| corcio01-08-06, 09:47 AM | Ok check it out....at first i thought i would need a rogue....but i was wrong... DUN DUN DUUUUU ANYWAYS i have never played a cleric before.... so all i have managed to figure out sofar is that cleric spells are based on wisdom. so im assuming that wisdom would be my primary stat now what about the rest of the stats? and does alignement really matter? the party needs a primary healer... what do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO???? other than that i think i can figure out the weapons and armor and such but these domain spells are just confusing my poor tired brain.... so thanks in advance for any help i bow to your encyclopedic wisdom oh posters of the magnificent and useful message board |

If you upset your deity, you lose your class features, so it's important to be able to work for a deity whose way you generally get along with and can follow. Also, clerics of good alignment can swap prepared spells spontaneously for Cure Wounds spells, clerics of evil alignments do the same thing with Inflict Wounds spells, and neutral clerics (in most cases) get to choose during char creation whether they spontaneously Cure or Inflict. Domain spells aren't too tricky. Your domain spell list is kind of a secondary spell list. You select 2 domains when you create the character (taken from the domains of the deity the character follows, if he follows one), and you have 1 spell slot per spell level (except 0) that can only be used for spells from either of your 2 domains. Domain spells may not be prepared in your normal spell slots. As for your other questions I'll leave those to someone more qualified. |
| corcio01-08-06, 11:20 AM | so what about a lawful evil cleric he would need a lawful evil deity to use the domains of that sepcific deity correct? like hextor for example has the domains law and war and domination and some other ones...are those the only domains i can use right.... so what if i want a lawful evil cleric that can also be a good healer to my party....is that kind of a parodox or perhaps an oxymoron.....maybe a slight conundrum even...sorry im just uing fun words now.... no seriously how well would a lawful evil cleric work to be a party healer and divine caster...? |
| Shaggy_Shaggs01-08-06, 11:30 AM | Well, a cleric has to be either the same alignment as his deity, or only 1 step away from it on either the good-evil or law-chaos axis (not both). So a lawful evil cleric could be a cleric of a deity with any of these alignments: lawful evil, neutral evil, or lawful neutral. Going with the cleric of Hextor example, Hextor offers the domains Destruction, Evil, Law, and War, so you'd have to select any 2 of those. (I'd go with Destruction and Evil, but then I can use the book of vile darkness, so the ability to cast evil spells at +1 caster level is more useful there than it would be in a game without BoVD.) A lawful evil cleric can be a great party healer and divine caster, any cleric can - he just won't be quite as good at healing as a good cleric would be. As an evil cleric, you can't spontaneously swap your prepared spells for cure spells, so you have to guess when you're preparing spells, about how many cure spells you're going to need over the course of the day. As a good cleric, you could just not prepare any cure spells and still have exactly as many cure spells as you need, because any time you need a cure spell, you drop one of your existing spells for a cure spell. |
