| Ranger_ORB01-13-05, 08:35 PM | My Dm always "babies" a character, the worst part is that the character is the player who has played the most. example: This is after his character stabbed mine through the stomach Me: I pull out my twin scimitars and attack Dm: I warn you if you attack him i will kill you Me: fine i put my swords away Other Player: When he turns around I attack him Me: Thats not fair Dm: Roll your attack other occasion Other Player: How Much damage does that do(32 hp left) Dm: it does 65 Other Player: S*** Im dead Dm: Nevermind he attacks you(points to me) Me: Thats not fair Dm: what are you down to Me: Im dead (-31) Dm: Roll a New character I know its not fair but i still want to play but i want to correct this problem |
| Lokien al'Castor01-13-05, 09:46 PM | Thats perhaps the worst story of a DM ive ever heard. it could be that the character that he keeps babying is key to some elaborate story hes trying to make work but other than that (which still isnt much of an excuse) your Dm is obviously just playing favorites. Id suggest just leaving the group and taking whoever else in your group has become dissatisfied about this situation. however since you mentioned that you wanted to stay with this group i would say your only option is to suck it up wait till this campaign is over and then ask someone else to DM if others are unhappy with your current DM youll have plenty of backup |
| SmokeShadow01-14-05, 01:09 AM | :OMG! Don't bother with any sort of reconciliation. You're DM obviously has something against you, or is the worst form of human scum. Either way, people like that aren't worth knowing. |
| Thorak01-14-05, 08:09 AM | Next session, make sure you sit next to the DM. And when he does something like this, stab him in the thigh with your pencil. If he doesn't let people sit next to him because they could see his stuff, then bring an extra-large supply of dice, preferably ones you don't mind losing. And instead of stabbing him in the thigh, whip the extra dice one at a time at his head. Seriously, I can't believe he doesn't know what he's doing, so let him know it's unappreciated. Forcefully. |
| Phrennzy01-14-05, 09:45 AM | I think the DM :inlove: the other player. Perhaps you are jealous because you :inlove: the DM. The other player only attacks you because he :inlove: you. So you have this wicked :inlove: triangle. OOh, how I envy you. |
| Thoronmir01-14-05, 10:13 AM | The solution is simple. Stuff your DM into a box, then ship the box to Tennessee so I can kick his ***. I'll pay the postage. BTW, the time to decide that the "Whatever Can Inflict 65 HP Damage" swings at you and not the "Golden Child" is before he attacks. :D |
| Ze_Mighty_Vegetable01-15-05, 12:53 AM | I think the DM :inlove: the other player. Perhaps you are jealous because you :inlove: the DM. The other player only attacks you because he :inlove: you. So you have this wicked :inlove: triangle. OOh, how I envy you. Ouch! Sugar overdose! Hippie alert! Fruitopia-adds-like hallucinations imminent! seriously, Thoronmir, you should be ashamed to suggest beating the DM. violent acts like that is what gives gamers a bad name (I mean, come on, who hasn't had to dispose of the bodies of a few annoying players?). The answer is simple. Either slow torture or Pavlovian conditionment. Ex: DM: The monster decide to attack YOU instead of (favorite PC), as it would hurt him. YOU: :: whacking him a few times with a large piece of wood :: Bad DM. Bad. repeat as needed. In a few sessions, even the dumbest DM will realize they are doing something wrong and asks you if something's bothering you. Or he'll just learn to equate favoritism with pain and fairness with well-being. works every time. |
| Kadasbrass01-15-05, 01:29 AM | I have to agree, it would be difficult to image your DM not realizing what he is doing... Maybe you did something he hates? There is no clean way out of this, you can either volunteer to DM for a day or grap the DM aside when no one else notices and ask him whats his problem. Or there plan C which is really messy and just kill the other player... But I don't recommand this one. Are these people your normal friends? It be easier then to find out why. If not then its easier for you to consider finding a different group. |
| Kyaran01-15-05, 02:27 AM | Next session, make sure you sit next to the DM. And when he does something like this, stab him in the thigh with your pencil. So you have this wicked :inlove: triangle. OOh, how I envy you.I think I :inlove: both of you. In a purely platonic way, of course. Do Thorak's one. If you need more dice, I'll send 'em to you. |
| DrWorm01-15-05, 02:50 AM | I :inlove: :inlove:ing :inlove: triangles! |
| e-z0r01-15-05, 08:11 AM | I think the DM :inlove: the other player. Perhaps you are jealous because you :inlove: the DM. The other player only attacks you because he :inlove: you. So you have this wicked :inlove: triangle. OOh, how I envy you. It's like the Bold and the Beautiful with rapiers and scimitars! It's all I've ever dreamed of.. |
| Shai01-15-05, 11:25 AM | It's like the Bold and the Beautiful with rapiers and scimitars! It's all I've ever dreamed of.. Tune in next week when "Other Player" turns into a Succubus and kills all y'all Only on NBC4. |
