| snakeman83006-15-07, 11:09 PM | Yup, you read right: Remoraz. Those million-legged thingies in the MM that live on ice but deal fire damage. I've been informed that an up-and-coming campaign will have us all starting at 20th level. Each of us will be captian of a ship (effectively pirates) and we will travel to the seas of Stygia to give hell in hell. My character concept is an originally human captian used a power stone of True Mind Switch on an advanced Remoraz (16-17 HD for Gargantuan size, an ability increase (probably Dex), and allowed HD by the power) IMPORTANT: If you don't know what this power does, I strongly suggest you read it before replying. I don't want anyone saying I've only got three levels to work with, because I do have all 20. Books allowed are all core, XPH, Draconomican, Frostburn, and Complete Adventurer. SRD is another legal source. Ghestalts are allowed. If you don't think human is a good (base) choice, the allowable races are those in the PHB and those with the giant type. What I would like are class levels, equipment and feats that would, not only make this possible, but would also enhance it. This does not have to be a full 20-level build, just a general list would be fine. Oh yes, I have to pay my crew and buy the ship as well. (Though followers and Cohorts would not have to be paid) |
| utilitarian06-15-07, 11:31 PM | you're going to need a seriously large ship to accomidate your size my friend. Even if you fit on the deck, you're not going to be able to get into the cabin or hold. Then again I suppose the entire ship could be sized or an advanced Rhemoraz, but then you'd need a suitably large crew. |
| Waterhammer06-16-07, 01:02 AM | Yeah, the crew. Wouldn't you be likely to eat them, one, by one? Seems to me, that the prime attribute of a remoraz; is hunger. |
| snakeman83006-16-07, 11:58 AM | It is a human mind in a Remoraz body, though I suppose not eating the crew might be enough for payment... Okay, I've had thoughts on switching minds with a different creature. So far, my top secondary choice is a Young Adult Black. (The high swim speed and water breathing are the main reasons). Still, a Remoraz is my top choice. |
| Evil DM Mk306-16-07, 12:05 PM | Forget swimming, if you are going to hell you DO NOT want to end up in the water, just in case you end up in the Styx. Try for a humaoid shaped (not nessissarily type) creature for ease of use, remeber the world is built for thumbs. |
| esteigs06-16-07, 05:35 PM | if you switch bodies do you get the abilities of the body you are in? like, say being able to change shape as a dragon? if so, then become a dragon! dragons are awesome, breath weapon, fly speed, change shape, immunities, spell-like abilities, etc... must i go on? |
| snakeman83006-17-07, 09:55 PM | if you switch bodies do you get the abilities of the body you are in? like, say being able to change shape as a dragon? if so, then become a dragon! dragons are awesome, breath weapon, fly speed, change shape, immunities, spell-like abilities, etc... must i go on? Ummm, did you not read the part of the OP that suggested reading what the power did? I gain the physical ability scores, natural armor, mundane and extraordinary movement capabilites, size, and all extraordinary special attacks and qualities. I gain nothing tied to HD (BAB, skills, feats, hit points, etc., though I do get racial skill modifiers), and I gain no spell-like, psi-like, or supernatural abilities of any type. As such, I would not gain the spell-like abilities, breath weapon, or spellcasting abilities of a dragon. (however, DR, frightful presence, water breathing, spell resistance, etc. would remain). |
| Phrennzy06-18-07, 12:19 PM | As a Remhoraz, wouldn't your heat be a detriment on a ship? Plus, can Remhoraz even speak? :twitch: "Captain, what are your orders, sir?" :dragon: "BLARGLERAWRRGNASHGURGLE!" (Flash of heat incinerates crewman.) :twitch: "Uh, yessir." |
| Talisman06-18-07, 04:23 PM | I'm sorry, I have no useful advice, but thanks for the best laugh of the day. What a concept: Remorhaz Pirate Captain in Hell. Wait, isn't that the plot for Pirates of the Carribean 4? |
| KedynCrow06-18-07, 06:18 PM | Dear Gods why? Pretty sure the heat from your body will burn your ship into a little blackened sea-faring charcoal brickette...in Hell no less. Still...how freaking intimidating would it be to see a forty foot long red-hot ice worm scuttling around the necessarily massive deck of his ship hissing orders in rudimentary common. I'm pretty sure I've had this nightmare. Any-the-who, you've stumped me. Good luck, friend. |
| snakeman83006-18-07, 07:50 PM | Am I the one giving laughs here? Yeah, it's been pointed out on the char-op boards (where I also posted this) that I'd need to spend a bit of cash to make my ship immune to fire. |
| Talisman06-18-07, 09:07 PM | Now that I've recoved my breath... Do you want a melee combat character, arcane caster, divine caster, psionic, or what? (I'm guessing "archer" is right out the window...) |
