CriminalTruth 07-14-06, 08:43 PM	Sooo im planning on doing a " race " rebuild from the PHB2 my group is slightly UN nerfed... and unbalanced.. hence why the rebuild. anyway.. here is my " house ruled " char. sooo please help with suggestions. CG elven ashimer lvl 17 cleric ECL 18 ( ashimer is played as a template and no where near powerful at ALL with the group im in.. ashimer template is +1 level ) anyway the feats i have are as follows ( i have never attempted to play a cleric in D&D BEFORE ) and my feats i took sucked hardcore. ( also of note all the " buff spells " such as bulls strenght go by 3.0 rules in the game i play ) so here are my feats extra turning ( useless as of now but will keep for divine meta magic.) celestrial blood line ( worthless) outsider wings ( worthless trying to get rid of them through race rebuild ) improved initative maximize spell intiate of tamora before u blast my feats i KNOW they suck... but thats why the PHB2 comes in handy.. anyway so at first i thought i would like to surpress my celstrial heratige ( free up feats of course such as clestrial blood line and outsider wings ) gain an extra lvl of cleric and whola pick up divine metamagic , and divine spell power ( alot of the creatures we face like bosses have a sp of 34 or so.. ) but then i had an idea............ what if i go " half celstrial " and explain that i embrace my celstrial heratige and im trying to become an angel? ...then of course righteous might and divine power get insainly more powerful not to mention the stat bumps to str and con and etc etc .. of course i would lose 2 lvl's of cleric but i would still gain divine metamagic and divine spell power.... BUT THEN.... i got to thinking... if the dm would let me.... could i trade in the lvl of ashimer for a lvl of astral deva out of the savage species book???!?! ( how cool would that be to just to astral deva the rest of the game? ) and this game seems to be one that is going to be going into epic levels ... SO... the question is... which choice would you do and in which order? and what feats would you change for which feats and why? thanks for any help any of you could give btw my domains are travel and luck ( which seems exceedingly effective to the max ) just because of the teleporting, re-roll any die type of deal you get plus the 10 rounds of freedom....so i doubt i would change my domain. but other than that.. any thoughts?
TheChilliGod 07-14-06, 10:07 PM	Hm... Let me get this straight. You = Aasimar Cleric Lvl 17 (Aasimar being a template in your campaign). You made some bad feat choices, and feel like changing your race in order to add a bit of spice to the character. You have thought of either removing your aasimar template and gaining full levels in cleric; through the magic of PHB2, rebuilding your race to add the Half-Celestial template (replacing the aasimar template?) to the character (taking out levels in cleric as appropriate); or of adding levels in the savage progression of the astral deva instead. And you want to know what we would do in your (rather unique) situation. Well, if I was me (and I am me, so yay!), then I would likely do... absolutely nothing. Oh, I might just replace my feat selection with more *ahem* thematic feats (y'know, making the feat selection more or less celestial) but that would be about it. Why? Because I believe that, when one strives to become a celestial, the best way to do that is to follow the righteous path as much as possible, do good things and think good thoughts so that, when you die, your soul will be transformed into a celestial of its own; rather than to actually quest to gain celestial powers right here and now. (The difference is that you're looking at a more long-term goal for your character that can be more easily roleplayed, and it saves putting strain on the DM for having to provide you with a quest to change your race.) If I had to change my race, I'd remove the Aasimar template. Seriously, if you need to make your character better, piling on LA is almost always not going to help. Any min-maxer will tell you that. That, and I pretty much hate savage progressions (It should really be all or nothing, IMO), so I would never take "levels" in astral deva. Hope I helped.
