My character is an 8th level dwarven fighter with the following stats and feats:

str:18
dex:14
con:22
Int:14
wis:10
cha:10

his feats are:
Endurance
combat reflexes
quick draw
iron will
die hard
weapon focus(Dwarven waraxe)
weapon specialization(Dwarven waraxe)
Greater weapon specialization(Dwarven waraxe)

alot of my feats were chosen to fit my character's backround and were also chosen for flavor. Hence, they may not seem incredibly logical to most people. I want to become a dwarven defender, but am struggling to find a way to do that and pick feats to make my dwarf more deadly at the same time. The problem is that a giant invasion of vampires has just begun and i need to find ways to deal with that threat as well. (i.e. close-quarters fighting to avoid those grapples where they drain constitution) If anyone has any ideas on how to help me acheive my dwarven defender goal and help me deal with the new threat of vampires i would greatly appreciate their suggestions.

I've run into a similar problem with my current character.

Your dwarf is a trusty pocket knife.

My half orc is a swiss army knife.

Both are good at what they do, but neither can do everything. My orc, being a bit of a generalist, can do alot of things in a decent fashion.. but is put to shame by specialists... such as in combat, your dwarf would show him up.

Now, as a dwarven defender... you're pretty darn awesome. As to the vampires... your best bet is to make friends with a nice cleric that has access to greater or exhalted turning.

:(

Look for feats that allow you to negate the Improved Grapple feat abilitty to ignore AOO's, look for a feat that allows you to add damage dealt to your grapple check etc

I can't remember the names, but the Complete Warriors book has some good feats to this effect...

Get an Alchemical Silver Warhammer of Disruption and Undead Bane as a backup weapon. (Or at least Silver WH of Disruption). Yes, they will make their saves most of the time, but a single miss means they turn to dust (no chasing them back to their crypts).

Also, a friendly cleric of with the sun domain (or better yet Sun and Glory) and a few feats like Heighten Turning and Improved Turning can dust one. Also Extra Turn + Exhaulted Turning can put some hurt on Undead of all types.

Take your axe, cut down a tree, and use the lumber to make stakes and holy symbols. That's all I can think of.

Well I think you are going to have to wait until you are tenth level before you can multiclass into the dwarven defender. You are lacking two feats, which you could take at 9th and 10th level. Upon 11th level you could then take the dwarven defender. ]

The other option is to ask your DM if you can exchange a couple of feats for the ones you need. It doesn't hurt to ask. Just say you didn't know what you were doing and had you known you wanted to take levels in the DD you would have taken the required feats earlier.

Close Quarter Fighting is a must for fighters. Dual wield those axes and take double hit and no one will ever be able to start a grapple with you. Well, provided you hit with the AoO. Is it deft opportunist that gives a +4 to AoO??? Then you are REALLY not going to be grappled.

When fighting vamps, the fighter's job is to take down its hit points and keep it busy until the cleric or wizard can do a number on it. the rogue... the rogue, being unable to sneak attack, sneaks around and pours upwards of a gallon of holy water in its coffin.

Aside from that, you'll want anti-domination gear (being the most prone to being dominated) and lots of nice silvered daggers if you do get grappeled.
