| eroticnewbie04-25-05, 09:46 AM | Hey y'all! I need a little help, advice, hits that kind of thing please. Or at least a swift kick to send me in the right direction. I'm pretty new to D&D, my fiancee has gotten me intrested. I'm spending a week with him after exams and he's planning on us playing some. Wait, playing D&D some :evillaugh he DM's. I've been trying to get hits from him as to what we're playing, all I've found out so far is its similar to the starting adventures in the Call of Cthulu book. Could someone please give me a few hits so I have some clue as to what I'm up against or could be going against? I know he may very well alter it some, but I'd like to have some idea of what to expect. Thanks for any help, pointers anything like that. P.S. If my fiancee reads this, you can't change the adventure now! |

We have no idea what he'll write or send you up against, for the very simple reason that he can use anything. There are pregenerated adventures, but there are thousands of them, and there is a VERY good chance he'll run something created by himself. I'm not sure that you understand how this game works? Have you read anything in the Players Handbook? This would be a good start to learn the rules, but it is impossible to tell you what you'll be up against. |
| sherretz04-25-05, 10:21 AM | Very true. You should focus on reading the Player's Handbook for the time being. You need to get a sense of how the game works and how characters interact. It will also give you a chance to read over the races and classes to start to figure out what you would like to play. If your fiancee is introducing you to the game, just pick out and play what you would really enjoy the most. He can tailor the game around your character so that you both have a good time. Good luck and have fun!! Post back and let us know how it goes. |

| Siduakal04-25-05, 11:13 AM | Something I learned after my 20th "Godlike character" build being made.. Pick what you'd have fun as.. ...then min/max around that. |
| eroticnewbie04-25-05, 06:02 PM | I have read parts of the Players Handbook. I know he can write anything into this but my fiancee has made it sound as if he's gonna run it right by the book. Thanks for tellin' me to check the basement.Thats the kind advice I was hoping for. I know to design a character I'd have fun playing, but I also want her to be a decent character too. I just dont want the DM to be cutting my character a bunch of breaks. Thanks again for the help, I'd love any other tips from long-time players that your willing to share. I know you have to keep some secrets to yourself |
| TheDarknessWithin04-25-05, 06:40 PM | First of all, play a character or concept that you actually want to play. Doin't be forced into a class just because it would benefit certain players within the party. I've seen way too many new people get forced into a character concept that they didn't really want to play and end up quitting becuase they were unhappy with the results. Secondly don't be afraid to ask questions about how the game is played while its being played things like that can really help you understand other issues of the game and make it more enjoyable and fun to play. Thirdly have fun, and enjoy it, D&D is a game after all. |

Some of the creatures you run into are very friendly - even if they appear to be hostile or attacking. If you approach them with your weapons put away and your palms out, you should be able to get a friendly reaction and some help from them, as well as some cool treasure. A lot of the combat uses illusory creatures, which means that you can avoid/defeat them by closing your eyes and disbelieving in them - then they can't hurt you. Good luck. |

Of course, if that fails, you are so deinetly gonna be chopped to pieces. RIP(rest in pieces XD, bad joke). DON'T FORGET TO CARRY ENOUGH FOOD DMs usually enjoy having the players character suffer form hunger because they only brought food for 3 days, and the adventure lasted a week. And that can really hurt your character |
