| sabbattack05-22-05, 06:24 PM | I'll try to stick to the imprtant parts to make this story sort. I've decided to do some "wet-work" (slang for "not so legal jobs") and my char got a job to scare(and beat a little) the local mayor. My dm asked me to tell him my plan in advance (off-game) so he could prepare the whole thing. Ok, I came up with a plan of breaking and entering and beating him, but at the last minute changed it in-game by entering and informing him for the plan against him. So, we got into an argument beacause he said I couldn't do that, since I had already given him a plan, so he proceeds the story without my ok, things ending up with an eventual arrest (which I think of pure rail-roading). What can I do now? I mean off-game of course. Should I make a fuss or swallow it and move on with the game? I never have had an argument, even slight with him before and he usually avoids such actions. |

| Arden Blackleaf05-22-05, 07:27 PM | "Bounces in" Try and be reasonable, Ask your DM if you can replay the scene or something. If not, Your DM has proven himself a complete and utter :censored: . "Bounces out into the sunset" :D |
| TheSilentF05-22-05, 08:02 PM | Hm, i would just be like you know what, **** it. I imagine if you were planning on breaking into the mayors home and beating him half to death then you are probably somewhat of a skilled thief? Well, just take that skill and use it to escape from the prison. That way, while the entire town is looking for you, then you slip into the mayors house and have a "talk" with him... |
| Edymnion05-22-05, 10:00 PM | Any great general will tell you to plan as best you can before a battle. And when the battle begins, throw away your plans. But, I can feel some sympathy for your DM. He worked up an adventure for you, which you pretty much intentionally went out of your way to screw up. His reaction in game was wrong, he should have just sucked it up and moved on. But again, you did go out of your way to intentionally throw a monkey wrench in his plans. So its about 50/50 IMO. You did wrong at the start, and he did wrong at the end. |
| Rumple_Cragstan05-22-05, 10:10 PM | First off, I would personally leave the game. Secondly, I would NOT have told the DM what I was planning. At most, I would have told him that, yes, I was planning on sneaking into the Mayor's house; but I would NEVER tell him how or for what purpose. That way, the DM is forced to make it realistic, not plan it so no matter what your character does he gets arrested. But if you want to stay in the game, just honestly tell him what you think of his DMing. A player did that to me about a year and a half ago, and scince then I've done the biggest leap of skill in my entire gaming life. If he's a mature person in the least, a little criticism will do him good. And if worst comes to worst, he quits DMing and you give it a shot. |

If he can't handle you doing something that he didn't prepare for, well, that's not good, that's what it is. |
| mrshupizdumaterinu05-23-05, 04:29 AM | Laugh in his face and say you pwned him with your l33t skillz. |
| sabbattack05-23-05, 05:56 AM | Well, about the fact that he had planned something, that's bull :censored: . Maybe I didn't say this clearly but when he asked me to tell him his plan, it was while in the session and about 5 mins later we played the scene in front of the others. So, what Edymnion said about both taking 50% of the fault would be right if he had some time to actually come out with a plan. Funny thing is, he plays out the scene where I got this assignment correct but IMO was thinking I would be enough chicken NOT to accept it. In any case... DUH!!! Now I think I'll let it pass. For those wandering, my char ain't a great thief but is a Dhampir (Half-Vampire from Ravenloft, with spider climb at will, domination at CL 12, children of the night etc BUT at L.A +8) so that gives me too few class levels compared to the rest of the party (average lvl 15). Anyway, I think I'll probably fast-talk or DOMINATE(we're playing d20 modern-past) my way out of jail just to get in his nerves. DOMINATE with radious 30ft and save DC 21 isn't just everyday stuff for the common jail guard!! Thanks for the suggestions!! |
