THREE out of seven PCs in my party are Paladins and frankly I hate them!!!! :) Its actually comedic to see them screw up and have to get Atonement cast on them :D One of the Paladins thinks I'm his personal healer (I've saved him more times then not, and he really appreciates the Blur spell :cool: ) If I wasn't NG I'd let him crash and burn, in order to teach him some humilty. So how do you guys/gals deal with the burden of over-bearing Paladins???? Thanks
BaronGreen 04-17-06, 05:10 PM	If the Paladins need Atonement all the time they need to work on the whole lawful good bit. If they are getting really out of control tell them that your god has commanded to stop healing them until they clean up there act. I did this to our Paladin and he cleaned up his act pretty quick. :)
kelvinaw273 04-17-06, 05:13 PM	Just remind them of their mortality and frailty ... probably frequently if they are needing Atonement spells that often.
Flushmaster 04-17-06, 06:07 PM	Try reminding the players that paladins are generally supposed to be kind, gracious, and all that stuff. Also remind them that while it's fine to have one's character be a bit stuck up, rude, etc, taking it too far disrupts the gaming experience of the other players and makes the player themself a jerk. Then threaten to refuse to heal him (I like the "my god says you need to learn to be nicer/more careful/etc" idea) in game and to beat him with his own shoe out of game. You'd be surprised how often the latter works.

If I wasn't NG I'd let him crash and burn, in order to teach him some humilty. I believe he is saying that HE is NG and you could just not heal them and let them learn their lesson. BUT at least stabalize them if they need it.
Darth K'Trava 04-17-06, 08:28 PM	Tell him it's time he used HIS divine healing ability! That's why they have it. Then you go off and either bash the enemy or blow him up, leaving them to do whichever. You're out for the greater good. If it's better obtained thru direct conflict or attack spells, do it. They should do their own thing. And if they can't heal themselves, then they should rethink their lot in life as paladins and just go fighter as that's what they REALLY are.
Vaelan 04-17-06, 11:10 PM	If you are of the appropriate level (7 or higher would probably do it), duel one of the Paladins over healing duty. Buff yourself up under the guise of praying that nothing unfortunate should happen during the duel and annihilate the poor sap. He is now honor-bound to provide healing for the entire party for a pre-determined amount of time and not even an Atonement would get them out of this breach of their code, as Atonement requires one to be regretful, which would naturally mean following through on your wager.
Ralphius_Maximus 04-18-06, 09:15 AM	Why are they getting multiple Atonements? Losing your abilities once might be put down to carelessness or a minor indiscretion, but twice? Three times? How long until their God simply gives up and moves on to better things (and people)? One Atonement per Paladin folks. Otherwise it's just silly.

Ah, Alsa Pelys Lionheart... a twenty-three year old female Paladin of Alyx who splits her time between beating the hell out of the enemy, and beating the hell out of her own people in bar-room brawls for not drinking enough... ...perhaps "good, kind and considerate" depend on the god in question...
LivingShadow 04-18-06, 02:32 PM	if you can (just to get them big time) spike their drinks and get them drunk (in game) they are bound to do something that grossly violates the code (including getting drunk in the first place) this idea works really well if there is a rogue in the party to do it for you and on the pally who thinks of you as his medic HE HAS LAY ON HANDS so why doesn't he use them

So how do you guys/gals deal with the burden of over-bearing Paladins????So, as a NG character you feel obligated to correct the alignment-related behavior of the LG paladins? WHY? That is a problem for the DM - not for you as a player. As for the rest of it if your character finds their behavior objectionable because their characters seem reckless, ungrateful, and insincere about their class restrictions and commitments then perhaps you would best start by simply making in-character comments to them along those lines. Otherwise maybe you could take a level of paladin next level and then you'd either be one of the misfit gang or at least have a better reason to criticize their behavior.