| Nitan01-15-05, 12:15 PM | Shoot him...in the face...with a hammer. Twice...no make that thrice. If you are worried about the illwill that might cause, might I suggest "making him dissapear" and replacing him with a poorly paid actor? ...say no to drugs kids. They make you see things that aren't there. They also make you think you're funny when you're not! |
| e-z0r01-15-05, 08:43 PM | If you are worried about the illwill that might cause, might I suggest "making him dissapear" and replacing him with a poorly paid actor? Will it be a Spanish actor? "¡OY! ¡Es is el gringo! ¡Yo soy un narcotropicanto columbiano! Buenos dias mios compadres, vamonos a la playa?" .. "¡MARIA! ¡¿Porque, Maria?!" |
| TRCEttin01-15-05, 11:54 PM | If you really want to play, talk to the DM about how you don't think it's fair. If he still doesn't change, start every turn of yours in a battle by sarcastically saying "I sit there and do nothing while (name of Other Player) fights. Somehow, all the enemies will focus their attacks on me as soon as Other Player looks to be in trouble, and everyone else will be free to attack them." and spend every battle doing nothing! Of course, if your DM is enough of an idiot to do this in the first place, it probably won't work. Is the other player the DM's girlfriend or something? |
| FreeTheSlaves01-16-05, 08:50 PM | Either sack the DM or buy him the DMG for his birthday. |
| e-z0r01-16-05, 08:52 PM | Either sack the DM or buy him the DMG for his birthday. The only thing that should actually be bought for this guy is a knife. |
| psionichamster01-16-05, 08:56 PM | take 1 shovel. add one dm, preferably head first. combine strenuously, repeat. when finished, just... dig. dig. dig... problem solved! the hamster |
| Kaboth01-16-05, 09:52 PM | Well I hope these players are of opposite sexes cus one is clearly F'en the other one. Like I told someone else, find another group. Thats just to much crap to deal with. A long time ago had a situation where the DM's GF was playing and (this was another game system) we were like level 1 and low and behold this big bad magic weapon was found, and ONLY calling to her... go figure... we played about 2 more sessions and then just stopped... He wondered what his mistake was... |
| Aeromus01-17-05, 02:35 AM | Yeah by this guy a DMG, and introduce it to his face repeatedly, then show it to his "favorite" gamer. Blood stains on a DMG proves you're hardcore, not just psycho. |
| Thonili_Moonbringer01-17-05, 03:32 AM | Roll up a Dwarven Defender, find yourself a good suit of armor and a tower shield, then back into a corner and use Defensive Stance, total defense, and full cover with the shield. If you're still getting knocked around then call him on unethical dice placement. |
| Chaotica Maxima01-17-05, 04:26 AM | This sounds like a "wham, dig, dig" case. And if that doesnt work, build and patent the aformentioned Hammershooter(TM), and send me one too, just in case the DM goes from fairly ruleslawyery to a ******** ruleslawyer. |
| D_Martin01-19-05, 01:05 AM | You and this DM need to have a little chat. Tell him what you have told us and if he continues to do it, or kills your character right away that session or next. He obviously has something against you. It is not fair to you or any of the other players. I would say leave the group and find another with a decent DM. |
| UniversalSnip01-19-05, 01:32 AM | Kill him. I don't know where all this "talking" crap is coming from. |
| Sukugaru01-19-05, 02:26 AM | :OMG! Talking isn't going to solve anything with favouritism that obvious going on. There is really only one option here. Which is to shoot your DM. In the face. With a hammer. Or, the next time he does something messed up like that is to call him the 'most virulent, favouritist, and godawful DM to have ever fouled the earth with his ill presence, the likes of which will not be seen in a thousand years of a plague of bad DMs,' and leave to never again return. EDIT: I would suggest doing 'stupid actions', like not doing anything every round, or running away, or stabbing yourself with your own weapon and having to roll up a new character, and in the process sending a message to the DM that you are Not Happy. But if the DM is as godawful as I think he is, he's going to just go "Haha you were stupid again," and not get the point. |
| Bane01-19-05, 10:39 AM | If the DM is fairly intelligent, sarcasm works wonders. Claim to be psychic before the session, and predict that the DM is going to unfairly discriminate either against you, or for the other player, or both. Either he'll change his ways immediately, or he'll change his ways after one of these 'situations' comes up (followed of course by "Ha! I predicted this would happen! I should go buy lottery tickets or something.") If the DM isn't intelligent enough to get it from that, I refer you to the aforementioned wham, dig, dig, dig, and shooting in the face with a hammer. PS: If you go with the dice throwing method, I have something like 3 pounds of dice and a miniature working catapult you can use. |
