| dauntenightshade02-25-04, 10:30 PM | Joining a new game and we are starting at 10th level. Never really had to start a character out at that high a level. Any suggestions for it would be great. Think im going to go with a sorcerer or a cleric. Going with starting gold from DMG guide, 75 point buy system plus the two from leveling. The other characters i know are in the group are a dwarf monk, dwarf barbarian and a kobold monkey man from OA. I think another person is prob going to be a rogue thats why im leaning towards a more support class. Any Idea's greatly appreciated. thanks in advbance. |

HERE (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=2623380#post2623380) is a level 9 wizard that I made for a challenge posted by Dalaeck. He is version 3.0 and uses only non-optional equipment out of the 3 core books, but I think his build and tactics would be fine for a normal game as well. And he is quite detailed as far as gear, tactics, and a bit of backstory. If noone else is playing a cleric or druid, you should probably go for that, though. You can do without an arcane caster easier than a divine one. Also, if you are looking mainly for a powerful character build, you might want to ask on the Character Optimization board, once you have a general idea of what you want to play. (i.e. melee focused cleric, etc) |

| Heron_Marked_Blade02-27-04, 09:36 AM | I'd go with Cleric. Much more versatile than a Sorcerer, and increases party effectiveness more than a Sorcerer does. The classic 3.0 cleric build was an Elven cleric archer of Solonar Thelandira (War, Elf domains). Focus on Wis and Dex as main stats, and enjoy Persistant Spell buffs. Don't multiclass (and make sure you keep spellcasting progression, i.e. +1 CL PrCs). That presumed you were using Forgotten Realms deities and a [generally acknowledged to be] broken feat, however. The build still works pretty well in 3.5, even without Persistant Spell or Solonar Thelandira. I'm more of a fan of melee clerics. Making the touch attack with a touch spell doesn't provoke an AoO (you are considered armed), so no problem there. You're also within range to heal your fighter buddies, although you could go Cleric archer and then take Reach Spell (DotF) to cast touch spells within 30 feet. Lots of options available to you. :) |
