Before you tell me to put this in the CO boards, i did, and have yet to get responses which i need fast as we are starting in a few days

Anyway...I need some help working out the details of my character. These are the things i know:

Stats are 32 Point Buy
Starting at 3rd Lvl
Standard starting gold (my DM has allowed me to break the 1/2 spending limit since mongrelfolk take a major penalty to charisma, the bards most important skill)

I want to play a mongrelfolk (RoD) bard. I have a basic idea, a con man and common theif, who uses a combination of music and magic to distract in order to steal, as well as using his music to cover up his crimes rather than bring joy, although he will use it to help his team

The only thing is, i dont know what to make my stats, or what feats to take. I have a general idea of what skills to take, the ones i think i need are:
Bluff
Speak Language (as a mongrelfolk and a bard it makes sense)
Hide
Move Silently
Perform (dance)

thats all i got

Thanks in advance.

I don't own that suppliment. What are Mongrelfolk and what stat adjustments do they give?

MOngrelfolks' racial adj. are +4 con, -2 int and -4 cha.

With such a penalty for cha, you should probably buy a 18 for it, especially if it is a long term campaign. If your cha is too low, you won't be able to cast higher spells as you progress. If you want him to be a good thief, you will probably need a good dex, like 14. So you would be left with 10, 10, 10, 12 or 8, 10, 12 ,12 or 8, 10, 10, 14. Personnaly, i would go with the last one and put the 14 on int and the 8 on wis. So your final stats would be: str 10, dex 14, con 14, int 12, wis 8, cha 14.

Another possibility would be str 8, dex 14, con 14, int 12, wis 10, cha 14 with weapon finesse as your 3rd level feat.

If you want a 16 to dex, the other stats would suffer: str 8, dex 16, con 12, int 12, wis 8, cha 14. Weapon finesse would definately be a must as your 3rd level feat.

As for skills, I suggest you add sleight of hand and perform[sing] to the list. Sleight of hand is the main skill for common thief and perform [sing] is more practical than dance for the bardic music ability.

Probably got the same info on the Optimization board, but playing a charisma based class with a race with a negative 4 charisma modifier is handcuffing yourself at the beginning. You definately need to pump that charisma score with your point buy, certainly no less than 16 to start, take the -4, and have a 12. You are in the positive ranges, and can use your next stat boost to increase to 13, etc.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for your help guys. I realize that with that penalty to cha im not going to be all that good, but the concept is just really awsome.

I think ill go with Str 8 Dex 16 Con 12 Int 12 Wis 8 Cha 14 to start, and buy a cloak of charisma right off the bat (thanks to my DM allowing me to break the rules this once)

And i know Perform(sing) is better than Perform(dance) but i think that Perform(dance) is better suited for this guy, although im also thinking of Perform(Wind Ins.)

*Smacks head* how could i forget to put Sleight of hand on the list...

Well i think im gonna have my skills be:
Perform (Wind Ins) or Perform (Dance)
Hide
Move Silently
Sleight of hand
Bluff
Tumble
Escape Artist

maybe not max out one or 2 of them in order to add Gather Info and Speak Language.

As far as feats, i think ill go with Weapon Finnesse and Resourceful Buyer (fits the concept)

As for weapons ill use a Whip as my primary, and carry a shortbow as backup.

But what about armor? with 8 str, i cant carry all that much so im limited to lighter armor...what do you think i should go with? keep in mind with the purchase of a Cloak of Charisma and the weapons i have about 900 gp left. So no really expensive armor.