| snakeman83006-18-07, 09:18 PM | So is "weapon master" Really, I can go with anything. I have no idea what is being covered by the others in the party. However, I can garuntee someone is doing "big bruiser". I have yet to fail at spellcasters (of any type), or psionics. However, psionics might be preferable due to their lack of components... *casting miracle* me: HISKIRATIKITHIKI diety:  WTF? To be honest, this guy is going to be my second character in the campaign. My first is an excersise for me: an elf scorcerer 20 with 3 hp (all from toughness) (4 Con, Frail flaw). My challenge with that is to see how long it will last. Since he knocks himself out half the time he hits in melee (merciful vicious rapier), I know it's only a matter of time until he's dead. Then I've got another character that my DM wants me to play (a balor, no class levels). He'll come in when this one dies (which I have no doubt my DM will make happen as soon as possible. I am following his guidelines, even if I am twisting them until they pass out from screaming). Don't worry about the demon, though. The Remoraz will have to come and go first. |
| Talisman06-18-07, 09:45 PM | To be honest, this guy is going to be my second character in the campaign. Since he knocks himself out half the time he hits in melee (merciful vicious rapier), I know it's only a matter of time until he's dead. And thanks for my second-best laugh of the day. I love your characters. I'd suggest psychic warrior, focusing on the natural-attack buffs. You'll already have a terrifying Strength, meaning you can sink more points into Wisdom. I'm not up on my psionic PrCs, though... If you're gestalting, I'd combine psion (egoist or nomad) with fighter. You get: fighter HD, fighter BAB, good Fort saves, and a ton of feats, plus mad psionic powers and bonus psionic feats. For a combat monster (literally) with more feats than you can shake a purple worm at, combine fighter with psychic warrior. Or, for psionic dominance backed up by physical prowess, combine psychic warrior with psion. Featwise, it's hard to pass up Psionic Weapon, Improved Natural Attack (bite) and Improved Critical (bite). If you've got a 2d8 natural weapon, it's a shame not to use it. |
| snakeman83006-18-07, 10:13 PM | I actually based the elf off of Nup-nup, the kobold who can't do anything (and actually has 0 hp) I'll admit that these two characters are my craziest ideas yet (though I'll surely think of more), and I love them. (Although a goblin wizard would be a lot of fun. Statistically, they're even better than elves for that class.) Ummm. I think Psionic Weapon is going to be useless for me. Did you mean Psionic Fist? Of course you did. Great ideas, all three of them. Unfortunatly, as my only weapon is a natural one, I cannot make more than one attack per round (barring AoO's), so I get far less benifit from a high BAB. |
| Talisman06-18-07, 10:36 PM | Ummm. I think Psionic Weapon is going to be useless for me. Did you mean Psionic Fist? Of course you did. :pbbbtt: No, I expected you'd play a swasbuckling remorhaz armed with a rapier. Stupid psionic feats with near-identical abilities and different names... Okay, here's a sadistic build. Gestalt psion (nomad)/rogue, pssibly with the Spring Attack feat tree. You've got your defense: Wizard: "Eat my punishing wave of destruction, you giant hell-worm!" Remoraz: (evasion) Wizard: :uh-huh: "Wait...where did he go?" Remorhaz: (hiding and moving silently). And your offense. Since you've only got one attack, why not throw a 10d6 sneak attack on it? Nomad powers let you blip about where you need to be when Spring Attack won't serve. |
| snakeman83006-18-07, 10:46 PM | :heehee I'd need to do something to counteract the -12 size penalty to hide, though. |
| Talisman06-18-07, 11:20 PM | I'd need to do something to counteract the -12 size penalty to hide, though. 21 ranks + 5 Dex + 5 Huge-sized cloak of elvenkind + 2 Stealthy feat + 3 Skill Focus (Hide) feat - 12 size = +24 Hide. :incog: I'm sure there are other Hide-buffers around. |
| dknight10006-18-07, 11:36 PM | oh man, you've got to do the rogue built, thats hilarious. Also, i think the dm should let you have boots of elvenkind... on every foot. just make it the same price, but only useful as a set. The idea of a big hellworm centipede with magical booties cracks me up. |
| Phrennzy06-19-07, 09:45 AM | :pbbbtt: Wizard: "Eat my punishing wave of destruction, you giant hell-worm!" Remoraz: (evasion) Wizard: :uh-huh: "Wait...where did he go?" Remorhaz: (hiding and moving silently). LOL. I picture the Remhoraz actually whispering "evasion" when he uses it, and then tip toeing (on all 1000 toes) up behind the mage. |
| Lionhearted06-19-07, 10:58 AM | Something about this just screams "steampowered ship" |
| snakeman83006-19-07, 11:28 AM | Something about this just screams "steampowered ship" Much more likely to be a Coldfire-powered ship (Coldfire Engine from Frostburn). It sounds like the rogue build is the favorite so far. Unfortunately, my DM decided yesterday that Ghestalts were out (though it wouldn't surprise me at all if his character had ghestalt levels  ) |
