What class would best fit this type of character? He's an explorer type, so ranger might work, with extraplanars as the favored enemy, but the nature mechanics don't seem to fit. Rogue or wizard, or maybe a combination of the two might be a good choice. What do you guys think would be a good class choice? |

Ranger or Scout (if possible) into the Horizon Walker PrC (in the DMG) might work. I can't recall the Walker's requirements. There's also a Planar Ranger variant in Unearthed Arcana (and d20srd.com) that might be up your alley. |

They have the general know how and social skills to deal with people and trade, and is sort of mix of rogue and wizard by his very nature. Just take story telling as your perform skill, and tell about your adventurers in various planes to get your crew riled up for battle. |

Maybe you can mix the ideas given; a cleric/scout might prove to be quite decent at getting somewhere quickly and using spells to aid your movement. |
