| Gaeas_Liege2301-08-07, 04:57 PM | Im debating on using The Underdark as a camp. setting...I have read the Legend of Drizzt Trilogy, and am pretty familiar with undardark monsters and characters, and was hoping for some opinions |
| Narthon01-08-07, 05:20 PM | Do you have a more specific question? The underdark can be a fine campaign setting. |
| Azezel01-09-07, 12:40 PM | Do you own 'The Underdark', as in the FR setting book. It might help. |
| Gaeas_Liege2301-09-07, 01:52 PM | Do you have a more specific question? The underdark can be a fine campaign setting. well, I am trying to think of some easy underdark monsters to start the group off with so they just don't die at first level |
| Dei01-09-07, 02:33 PM | Um, easy? Underdark? Wow if ever two words didn't belong next to each other... Kobolds, orcs and goblins have a lot of underground tribes in the upper underdark, they're about the only thing I can think but even they tend to be a little tougher than their surface dwelling cousins. There's a reason that most underdark campaigns are level 6 and up, it's supposed to be a dark and terrible place where most maps simply say "Yeah, just don't go here, it'll be bad". |

Why not start on the campaign in the surface lands until the party is strong enough to venture into the Underdark? |
| Zherog01-09-07, 05:30 PM | The following creatures from the SRD have a CR of 3 or less and are listed as a terrain of "underground:" CR 1 Darkmantle Drow Duergar Fungus, Shrieker Grimlock Svirfneblin Troglodyte CR 2 Choker Skum CR 3 Derro Ethereal Filcher Fungus, violet Grick Ooze, gelatanous cube Phantom Fungus Rust Monster So you could easily have a first level party encounter drow or duergar scouts. One NPC level won't affect the CR, and as the party levels, you can toss on additional level, including "regular" classes instead of NPC classes. |
| Gaeas_Liege2301-09-07, 07:32 PM | Right. Why not start on the campaign in the surface lands until the party is strong enough to venture into the Underdark? You know, I like the thought of that...It'll open the story line up more too. Like, they can be part of a recovery party to find a missing person or something. |
| Krusk01-09-07, 07:47 PM | Or you could go for a horror game. ANd trap a low level party in the underdark. They are helping dwarves clear a mine of kobolds that their mine ran into a cave of, level 1 adventure. Then the mine colapses from some malfunctioning kobold trap. They have two options. wait and hope the dwarves can clear the wreckage, and that it didnt flatten their city. or they can risk it in the underdark. Their mission simply becomes getting back to the surface world. Id recomend not even telling them underdark until they realize thats what is down that mine a ways. |
| SneakyPetey01-09-07, 08:14 PM | These are all great ideas, Gaeas_Liege23, it looks like you're off and running... ... Now get to work! ;) |
