hiroshimahamster 12-08-06, 10:26 AM	Right... I'm an experianced player but I've come to a point where I've run out of ideas that a DM would allow. This is a one-shot campaign so I don't want to see any suggestions for leveling up (I'm looking at you, optimisers!). The party are level eight and I have 13000gp to spend. Annoyingly, my DM is also my boyfriend and has said that I can be ANYTHING I like, hence my problem. It's on Tuesday, if you're interested... Any ideas would be helpful - thank you!

hiroshimahamster 12-08-06, 10:47 AM	Its a homebrew campaign and the other players have chosen typical classes - mage, assasin etc - there's even a gnome artificer I think... Now I think about it they seem to lack a divine caster... Any suggestions?

Let's see, how 'bout, an eighth-level shrieker commoner, nah, been there done that. My first question is: what is everyone else playing? That will at least narrow down the list to archetype. Sometimes when I can't think of a character idea, I look for a miniature that is unique and build a character around that. The last time I did that I ended up with a sumo wrestling monk. He whole schtick was grapple, bull rush, and trip. I have a Hawaiian warrior with a shark-tooth club to try out as well. If I have to give one suggestion try Pixie rogue. Who doesn't like a rogue with greater invisibility as a supernatural power, +8 Dexterity, +6 Intelligence and can fly. :cheer: DR, SR, sis boom bah!

Fatalis_902 12-08-06, 02:57 PM	For divine casters, druids are my favorites. A cleric has better basic healing, though. Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker. That'll learn 'im. ;) Despite my suggestion to play a C.o.D., they actually seem to need one. The object of the exercise is not to make the DM side of this guy cry, while making the BF side hate her/ fear her. Frenzied Berserkers make peolpe cry. And not just mothers who let their children too close.;)

Also, if play a divine caster, I still like druids, but you should not play a C.o.D.-zilla unless you want to hurt this guy. Both mentally and physically.

FntsyWlkr 12-13-06, 12:48 PM	I like to do weird character backgrounds and then try to build it classwise from there. One really fun character I made was a "Valkyrie." She was a huge (6'3") beautiful ... outspoken ... drinking broad. I described her as a medevil biker-chick. Or like the ex-wife you would meet in the bowling alley. She was high CHR. With big STR and CON. Favored Soul/Bard mix. The role playing was fun, and her spell abilites proved to be team-buffing. Also high skills in geography/mapmaking made sure we didn't get lost and also saved us time in traveling.

In the end I went for a chaotic good human(?!) swashbuckler - and I spent most of the roleplay jumping and darting like a loonatic (much to the amusement and also annoyance of the DM). Can't believe I went for a human, but I needed the extra feat and skill points for my character concept (ex-acrobat/trained in swordplay by a pirate) I would have gone for a druid or cleric, but this is a list of the characters present: 2 chaotic evil sorcerers (one elf, one human) 1 neutral good half-elf druid 1 chaotic 'good' human cleric/rogue - supposed to be good, but pickpocketed me and then found themselves on the end of my rapier :P 1 chaotic evil elf rogue/shadowdancer 1 chaotic neutral(?!) half-fiend fighter - DM tweeked the template a bit so they didn't have to be evil (not what I would have done in that position but hey) 1 neutral good gnome artificer As you can plainly see, had I chosen a spellcaster, combat would have been much harder - only the DM, the gnome and myself had ever played DND before, and only I had much experience of casting spells. It was 'interesting' to say the least... Damn rogues... Stealing my money... Me poking them within an inch of their lives... Warning them not to try it again or else... THAT kind of roleplay... That swashbuckler is going to stay in my archives as a good character - because of all the noobs, she didn't get much chance to shine, but I'm sure I can find a use for her... *plots evil DM plans*
