OK, I need to design a character, so I can show my players how. I have made this:

Amaryllis Gemflower, 1st Level Halfling Rogue.
Alignment: CG. Diety: Olidammara. Size: Small. Gender: Female.
Age: 30 years. Eyes: Black. Hair: Black. Skin: Ruddy.
Str: 10. Dex: 17 (+3). Con: 10 (0). Int: 14 (+2). Wis: 10 (0). Cha: 11 (0).
HP: 6. AC: 16. Init: +3. Fort: 0. Ref: 5. Will: 0.
Base Att. Bonus: +0
Short Sword: Att Bonus: +1, Damage: 1d4, Critical: 19-20/x2, Range: -, Type: Pierce, Notes: 1lb.
Light Crossbow: Att Bonus: +4 (unsure on factoring range incurtion - see below), Damage: 1d6, Critical: 19-20/x2, Range: 80ft, Type: Pierce, Notes: 2lb.
Dagger: Att Bonus: +1, Damage: 1d3, Critical: 19-20/x2, Range: 10, Type: Pierce, Notes: 1/2 lb, light.
Armour: Type: Leather, AC Bonus: +2, Max Dex: +6, Check Penalty: 0, Spell Failure: 10%, Speed: 20ft, Weight: 7-1/2lb, Special Properties: N/A
Other Items:
Backpack w/ Waterskin - 2GP - 1-1/2 lb (1/2lb + 1lb)
One Day Trial Rations - 5/10GP - 1/4lb
Bedroll - 4/10GP - 1-1/4lb
Sack - 1/10GP - 1/8lb
Flint and Steel - 1GP - N/A
Thieves Tools - 30GP - 1lb
Hooden Lantern - 7GP - 2lb
3pt Oil - 3/10GP - 3lb
Case w/ 10 Crossbow Bolts - 1GP - 1lb
Total Weight: 7.875lb
GP: 12
Skills:
Decipher Script: 4 (2+2+0)
Disable Device: 6 (2+4+0)
Disguise: 2 (0+2+0)
Escape Artist: 7 (3+4+0)
Hide: 11 (3+4+4)
Jump: 6 (0+4+2)
Move Silently: 9 (3+4+2)
Open Lock: 9 (3+4+2)
Ride: 4 (3+1+0)
Search: 6 (2+4+0)
Tumble: 7 (3+4+0) [Armour Check Penalties]
Use Magic Device: 4 (0+3+0)
Feats: Nimble Fingers.
Special Abilities: Sneak Attack +1d6, Trapfinding.
Languages: Common, Halfling, Elven, Goblin.

OK, now I have a few questions:
1) How do you factor in the Range Incurtion to Ranged Attack Bonus?
2) What is PG on the items table?
3) Have I do it all right?
Please tell me if I've missed anything out too.
Cheers
Chris

Another question, which page is the swords table on? I can't see it.

The Age should be in years not pounds, unless for some strange reason that is how they messure time in Greyhawk.

Also what Color is Ruddy? Did you mean Ruby instead?

Also I see your modifier is 1 too high for your attacks with each listed weapon. Unless ofcourse those are all masterwork weapons. If they are Masterwork weapons you need to note that on the character sheet.

1) -2 to that attack roll for range incrument past teh first one (this is comulitive IE 3 range increments = -6 on the attack roll).

2) The only thing I can think that PG means is Page

3) You have most of it correct, see my above post for the minor mistakes I found glancing this over.

PG means the Price in Gold for the item. If it's in silver, I just write 1/10, or 3/10 or whatever.

Ruddy is a reddish, flushed skin tone. It is more a secondary description of skin colour, but he definitly didn't mean ruby.

FYI, thank you for designing/rolling/creating a first level character that has believable stats, no incredible feat trees, and is a perfect core example of a character. Very nice to see this every so often.

Thank you very much. I tried to think of what this rogue would use to survive, not just how powerful he has become.
Thanks to all who responded. Editing character now.

Just to clarify Range Incurtion....

I do not factor it into my attack bonus, it's factoredin only when making the attack, depending on distance?

That's the idea. The range increment is a set of lengths beyond the stated range of the bow, you don't add the penalty unless you're shooting beyond it. In beginning games, I don't think there's going to be much space for you to shoot beyond your bow's range.

As a Small character, shouldn't she be using a small (1d4 base damage) shortsword?

Pages 116 and 117, PHB version 3.5. Dmg (S) column.

May be different in 3.0 or SRD, I have neither so I can't answer for those, sorry.

If you're referring to the OP's example character, once the kinks are worked out, that would be a decent character to start with.

If you're referring - as the subject line for your message seems to imply - to a drow assassin :nonono: ...bad idea. Too many racial and class features to keep track of, level adjustment, and requirements to get into the prestige class necessitating being a multiclass character.

The attack bonuses are correct once you factor in the +1 for being small. Small characters get a +1 attack bonus on all attacks according the PHB page 20. The short sword should be small, doing 1d4 damage.
Also, you have no ranks in tumble or search. Search, along with disable divice (remember that trapfinding class ability), and Tumble are the bread and butter of many rogues. Not that you have to have them, but they are usually the last throw away skills for any rogue. Your skill selections look more like a ranger than a rogue in many ways.

It is a good first character, don't get me wrong, but if you're looking for advice, than this is mine.

If the short sword in 3.5v has a 1d4 to damage, then I stick with the 3.0v (1d6) for a very long time.

It depends on the size of the shortsword. Weapons made for smaller characters are smaller, and they do less damage. Bigger characters' weapons do more damage.

A shortsword built for a halfling does 1d4.
A shortsword built for a human does 1d6.
A shortsword built for an ogre does 1d8.

Etc

In my opinion, a short sword for a halfling is called a dagger. But this explains a lot.

Isn't there a difference between a dagger and sword? One stabs, one slashes imho.

As noted above, at this moment I play 3.0v. Maybe the rules are changed, but 'back in the good old days' a dagger and the short sword both stabbed.

For swords it depends on how they are made, for example a Short Sword is weighted in a manner to be best used for peircing. A Katana is best used for Slashing. Daggers and stilletoes are best used for Piercing, while Knifes are best used for cutting/slashing.

This is not to say that the weapons can't be used in other ways.

Your god's name is Olidammara, not Olimaddara.
