds to me. Like it is almost a semi-permanent hold spell or something.

If this is the case then the party SHOULD have time to acquire the gifts of the gods to help him out.

grab a sheet of paper and some six siders. Roll up new pc. And first edition items were occasionally nasty. Knowing this you learn never get to attached to a pc because death lurked around every corner and under every bed. And some times he brought friends.

SOunds to me that your character should be all right as time accelerated AROUND him. However you may still be out of the adventure.

now just create a wyrmling dragon as character and visit again the trap for an annoyed master

aging stuff was removed by a reason

Have the rogue kill himself in the trap, then get a 75th level cleric to true res him

You can't true res someone who died of age.

But suppose its not a natural aging?

It is natural aging. He just happened to be in a different time stream when it happened. And, yeah, doesn't sound like anything short of divine intervention is gonna help. Sorry.

It still makes for a bad DM to use something like that.

The way he worded it was that time around the character advanced 750 years in a blink of an eye and that he also aged with it and died and turned to dust.

Meaning in reality that this character just got a big ol hold spell put on em that lasts for 750 years that he can't do anything about..but that he actually sits there for 750 years but to him is seems like no time..which means there is PLENTY of time to put together a solution to the problem.

Now if it said that the character's body suddenly advanced in age by 750 years and turned to dust, then I would say that is screwed up..but that it couldn't be helped. :)

It sounds like the "weight of the wait" trap from Return to the Tomb of Horrors.

If you are epic level and kicking around in a fortress on the negative energy plane that is run by an archlich that is soon to be assuming godhood (presuming PCs don't interfere), then you should expect instant death traps. Especially when set by someone named Acererak. ;)

Even if upgraded to 3.x's standard of a save for EVERY trap, the suitable save would likely have been a Fortitude roll with a DC near 100 - which would probably have killed him anyhow.

Well there are more problems than just raising your character. Even if you do somehow find a way (and I would say nothing less than divine intervention would work because you died of old age) you still have everything you own that aged 750 years. After 750 years barely anything would last (short of it being an artifact). Anything made from parchment, liquid, leather, cloth, some metals would wear away, and I would think magic items weaker than artifact quality would be greatly diminished in power. But since 3.0/.5 dosent cover time damage at all who knows.
I would have at least given the character a save even if it would have been hard to make I would have given the character a chance to make it.

But sorry I dont think you have a chance of bringing the character back. Just make a new one. Do you want the character to come back with no gear in this place you are at? I know the character means more to you than haveing no gear, but will this character survive?

If it is a scroll that ages you 750 years, I'm thinking definitely you should get some kind of a save, first off. And I don't see being obviously magically aged, why in the world your character could not be resurrected, in my opinion you should only permanantly die due to true and natural aging, or touching spheres of Annihilation (sadly I have done that, stupid Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, :weep: ). I mean look at it like this if he won't give you a reasonable save DC, or save at all, then how about at least being able to come back.

I believe I remember this "trap" as well. It's not so much that time 'around' him just accelerated 750 years in the blink of an eye or that he 'aged' 750 years, rather, (remember, my memory is hazy here) that the area you are in is put into a differenct time stream by doing some certain action. It's not a spell directed at the player, it's more of the pulling the plug on a dam. Hence, the player is not directly affected, but for all intents and purposes, a certain discrete area he is in suffers the effects of being put under 750 years of time advancement, together with all items in it.

Yes, this was one of those lovely no-save/die events so common in 1st edition. To be honest, my call would have been you're out of luck with respect to saves or a true ressurection. A carefully worded wish/miracle may work, but in all honesty, you bought the big one chief. Sort of like walking through the black, dark archway holding one giant-sized sphere of annihalation. Given you are on a portion of the negative energy plane however, I don't know what the effects of a wish/miracle on that part of the plane, tenuously controlled by Acerak would result in.

My advice? Get some 'sixers, a pencil, and paper, and start rolling high. That and use them several times because you've probably got a few more deaths coming along in that module.

If you'e stuck in the room for 750 years then you starve or dehydrate to death(unless there is plenty of food and water) make sure your rogue dies from something other then age like dagger in the eye("a dagger in the eye is a dagger in the eye") then you can be true resed by a 75th level cleric.

Yeah, its Return to the Tomb of Horrors. We are in Acherach's Fortress of Conclusion on the Negative Energy Plane.

Heres some things to consider after we reviewed what happened and reached some conclusions:

1) Although time increased 750 years instantly, outside events did not occur in this time bubble. Thus, pretty much every object would survive ok, as there would be no erosion or deteriation caused by natural effects. i.e. no air movement, no dust, no rust, etc... So all objects are the same. My living flesh is gone, as it could not sustain itself, but the bones are still there and in fine condition.

2) The party cleric is a vampire with the death and magic domains. His god is a goddess of death and magic, who actually was the cleric's other character in a previous campaign who attained godhood. And the cleric is her first and favorite worshipper. And my rogue is a follower of hers too.

3) While time took place in that bubble instantaneously, once my character died, his soul would go on to the goddess. It would actually have just arrived shortly after the death occurred. So the soul has not been disconnected from the body for 750 years...really its just been a couple minutes.

So we are thinking that the goddess could return the rogue upon request of the cleric (via a miracle) as it seems likely that she would have that kind of power, being a goddess of death. Doubtful if he could be returned to his own body, given that its been 700 years since his body died.

So any suggestions on what might work then? The cleric thinks reincarnate should do it, and the DM is favorable to this, even though the spell description says otherwise. (Reasoning is, that reincarnate in the normal sense means coming back AFTER a creature dies of old age.) Returning as an undead could be likely too, especially given that we are on the negative energy plane.

BTW, I'm not opposed to a new character. I make new ones all the time, and did so just a couple days before for a different campaign. (We have lots of different campaigns going on.) This one though is well liked by everyone and nobody wants to see him gone, including the DM. Plus, the party here is very well balanced with a fighter, wizard, cleric, and my rogue. The new character would probably be a rogue as well, out of necessity, but that just seems dumb replacing a character with almost a carbon copy. And then having to come up with a personality different from the other one without defaulting into the previous character. It just makes things more difficult and takes away from the fun.

So I guess now we are looking at possible templates that would fit in appropriately. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks all for responding to this thread. Its become more interesting than I anticipated.

If you've got a cleric there, just get him to make you a mummy/morgh with Create Undead! Undead is probably better then dead in your case anyway.

Exactly. If the time is going by a billion times faster for the Rogue, then he's got a lot of time to think out his situation. Whether that means he starves to death, or kills himself, or zips off to go find something capable of dispelling the effect, he, at least, should not suddenly be informed that he has died of old age.

Ah, the memories.

I agree with just making a new character though. Even if the party goes on a quest to "fix" you, then you'll still end up just sitting around for a long time waiting for the quest to get finished.
