| AzarKing04-03-05, 07:13 AM | In our four man group, we usually get along good, combat rolls along without too many bumps and role playing is pleasant to do. ...our Druid, a human who is level 16th and follows Mielikki(sp) was given a Ring of Fire Immunity (check Epic level handbook...) I am a Fighter 8/ Wizard 8/Spellsword 2 and my best weapon is a Keen Shortsword +2 and my armor is a Mithral Chain +1. Somehow, i think the druid got a better item, too high for their level...and that I am shafted in terms of being properly equipped. How might i address this to the benefit of both sides? :) |
| Cold Napalm04-03-05, 08:01 AM | Okay...+3 and +1 item at level 18...so you have less then 10% of the wealth. You should be considered level 16 at least if not lower for exp with this low treasure. Unless you have some massive huge amount of spells anyways or expendables. Epic items in a non epic game is a HUGE nono anyways. Have the DM come here and tell his side. Anyways from your side, if it was me, I'd tell him off about my current treasure level, make a new character with standard treasure...use a CO board build(or one of my nastier builds) and make the DM sorry. |
| AzarKing04-03-05, 08:38 AM | Thanks for the reply, here is a question-how good a substitute weapon is this? Cold Iron Vorpal Short Sword of Dispel Magic +4 As per cast by a 15th level WIzard. And as for a substitute ring...we considered using a Ring of Fire Resistance 50...how is this? Too high? Too low? We are going to work out prices and how this treasure will be located(and how her current one will have *mysteriously* vanished;)*) |
| Cold Napalm04-03-05, 08:48 AM | 50 might as well be invulnerable. 30 is as high as you should go non epic. That sword is a +9 eqv...i.e. near epic weapon with double cost for cold iron and around another 100k for the dispelling aspect. So, it's something you should have at level 18+ as a fighter type. Note that is around a 400k weapon. |
| AzarKing04-03-05, 09:06 AM | Thank you for the advice on the ring, 30 is what we'll set it at. :) As for my weapon, the DM thinks it's still overpowered, but we'll tweak and work on it, so it won't deviate too much lower or higher. |
| Cold Napalm04-03-05, 09:16 AM | From an optimization point of view...vorpal is a very weak + 5 enchantment. instal kill less then 5% of the time vs +5d6 damage all the time. DM see vorpal and over react as well...so I'd say ditch that and replace with...well depends on what books you can use but flaming, frost, corrisive, sonic and shocking works and the DM will most likely be less jumpy. Also it need to be greater dispel magic for CL 15...and also nigh useless at your level so ditch it to make the DM happier. Remember the dispel enchanment is to use as a standard action on something you will fail most likely or attack...it's not dispel every hit (or your looking at some epic level enchantment there). |

Note that is around a 400k weapon. That sword's base price is 164,000; cold iron does not double the price of the item, it increases the cost by a flat 2,000g because it's difficult to enchant. The ability to dispel magic should be priced depending on how often the blade can use that ability. I'd also agree that 50 fire resist is more than you'll reasonably ever need. |
| Cold Napalm04-03-05, 03:19 PM | One of the bookd have a dispeling/greater dispelling mod for weapons...costs +x amount of gold. Stanard action to use makes it kind of a suck mod for the most part. |