| Nentisys06-20-07, 10:42 AM | That's a pretty nice idea actually! I was laughing so hard when I read the rogue part.. that would be pretty cool. Anyway: some suggestions. Have you though of a monk? I second the suggestion to be a psion, that would be pretty powerful. Maybe add some template? |
| RealSorceror06-20-07, 02:23 PM | I'd highly suggest Psion. You're a big friggin worm with loads of Con and Str, so you can practically just stand there and blast people with joor mind taker beams without having to worry about being a puny little human. If you're still set on the Rogue/Psion build, you could always play a Lurk, although thats obviously less effective than a true Gestalt. OOH, what about Warlock? Every giant centipede needs a death ray. Plus, 24 hour flight and 24 hour see invisibility and magical darkness. Anyway, I think you really need some way to change shape. Either that, or just fly all the time with the Warlock's Fell Flight. The only thing meaner than a giant angry frost worm with death beams is a flying giant angry fros......well you get the picture. |
| RealSorceror06-20-07, 02:26 PM | Maybe add some template? Flying Creature Template? :plotting: Half White Dragon Template? :evillaugh |
| snakeman83006-20-07, 08:05 PM | Too bad Warlocks aren't in one of the allowed sources (the above sources are all that we have). Also, I did mention no templates (though classes that give you templates are a whole 'nother matter entirely). (wait, half-white? I see a Ring of the White Wyrm in my future...:evillaugh ) Is Lurk in Complete Psionic or Complete Adventurer? I can't remember which one I saw it in, but Complete Psionic is unavailable. Is there an item I'm missing that works like a Monk's Belt, except it grants abilities of other classes? (Rogue's gloves, for example?) |
| Far_Traveler06-20-07, 08:48 PM | People who are saying that the heat will burn up the ship: Heat (Ex) An enraged remorhaz generates heat so intense that anything touching its body takes 8d6 points of fire damage. Creatures striking a remorhaz with natural attacks or unarmed attacks are subject to this damage, but creatures striking with melee weapons do not take damage from the remorhaz’s heat. This heat can melt or char weapons; any weapon that strikes a remorhaz is allowed a DC 18 Fortitude save to avoid destruction. The save DC is Constitution-based. It applies when he gets angry. On that note, How about Barbarian Levels? |
| esteigs06-20-07, 08:51 PM | ... all i can say is... WTF |
| snakeman83006-25-07, 05:22 PM | So, this is possibly one of the wierdest character concepts these boards have ever seen, am I right? Oh, and :bump: |
| esteigs06-28-07, 10:00 PM | :pbbbtt: No, I expected you'd play a swasbuckling remorhaz armed with a rapier. Stupid psionic feats with near-identical abilities and different names... Okay, here's a sadistic build. Gestalt psion (nomad)/rogue, pssibly with the Spring Attack feat tree. You've got your defense: Wizard: "Eat my punishing wave of destruction, you giant hell-worm!" Nomad powers let you blip about where you need to be when Spring Attack won't serve. with one level of shadowdancer so you can pop out of their shadow... XP |
| Ioosef06-29-07, 03:02 AM | Ghestalts are allowed First of all I have to say that you misspelled Gestalt, but that's not very important. What I have to say is... Wizard/Psion. That's it, you're done, instead of going for a Remorahz which would be extremely difficult to fit in a ship, go for an Ogre Mage, you might only get regeneration, but it's still really cool. Or if you don't want that, go for a Titan, it might be kinda tough to get a titan to fail its saving throw, although it's possible, and once you do, sweet mother of god, you have a terribly high Con, which any spellcaster/manifester? can use, also, if you run out of spells and power (I don't know how that's possible), you can always use your extremely high strength. I think that's the best thing you can do, you end up with Str 43, Dex 12, Con 39 plus you normal mental atributes, you might not have all the spell-like abilities of the average titan, but you can always cast your own spells and powers, and since both Wizard and Psion use Int, you just max out in that and boy do you end up game breaking... So, this is possibly one of the wierdest character concepts these boards have ever seen, am I right? Well... I have seen people wanting to play a rabbit... but a Remorahz is basically the same thing. |
| snakeman83007-01-07, 12:26 PM | Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, Gestalts are no longer allowed... |
| Braekor Dragonfang07-02-07, 05:59 PM | well, since Heat for remorhaz only works when touching, and it actually has improved grab and swallow whole... GRAPPLE MONKEY! non advanced remorhaz (ECL roughly 12-13) Ftr 2 Reaping Mauler 5 invest in the Snatch, Snatch and Swallow, Large and In Charge, and other grappling based feats. get unusual armor with spikes (BIG SPIKES) name it the Crewman-Kabobber 3000 damage per round is i think 8d6 Fire + 2d6 unarmed + 2d6 spikes + Str + enhancement on armor Str possibility 48 (+19 mod) (18 base roll + 16 race + 3 level + 5 Manual + 6 Belt) 53 (+21 mod) with wishes if the crew acts up, impale, cook, and EAT!!! YUMMY!!! |