| arimus0901-19-05, 09:11 PM | So what you are going through sucks...As a gm I thought you might like to know what is going through my head...Sometimes I play favorites if one of my pc's is low on hit points I'll have the npc attack a different pc, but it's never the same pc that is low and it's never the same pc that is getting attacked in his place. Furthermore the attack never changes...once attacked that pc is attacked period...I hide my dice so I can fudge things every now and then if need. I have heard of GM's that will deliberatly keep killing a pc off to let the player know that they are not welcome. In my opinion they just are not man enough to tell you. I would have to say that with the exception of killing your dm everyone's advice here has been to leave the group or talk to the dm. My suggestion would be talk to him privatly first. If things don't change then leave. .Ultimatley I feel that my job as a gm is 1st to make sure all of my players are engaged and having fun. I would not recomend being petty and continually committing pc suicide because if he is not ****** at you and this happens to be a gross oversight (doubtfull) he will get ******. Regardless, I would have to agree with everyone else...talk, leave or both...I wouldn't recomend the killing or maming...although stealing his dmg and highlighting sections talking about fairness might be fun... |
| silvertable8101-19-05, 11:23 PM | Kill the other guys character, then the GM kills yours, you both roll up new ones, then kill him again, eventually the other guy will run out of ideas. Ex: DM: The monster decide to attack YOU instead of (favorite PC), as it would hurt him. YOU: :: whacking him a few times with a large piece of wood :: Bad DM. Bad. I found me a sig, hope you don't mind. |
| Gilganarz_the_reporter01-19-05, 11:40 PM | Use words to solve this problem. Words like 'hammer','brass knuckles','fork' or best of all 'plagues of winged naked molerats' or 'sharks with laser beams attatched to their heads' |
| Kyaran01-19-05, 11:50 PM | Use words to solve this problem. Words like 'hammer','brass knuckles','fork' or best of all 'plagues of winged naked molerats' or 'sharks with laser beams attatched to their heads'Sorry. All we have are mutated, ill-tempered sea bass. |
| Ze_Mighty_Vegetable01-20-05, 12:04 PM | I found me a sig, hope you don't mind. not at all. It is only natural for sages of great wisdom (such as me) to be quoted by learned scholars in search of perfection (me). |
| eRaz0r01-20-05, 02:40 PM | Actually, if the DM continues to re-write events to his own script so ineptly, you should return the favour. You : I whip out my scimitars and attack ! DM : I warn you, if you attack, I'll kill you. You : "Ah! I hear the voice of fear in my head, warning me off. I ignore it and plunge the nasty double blades into the creature" DM : That's it - you're dead. You : "Fear of failure and death courses through me, but I soldier on".. I did 320 points of damage. DM : What?! No you didn't! You : yes - I did. DM : You just made that number up. You : Yes, I know. DM : Ok, a bolt of lightning streaks down and incinerates your character. You : I dodge it, remaining standing and unsinged. The bolt accidently strikes my enemy, and Other Player causing a 3249 points of damage and destroying them both. DM : What the **** are you talking about ? It does not. You : Yes it does. DM : NO it doesn't You : Yes it does. DM : NO IT DOES'NT. You : Yes, it does, nyah nyah. DM : <apoplexia> If you feel like letting him in on the joke : You : "You see, moron, that this is a game based on *rules* and a consensus of the players to abide by them. By constantly revising actions and rulings in favor of one character, you're undermining your own authority as an impartial judge. There's no way I'm going to abide by your rulings when you exhibit such irrationality. Thanks for the entertainment, but I'd have more fun hammering bamboo shoots under my fingernails than playing like this. Shape up or ship out." |
| Lincoln Hills01-20-05, 03:20 PM | Are the lot of you mad? Can you not see what a golden opportunity the DM is handing his group with this ludicrous re-writing of all plausibility? Lord! I wish a DM were so foolish as to have an invincible player while I was at the table! DM: You see a hideous tomb full of specters and wraiths... I mean, you see a plain old tomb. Nothing special about it. Very ordinary. Favored PC: I guess we should check it out... DM: Yeah, there's a magic sword in there I placed just for... I mean, if you wanna, sure, whatever. I don't care. Me: Here's the plan. Trang and Volcidivus and I will stay here and set up a base camp at the entrance. Golden Boy, you scout the first couple of rooms. DM: What? But all four of you are... Me: Hey, Golden Boy here is the hero. I'm just the sidekick. I'll start making supper. DM: Uh - but - Me: While you're at it, Golden Boy, would you mind clearing out the whole dungeon by yourself? I'll gladly give you half my share of magic items and my entire share of the non-magical loot. Golden Boy: But what makes you think I'll survive soloing a whole dungeon packed with level draining undead? Me: What indeed? Golden Boy: Huh? Me: Nothin'. Go get 'em. |
